Introduction: What I seem to be good at is inspiring people--that is, communicating to them the energy and enthusiasm that they need to address their internal problems. I like to think that that comes from the different spiritual influences I've absorbed. When I combine that with specific therapeutic techniques like CBT, etc. to someone's specific problems, thing seem to work out with good results. I have the skill any trained counselor would have for handling common problems like anxiety, depression, stress, addictions, communication issues, getting over losses, motivation for losing weight, etcetera... but what runs through it all is a profound conviction based on my own experience that everyone, without exception, can grow and unfold into MUCH greater levels of happiness and contentment, based on principles apply to everyone, believer or not. Aside from regular counseling methods, fine-tuning a person's motivation and intentions, and recommending and teaching the right meditation practice for them, may be some of the more unusual things I like to do. Also dreamwork--about the most ignored means we all have to access higher reality and understand better choices we might make. I can relate to wanting to know if a counselor is a "good fit" before actually paying full rate for a session... but also don't want to offer an entire hour for free. My $30 initial session is a good compromise. After that, either $90, or $60 for financial hardship. Not too many review from Thumbtack yet... for testimonials see my website, (davidlowmsphd.com), plus thervo.com and lessons.com.

Working with David was extremely beneficial for overcoming my anxiety and panic disorders. He helped me defeat my crippling emetophobia, something that took over my life and made me live in fear. His thorough cognitive and behavioral exercises have eliminated my anxiety, as well as encouraged and led me to live a healthier, happier life. I 100% recommend David.

David’s dream circles have helped me tremendously with opening up my understanding of my own dream symbology. I’ve been able to dive deeper into my dream life and have been able expand my awareness of possibilities with dreaming. I’ve been able to utilize dreams to provide answers to questions that are both mundane and of a deeper nature. Even though I don’t always get the clearest understanding the journaling process has kept me engaged and intrigued. David provides a safe space to explore these realms and offers an abundance of knowledge around the world of dreaming.

I have taken different classes taught by Dr. David Low and have learned so much from him. My favorite classes were his dreamwork classes and his meditation class! In my opinion, Dr. Low is excellent because his knowledge of the areas is top-notch. More importantly, Dr. Low is such a fantastic teacher because he is so down to earth and approachable. and his lectures are so enthralling and easy to understand. He is passionate about what he teaches and truly cares about his students.

Dave is a true educator and believer. I have attended many of Dave’s Abington adult school night courses and at the commencement of each class I was looking forward to his next offered course selection. “Buddhist Philosophy and Ethics” through “Methods of Meditation” ( thanks to his knowledge and relaxed instructional ways) taught me the power of holding it together through this COVID-19 year. Thank you Dave. I am looking forward to attending the long-awaited course on “Dreams”. PS “Universal Spiritual Studies Philosophy and Practice”, by Dave, is a must read - for me it is the link that ties my spiritual path with my journey.

  • What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

I'm actually semi-retired and can afford to charge less than most therapists do--$90/hour. There’s also a $30 discount off the first session… that’s $105 for a 1.5 hour “intake” first session. For financial hardship I have a sliding scale ($80, $70) down to as little as $60/hour if necessary. (Honor system on that! If we develop a working relationship, we’ll re-evaluate every other month. At that time, if your situation improves, you’d start paying the normal rate.)

  • What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

A first session should be both informal, so we can both be at ease and I can get to know the person, but also formal, because we want to get things done! I need to evaluate, get basic information and so on, but at the end of the session the client should also have a real experience of initial progress. We don’t have to do one, but almost anyone can use a meditation/relaxation method that fits their disposition, and anyone appreciates attention given to their most immediate practical issue, even if it doesn’t relate to their longer-term therapeutic goals. I always try to do or at least suggest those things.

  • What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

Everything I’ve learned and been through makes me who I am: a BS degree with lots of Anthropology, a MS in Community Counseling, a PhD in Religious Studies with a focus on psychology of religion, ten years of college teaching experience, eiight years of mostly-substance-abuse counseling experience (usually also involving anxiety, depression, communication issues, etc.), 3 years of private practice involving general issues (anxiety, etc.) and dreamwork, AND 30 years of tracking dreams and occasional powerful contact with therapists and spiritual masters of different stripes. Within that 30 years, 6 were "full-time" spiritual seeking. involving living in communities and pilgrimages abroad. Plus I've done about 7 years of writing, mostly years ago (technical writer), more recently (fiction projects that went nowhere) and most recently (spirituality textbook that I sometimes use with clients). Finally I was even a circus performer (juggler, mostly) for a couple of years right out of college in the late 1970s.
