Holly is an amazingly talented makeup artist. Being one myself and having the pleasure of working along side her for shoots and weddings, it is always a great experience. Her professionalism with her work and clients is a rarity today. To be a part of it is a privilege. I would recommend Holly for all your photos, weddings, and other special events that require Extreme Beauty.

Katie was my makeup artist for my wedding this past March. I had no expectations going into hiring a makeup artist online. Katie was not only a delight to work with, my make-up looked fantastic and was flawless all day! Katie was always prompt and very responsive. She was on time the day of the wedding and is super sweet. I would highly recommend Katie to anyone in search of a makeup artist. She is very talented in what she does, which makes for a perfect combination.

If you are reading this review to decide weather or not to book Event Hair &Makeup you should stop reading now and go book them before someone else does! I truly could not have been more pleased with the service we received. Tanya was the first vender to respond to my request for on location hair and make up quotes. Her rates were on the low end for what we were asking for. (This scared me a bit because you often get what you pay for.) She promptly returned my call when I decided to try out her services. When discussing details for a trail hair and makeup session, I discovered she was nearly 2 hours away from my home and yet she did not hesitate to accommodate us. She called to confirm time and location the day before the trail session and arrived on schedule. She was prepared and professional as she listened to what "Becca" (the bride) was envisioning for her look. We quickly became confident in her skills. Becca LOVED the look Tanya created and told me later she felt beautiful. Even after the long drive and time she had already spent on Becca, Tanya agreed to also give me a hair cut to update my look. The day before the wedding again, Tanya called to confirm the time and location. On the day of the wedding when we arrived at the venue Tanya and her assistant Nellie were already there and set up ready to start. They both worked for hours on hair for the bride, maid of honor, bridesmaid, mother of the bride, and mother of the groom. Also, without any complaint they did hair for the brides sister-in-law as a least minute add on. They did undos, long curls, braids, half up half down and even added hair acsessories. We were ALL very pleased with the results! Tanya did all the makeup and her skills are amazing. I need to mention here that the bride is a redhead with very pale skin tone and one of the bridesmaids was Asian with carmel skin tone, and I have old lady skin. Tanya was able to flawlessly match and blend the right foundation to each of our very different skin tones and the results looked so natural. As a make up artist Tanya treated each face as an individual canvas and give us fresh glamour without caking on the makeup. We again were ALL beyond pleased with the results. If the skills, great price and professionalism that Event hair and Makeup team brings to an event is not enough, Tanya's personality was always light and fun and had a way of making us relax, enjoy and forget about the stress of the wedding ceremony. In my opinion, Event Hair and Makeup demonstrated professionalism and outstanding skills . Tanya is an amazing makeup artist and Tanya and Nellie are both gifted in achieving a wide range of hair styles. I will not hesitate to book them again for our next event. I feel confident in recommending them.

Esha and her team made me feel beautiful and super glam on my wedding day. They patiently curled a million of my 26 inch extensions and made me look amazing. My ladies were all super happy with the way their hair and makeup turned out. I loved that she did my makeup the way I like and didn't try to give me a natural look like a lot of makeup artists do! I got compliments all night!

About

Siobhan Beckett is a trained actress, singer, makeup artist and professional zombie. Siobhan was born and raised just outside of Baltimore in Towson, Maryland. Growing up in the land of pleasant living, Siobhan was exposed to the creative weirdness of Baltimore legends, such as Edgar Allen Poe, John Waters and Divine at a dangerously early age. Siobhan is unfortunately unable to confirm any familial relation to the late, great absurdist playwright, Samuel Beckett at this time. However, she is still diligently researching the possibility. Siobhan attended Towson University for her Bachelor's degree in Acting. While at Towson, Siobhan discovered her love for haunted houses, and she started honing her craft for makeup artistry. With a passion for horror and macabre, she became particularly interested in gore and special effects work. She also became very interested in the art of teaching, and she acted as a teacher's aid for several makeup and performance classes. Siobhan has been spotted performing in shows at Artscape, Baltimore Theater Project, Load of Fun Theatre and Spotlighters Theatre. She has been found singing at the Ottobar, Cyclops Art Gallery, the LoFT, Liam Flynn's Ale House, Swallow at the Hollow, on the Ocean City Boardwalk and occasionally dressed as a Zombie Janis Joplin. Siobhan is a trained scare actress and professional hauntertainer. She has been known to haunt Field of Screams Maryland, the Timonium SCAREgrounds and currently can be found scaring at Bennett's Curse Haunted Attractions. Siobhan works as a standardized patient and moulage effects artist for shock trauma medical training with the University of Maryland Medical Center. She has previously worked with Baltimore Annex Theatre, Factory Edge Theatre Works, Glass Mind Theatre company, Iron Crow Theatre company and the Baltimore Playwrights Festival as both a performer and makeup artist. Siobhan is available for theatrical productions, films, parties, beauty makeup, personal consultations, special events, musical performances, photo shoots, head shots, face painting, body painting, demonstrations, and more! Siobhan specializes in theatrical horror, gore effects, blood and fantasy work.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How do you choose the right makeup artist for your wedding?

A wedding makeup artist can ensure a flawless look on your big day. Finding the perfect person isn’t all about price, though. Here are tips for choosing the right makeup artist for your wedding:

  • Research before reaching out. Wedding makeup artists should have an online presence with portfolios of their work. Find someone with an aesthetic you love.
  • Read reviews. You want a wedding makeup artist who’ll be on time, do beautiful work, and add a positive vibe to your day. Pay attention if previous clients report bad experiences with a makeup artist.
  • Consider skin tones. If your bridal party has a range of skin tones, make sure your wedding makeup artist and assistants are experienced and talented working with everyone.
  • Is your top pick available on your date? If so, put down a deposit to secure their services.
  • Confirm rates and payment. Clearly discuss prices and payment plans, and sign a detailed contract so there are no surprises on your wedding day.

Do I need a makeup artist for my wedding?

There are no rules around your wedding day, and that means it’s your choice whether to have a wedding makeup artist. If you’re on the fence about hiring a wedding makeup artist, consider the pros and cons. Some women decide against a wedding makeup artist to save money. The national average cost for a wedding makeup artist is $70-$100, which is an expense some women prefer to do without. Other women just don’t love wearing makeup. Some brides have friends or family members who are talented makeup artists willing to provide their services. If you choose not to have a wedding makeup artist, be sure to do at least two trial runs of your makeup look well before the wedding day to avoid any morning-of panic.

On the other hand, a wedding makeup artist can make the bride feel pampered and confident, giving her a flawless, fabulous look for the ceremony and reception and in wedding photos. For brides who are uncomfortable with heavy makeup, many wedding makeup artists usually excel at the natural look. Many brides consider wedding makeup part of the ritual and tradition of the ceremony, a shared experience with the entire bridal party. Ultimately your choice of whether to hire a wedding makeup artist should be based on what will make you feel most confident and happy.

How much should you tip a wedding makeup artist?

Wedding makeup artists ensure you and your bridal party are looking your best bright and early on your wedding day. Tipping a wedding makeup artist for their hard work is standard practice, and is also greatly appreciated. A tip of 15 percent to 20 percent of the total bill is appropriate. You may consider tipping extra if the makeup artist or someone on their team went above and beyond — for example, squeezing in Aunt Martha at the last second or redoing a flower girl’s hair free of charge after she dunked it in the fountain.

A gratuity is a reflection of a job well done, so if the wedding makeup artist was late, did a shoddy job or didn’t provide all the services you negotiated, you are not required to tip. Talk with your wedding makeup artist prior to the event to ask how they prefer payment and gratuity to be handled. Can you pay by credit card the day of the event and include a tip then? Do you need to pay in cash the day of the event? Find out ahead of time how to manage payment for services so you can be prepared with cash or credit cards as needed. Even better, delegate the task of payment to someone in your bridal party so you can just enjoy your day.

How much do wedding makeup artists cost?

A wedding means love, celebration and tons of wedding photos. Professional wedding makeup artists have you looking your best on your big day and forever after in your wedding photos. The national average cost for a wedding makeup artist is $70-$100, although this price can increase based on your location, the extent of the makeup services and the reputation of the makeup artist. Most wedding makeup artists offer discounts to brides who book group services for their maids, mothers and flower girls at the same time. Wedding makeup artists who also do wedding hair usually offer package rates for hair and makeup combos. Here are some examples of average wedding makeup pricing:

  • Bridal makeup: $85-$125. Pricing often includes full face, eyes, lips, brows and false eyelashes. Airbrush makeup may be an additional $20 or more.
  • Bridal hair and makeup: $150-$200.
  • Bridesmaid and bridal party makeup: $50-$100 per person.
  • Bridesmaid hair and makeup: $100-$150.
  • Flower girl makeup: $25-$35.
  • Trial sessions: $60-$120, depending on the makeup artist. Some charge their full rate and others charge a partial rate for trial makeup services.
  • Hourly rates to stay on and keep makeup touched up throughout reception: $35-$75 per hour.
  • Travel fees: 50 cents to $1 per additional mile beyond a set radius — such as 50 miles.
