Introduction: It's so interesting to see how my students see the test questions and why they do what they do. When they share their process with me, I can craft creative solutions to the problems they are having. I don't want to change how they think but help them to adjust it for this one test taking morning. It's especially rewarding when I can help someone who has typed him or herself a "bad test taker" so they can face the SAT or ACT with less fear and show some of what they do know on the test. I've also had the satisfaction of seeing my very high-performing students score the 800 they were aiming for.

We were pleased with the work Miriam did with our son. She helped him analyse the mistakes he'd made on the PSAT and helped him learn strategies to avoid making similar ones in the future. I'll let you know if he gets a scholarship !

How did you get started doing this type of work?
I always had a knack for standardized tests. Friends sought me out for advice for test taking, and I realized I understood these tests at a level that eludes a lot of people. I hate seeing students accept the label "bad test taker" and start out defeated. It's just one morning--prepare for it, know that you did your best and be free to move on.

It's worth it for students to prepare for standardized testing from the start--start with the PSAT. A good test score presents students and families with more options and instills the value of preparation..
