Hey Thumbtack folks! My name is Andrew, and I have been teaching and performing for over 15 years! I am currently offering guitar, piano, trombone, and songwriting lessons in addition to production work for others virtually and in/around the Philadelphia area. I would love to collab with you, so let’s hop on a phone call to talk about your musical goals and how we can get there!
I pride myself on giving my students agency in choosing their material and guiding their learning to allow them creative control while providing a disciplined, structured approach to achieving growth on your instrument.
As an artist/songwriter/producer, I am the front man for award-winning rock reggae band, FeelFree, which won the best reggae album at Washington DC’s Wammy Awards and tours the mid-Atlantic regularly. I have written and co-produced three albums with FeelFree garnering millions of streams in addition to writing and producing a solo project under the name Andrew Wanders.
When I’m not songwriting, teaching or performing, I enjoy cooking, challenging others to funny-face competitions and spending time with my wife, daughter, dog and cat in Philly.

Andrew is the best!! We can’t believe how lucky we were finding him in Thumbtack. His passion for music, his patience and care with my kid, and his commitment to learn music in a fun and individual way is clear and so heartwarming. I know that my kid is on the way to have a mean for self expression that he will carry with him his whole life. ❤️

Andrew is the best piano teacher we've had after going through quite a few! He understands what it takes to light a fire of interest in my kids, making it fun and exciting. My kids look forward to their sessions with him and have naturally found the time to practice without it feeling like a chore. Highly highly recommend Andrew!

Andrew is a dedicated teacher with an amazing and diverse background. He provided a classical foundation for my son while allowing him to explore other music he picked. My son is learning to play the piano at 17 (wow!) thanks to Andrew!

Andrew is a great piano instructor for young kids - he was very patient and enthusiastic with our 7 year old daughter who was learning piano over Zoom! He was encouraging and kept her motivated even when her attention was wavering.

FAQs
What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
The quoted price you see on Thumbtack is per lesson, but I offer discounted packages if purchasing a month of lessons or three months of lessons!
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
My process begins with establishing an open avenue of communication with all my students! That ensures that I can gauge their musical interests, their past musical experiences, what their musical goals are, and what type of music they hope to be creating/playing!
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I earned my Bachelor's degree in Music from Wesleyan University in Connecticut, I studied under renowned jazz musicians Jay Hoggard and Anthony Braxton there. Upon graduating, I was hired as a musician-in-resident at a prestigious South African boarding school Lebone II - College of the Royal Bafokeng where I taught students a songwriting and creative writing course entitled "In My Voice". Upon completing my residency in South Africa, I returned to the Washington DC area to tour with my band FeelFree. When not touring, I was the symphonic and jazz band leader at a K-8th grade school in Alexandria, Virginia called Alexandria Country Day School where I taught brass, woodwind, piano, and string instruments to 4-8th graders and lead the K-3rd grade choir. I have extensive experience teaching students of all ages guitar, piano, and brass instruments.
