Jack was absolutely wonderful with out pets. We have 4 of them, one of which is a 13 year old standard poodle who suffers from emotional detachment disorder every time we leave him, even for a day. He loved Jack, and our Yorkie could not wait to see him everyday! I felt so confident and comfortable for the first time ever leaving our pets with a pet sitter. We also have 2 cats which were so much calmer when we returned than normal. We have already hired Jack for 2 more vacations and have recommended him to a friend as well. We can not thank him enough!

I am so glad that I found Sara. She is my new go-to dog sitter! I took my dog over to her home and she was immediately at ease, running around in the fenced back yard. Sara watched my dog for three days and did great. Sara was able to give her space separated from her other dogs, which I had requested because my dog is sometimes skittish. When I picked my dog up, she was calm and happy, which is not usually the case (usually seems freaked out when I go away). I think Sara really put her at ease. I look forward to having Sara dog sit for me again!

Debbie took great care of my pet cat (and house!) when I went away for a 5 day vacation in August, and I would absolutely use her again and again in the future. The things about Debbie and her services that impressed me the most: she was very reliable, very competent, very trustworthy, and very flexible with her scheduling to suit my needs. Now what more can a pet owner ask for in a pet sitter?! She is like “the perfect” pet sitter in each of those categories. I will say that because I had never needed a pet sitter before, I was reluctant to give a “stranger” a key to my house and to trust them to take care of my cat and to stay in my house while I was in another state, but after meeting with Debbie for a while I just knew she would treat my pet and my home with the finest of care and she did just that. I can say without a doubt that knowing Debbie was “in charge” of my cat (and even my house in the unlikely event a pipe broke or something while I was away…an added bonus!) truly allowed me to enjoy my vacation so much more; I honestly felt as if a family member or close friend was taking care of things and that was priceless. Debbie did an A+ job and I am so happy to now have a great pet sitter when I need one!

Peggy was absolutely amazing with my teacup Yorkie Rocky! She went beyond expectations! She watched Rocky multiple times and even kept him over night at her house for a few days. She always made sure that Rocky was happy and that he had plenty of time to play and run around. Took him on long walks, bought him treats and even got him some new toys! I could tell that my dog adored her and he was always so excited to see her! I would highly recommend her to anyone who is looking for a pet sitter! Kim

Liz was a great help when I needed to find a cat sitter on short notice during a holiday week. She has a lot of experience taking care of pets so she knows exactly what questions to ask. She even sent me pictures of my cat, Melanie, to put my mind at ease. I highly recommend Liz for any pet sitting needs.

I used Jordan as my pet sitter while i vacationed at the beach for a week and she did a wonderful job. It seemed like my little Papillon was so happy there with her and got a ton of attention and got spoiled, which i think was needed considering also a new baby at home which my dog isn't quite used to yet. i would certainly use Jordan again in the future and would recommend her to others as well.

I love the fact that you can see in Michele's face that she loves animals. She treats them as f they were her own and is very loving and kind to them. My little chichi cries when I go to bed without her. Michele said it would be fine with her if my little girl slept with her and would actually like it. I've had many pet sitters but she by far is the best ever and I highly recommend her. My dogs love her too and are happy and healthy when I pick them up.

Kayla is awesome! We enrolled our two and a half month old Doberman Pinscher puppy in training classes learning how to do basic comands. She is very flexible with our schedule and we meet at a local park to do our training. Kayla connected with our puppy immediately. After our first class she was successful in teaching our dog the basic sit and stay. She really focuses on us the owners how to teach our puppy the correct way to train our dog. We have had a total of four classes and we have been successful in teaching our dog sit, stay, lay, come, paw, heel, long leash training and walk wonderfully on a leash! Since we meet at a local park there are lots of distractions like people, children, other dogs and even a horse and she was able to keep his attention and keep him focused on the tasks at hand. I would recommend her to anyone! I wish I knew about her sooner for my other pups!

Lisa is just so wonderful with my little pup! I have used a few different dog sitters, and Lisa is by far the most attentive and loving with my dog. Lola comes home happy and calm, so I know she is getting the attention and care I want for her while I am gone. Lisa is the best.

Don't look any further! Peggy is just brilliant! Not only a great pet sitter but a lovely person. I have had many pet sitters in the past and I didn't know this kind of service was possible, she provides daily updates and cute pictures while we are away, she buys Rosita (a tiny chichi) yummy treats and gives her tons of love. She is so responsible, sweet, experienced (she has a big bunch of rescue pets herself) and caring that my dog misses her and of course she stops by once in a while to pet her and let her know she is still around. We feel very lucky to have her in our lives! :-)

You can completely feel the love she has for animals and the care that she takes to make you comfortable while away is second to none! Awesome job! David

My daughter and I both ride at Clearview Stables. Teresa Adams is a caring trainer that brings out the best in both horse and rider. She has a gift for understanding the individual horse's personality and works with you on the best training plan. For those who do not own a horse, Clearview has wonderful lesson horses and ponies for every level and all ages. Bonus: the indoor ring enables riding in all types of weather.

I've used these services for a number of years and all my dogs loved having the sitter come over to my house to spend some time with them while we were away. I never had to worry about my dogs while I was away and trusted the sitter to come into my home. I'd recommend Mr. Biscuits to come and take care of your dog.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to hire a house sitter?

House-sitting can be a lifesaver when you’re leaving town for any length of time. Whether you work remotely, you’re taking a much-needed vacation, or you just want to road-trip for a few days, it’s wise to have a pro keep an eye on your house and pets while you’re gone. Your home is more likely to stay safe and you won’t have to wrangle the kitty into a kennel to travel with you. The national average pet-sitting price ranges between $20 and $30. Pet-sitting and house-sitting costs will vary based on where you live in the country and regional labor rates. Another factor in cost is how long you want the house-sitter to stay. Some people prefer to have the house-sitter stay the night at their house, perhaps to care for an elderly pet or simply to keep a watchful eye on the home at all times. Overnight stays will cost more, ranging anywhere from $50 to $100, depending on services provided. For day visits, house-sitting and pet-sitting prices will increase incrementally the longer the visit and the more service you want performed. For example, a quick 10-minute visit to feed and walk the pet and bring in the mail could be $12.50, a 25-minute visit could be $18, a 40-minute visit $25, and a 50-minute visit $32. How much should you pay for a pet sitter?

Pet sitting provides your precious pet with in-home care. A pet-sitter can make a brief visit during the day to provide snacks, playtime or affection, or stay at your house for one or more nights to tend to your pet. Prices for pet-sitting will vary based on length of the visit. Nationally, pet sitting prices range from $20 to $30, although prices run higher for your sitter to stay the night. Prices will also be affected by where you live in the country. Here are some examples of average pet-sitting prices based on length of time and region:

  • 30-minute visit: $17 in a small Texas town.
  • 30-minute visit: $25 in Southern California.
    • 45-minute visit: $28.
    • 60-minute visit: $32.
  • Overnight stay (10 hours): $50 in Texas.
  • Overnight stay (10 hours): $85 in Southern California.
    • 12 hours: $100.
    • 24 hours: $200. This is a good option for a sick, elderly or brand-new pet that needs constant supervision.
