I don't usually write online reviews but in this case I feel compelled. I got myself into debt with medical bills, moving, and job loss. My rent, bills, and interest rates were getting higher every year. So was my anxiety over my worsening financial situation. I couldn't remember the last time I paid more than the minimum on any of my four credit cards. I was only in my early 30s and I was $60,000 in debt. The business I'd been building, the hopes and dreams I had for my future, I was convinced it was all slipping away from me. My growing debt and my fear of bankruptcy was making me feel more helpless, hopeless, and depressed than I'd even been in my life. And in the moments after my free consult with Mr. Perloff, all of those feelings started to go away. From our very first meeting I began to feel as though a huge weight was being lifted from my shoulders. He explained to me why bankruptcy wasn’t such a scary thing. That you can rebuild your credit score within a few years. We talked about how it could give me a fresh start, a chance to do things the right way this time. I decided to do it and he laid out the steps of my case, what documents were needed and how to fill out information. No confusing legal jargon, either. He broke down complex legal documents for me by explaining them in ways I could understand. When I sent an email or made a call, I didn’t have to wait a week for a response. He always got back to me that day or the next. He was respectful of my time and very patient with his. The whole process was painless, fast, and affordable. And it came at a time when I needed these things the most. I absolutely recommend Mr. Perloff to anyone looking to take the leap and straighten out their finances!

John represented us in a case. His advice was good and in the end saved us time, money and aggravation. He responded quickly with a fair price. We will use him again if we need an attorney.

My son received a TRO from his ex-girlfriend. She claimed a lot of things he did not do. At first, we seek another top notch criminal defense lawyer recommended by many people, and the other lawyer said for sure we will loss the case. The other lawyer said don’t waste your money. However, my son is innocent against all the allegations made by his ex. We cannot let her get away with this. We must fight the case, even though we are dead broke. We must not let her ruin our son’s reputation and his future. So, we hired Mr. Allison to defend our son. Right away during the initial consultation, we liked him. He was very approachable, knowledgeable, and non-judge mental. We did not feel intimidated which is important. It was very easy to open up and talk about the details of the case. He took his time analyzing the case from all angels, and said the other party did did not have a case. He was right. We spent about nine hours in court, and we won the case. We highly recommend Mr. Albert Allison for anyone needing his service. My family had problems paying everything up front, and he worked with us. His price was also very reasonable. He also thought of ways to save us money, which said a lot about his character, integrity and values. We hope this review has been helpful.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a personal injury lawyer?

A personal injury lawyer fights on your behalf if you’ve been injured physically, psychologically, economically or in reputation. This injury may be the result of neglect or malicious intent of another person, or it could be at the hands of a business, government or other entity. Personal injury lawyers specialize in tort law, which is the law of civil wrongs like car accidents, company wrongdoing, unlawful imprisonment and more.

To become qualified to be a personal injury lawyer in the United States, a person must earn a bachelor’s degree, followed by a Doctor of Jurisprudence degree from a law school. Most states then require the person to pass the bar exam to become licensed to practice law. Unlike many attorneys who require a retainer, personal injury lawyers often work on contingency fees. This means that in lieu of payment upfront, they receive an agreed-upon percentage of the settlement in case of a win.

What should you look for in a personal injury lawyer?

A personal injury lawyer will advocate for your legal rights if you’ve been hurt in an accident at work or in daily life, have suffered from medical malpractice, or are struggling to have your insurance carrier cover your needs. It may be helpful to talk with two or three lawyers before selecting one. When looking for a personal injury lawyer, research their reviews and make sure former clients have had good experiences with them. Next, make sure the personal injury lawyer has experience and proven success winning cases similar to yours. Confirm that the lawyer is licensed to provide services in your state. When you find a qualified personal injury lawyer with whom you want to work, freely discuss payment and fees before any work begins. Most lawyers offer a free consultation to learn what your case is about and explain their rates. Personal injury attorneys typically receive a percentage of your settlement (called a contingency fee), so they are paid after the trial or case is complete. Keep in mind that some attorneys have fees that you must pay even if you don’t win your trial. It’s important to understand these details before work begins so you don’t have any unhappy surprises later. Lastly, it’s wise to choose a personal injury lawyer that you have confidence in and with whom you can communicate openly and honestly.
