We hired Marty for installing backsplash tiles in our kitchen. I cant say enough good things about Marty, he is a wonderful worker. He did such a great job with the backsplash. He is very neat and meticulous with his work. He would not stop until he completes the work he planned for that day. We have been so happy, that we have hired him to do more work like replacing the bathroom vanity, fireplace surround install, ceiling fans, Garage door install. He can do everything you ask him to do. He charges very reasonably for his service as well. We are so happy we found him on thumbtack.

I was in desperate need of a move in/move out cleaning service for my 3 bedroom, 2.5 bath townhouse. I came upon Great Scot Cleaning Systems and they had everything I was looking for in their services. Plus, I felt reassured in seeing this organization was hired many times on thumbtack as well as 30+ years in the business. Marion was extremely kind, upfront, and honest throughout the entire experience. He went over what services the move in/move out package included and asked if I had any questions or areas to focus on. I also need to include that Marion was extremely patient and understanding, as I needed to reschedule my appointment twice, due to my landlord wanting to pant and install new carpet. He even adjusted the price because of this. His team took great care of my apartment: the cabinets in the kitchen looked brand new, the tiles were sparkly, and the bathrooms looked pristine!! There was even use of a defogger, a piece of equipment used to spray a lavender sent throughout the house as a way to kill bacteria. It looked like I hadn't lived there for almost 3 years! Upon meeting Marion, he was sweet as can be and I enjoyed our conversation. He informed me that if I was not satisfied, he would be more than happy to come back and fix it. Talk about true hospitality!! When my landlord and I completed the walkthrough, he was extremely pleased with the results! I could go on and on about Marion and his team of experts, but instead see for yourself! Hire Great Scot Cleaning Services and you will not be disappointed!! -Kristen Aitkens

Philly Pretzel Factory engaged Moore Cleaning Solutions to clean and maintain three of our stores in Gilbertsville, Phoenixville, and Quakertown. MCS was extremely professional with their approach and execution of their duties cleaning our ovens, aluminum freezers, stainless steel countertops, tables, ceramic tile floors and grout, stripping and finishing our VCT tile floors. Moore Cleaning Solutions price was competitive and their results are excellent. In addition to cleaning, MCS also trained our team on managing the cleaning maintenance of our stores as well as proving us with thought leadership processes to help us maintain a consistently clean appearance. We were very pleased with MCS work and enjoy working with the company.

Aaron cleaned my kitchen tile. Aaron was very responsive when I posted a request to Thumbtack, and asked me to call him to talk through what I need to be done and to set up a time to do the work. We were able to set up some time for the following week, which I was pleased about since several other service providers either did not call me back or never provided an estimate. Aaron called me the day before to confirm that he was coming and the time. Aaron was courteous and professional, and did a great job cleaning my floors. The previous owners of my house did not leave the floors in great shape, and they were in need of a thorough cleaning. Aaron spent several hours on them and was able to get the grout and tiles cleaner than I thought was possible. I am very happy with them and would not hesitate to reach out to Aaron for other floor care/cleaning needs.

Kevin installed two bathroom light fixtures and one was particularly tricky to install. He did amazing job and I couldn’t be happier. I also had Kevin look at some upcoming project ideas: refinishing kitchen cabinets and putting in backsplash tile. His quotes are reasonable and fair. He really knows his stuff. I’m looking forward to having Kevin do more work for me in the future.

We had several things that needed to be done in our house. These included a kitchen counter and backsplash, work in bathrooms, painting, refinishing of badly-worn steps, etc. Tom handled it all. He advised us when we had questions and allowed us to stay within our budget while doing work that looked out of our budget. Tom paid attention to details and is someone who takes pride in what he does. We have a few more things we are thinking of having done and will contact Tom first. We highly recommend him. Feel confident that when you hire Tom your work will be done to your satisfaction.

We have nothing but good things to say about our experience with Charles Doyle. We hired him to install pergo flooring in our kitchen and to remove old ceramic tile from our foyer. Charles was a pleasure to work with. He was courteous and professional, and addressed all our questions and concerns. Charles was prompt in providing an estimate and his price was very reasonable! Most importantly, his work was excellent and he left our house spic and span. We would not hesitate for a second in referring Charles to our family and friends.

From my initial call to Grout Lines Plus, I knew that I would be taken care of. Nicki was very informative and was ale to get Turk here quickly for an estimate. After looking at two companies, I chose Grout Lines Plus because they listened and provided me with a greater level of confidence to get the job done. On the day Turk arrived for the job, he was courteous and prepared to get started immediately. He did an amazing job and our shower looks like new again! I would highly recommend this company - they do great quality work at the right price.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How can I get my grout clean?

Dirt, mildew and grime can make your grout lines look downright tragic. If you have the ability, DIY tile and grout cleaning is definitely doable. Your main obstacles are time, project size, availability of the right materials and effort. Your first step in tile and grout cleaning is making sure the surface area is cleaned of basic dirt and buildup and wiped down. Be sure not to use a bleach-based cleaning agent, which could react dangerously with the vinegar used in later steps.

Depending on the delicacy of your tile and grout, it may be wise to start with water and friction before proceeding to a cleaning solution. In the shower you can spray the area while brushing gently, or use a spray bottle filled with warm water on countertops or floors. If water won’t do the trick, try a solution of equal parts warm water and white vinegar, and repeat the gentle brushing motion. This combination should begin to lift dirt and grime from the grout. For additional tile and grout cleaning power, baking soda applied directly to grout lines and sprayed with your water vinegar solution can help suds off sticky grime. If your DIY cleaning solutions aren’t doing the trick, store-bought sprays and pastes may have more cleansing power. Rinse thoroughly after cleaning and enjoy your sparkling clean grout.

Tile and grout cleaning supplies include:

  • Old standard or electric toothbrush
  • Stiff bristle brush
  • Spray bottle
  • White vinegar
  • Commercial grout cleaner

How much does it cost to clean tile and grout?

The national average cost for tile and grout cleaning ranges from $190 to $250. Pros may charge a flat fee or by the square foot. Rates can vary depending on the type of tile and grout you have (more delicate tiles may mean specialized products or careful handwashing), how dirty your tile and grout are, and what part of the country you are in (regional labor rates and costs to do business affect costs). For example, one floor cleaning company charges 75 cents per square foot for tile and grout cleaning for projects that permit cleaning by machine. Another company may charge $30-$50 per hour for hand-cleaning of tiles. Companies often charge a minimum fee for services to ensure their business expenses are met when they accept a job, no matter how small. In addition, a tile and flooring cleaning professional may charge added fees, such as $25 or more, to move heavy furniture or appliances.

How do professionals clean tile and grout?

If you need tile and grout cleaning and don’t have the time or mobility for scrubbing your entire house on your hands and knees, it’s time to turn to the pros. Tile and grout cleaning professionals have industrial-grade machines designed for the sole task of cleaning the porous materials of grout and tile. Typically, a cleaning pro will come out to assess the job and provide you with a quote. Often they charge per square foot (for example, 75 cents per square foot), with higher prices or an hourly rate for areas that will need hand cleaning. The national average cost for tile and grout cleaning ranges from $190 to $250. Once onsite, the pros thoroughly clean the area by wiping or sweeping down and then vacuuming up any dry dirt. Next a chemical tile cleaner is sprayed over the surface, causing dirt to loosen and adhere to the spray; the industry term for this is “suspension.” The pros then clean the floor with professional-strength machines, which often use a combination of steam, brushes and vacuum to loosen, agitate and lift entrenched dirt. Your floor is then rinsed, removing all the spray. Usually a small room can be cleaned in under an hour. Applying a sealant afterward is recommend and will also affect cost.
