Introduction: I am a warm, challenging and caring teacher with over 30 years experience in humanities higher education. Over the last fifteen years, I have become a specialist in one-on-one writing tutoring and instruction. I received the Outstanding Teaching Award for both Penn State University English Department and College of the Liberal Arts in 2005 and 2006. At present, I am an independent contractor for writing services. Below are some of my credentials. o Pennsylvania Certified English Instruction—taught Advanced Placement English in academically rigorous high school for eight years o Teaching experience in Special Needs, from gifted to autism o 18 years at Penn State University, Department of English o Bucknell University-BA in English Education/ Magna Cum Laude, Phi Beta Kappa, Honors in English o Bucknell - MA English/Summa Cum laude o Penn State University, Ph.D in English - Sparks Dissertation Fellowship o Presently employed by ETS/College Board to score Writing SAT 1 and AP English exams. I offer the following services for middle school-college and adult students: Middle school students: one-on one writing tutoring in the following genres: personal, narrative, expository, imaginative and descriptive. I specialize in helping middle school students develop the critical writing and reading skills necessary to transition to higher-order thinking for high school writing. PSSA rubrics used. High school students: one-on one tutoring for college-prep, Honors, AP and IB English and humanities course writing assignments. AP and SAT writing rubrics and vocabulary work. Also, I tutor in SAT II English. I specialize in helping high school students transition into more critical and sophisticated readers and writers and in preparing high school students for college level and rhetorical writing. Assistance provided to create excellent and appropriate college application essays. College students: one-on one tutoring for all composition, literature and humanities’ writing assignments. Help with resumes and GRE /LSAT vocabulary training. Professional adults: Preparation for the Writing and Vocabulary Sections of the GRE; timed writing-preparation for other professional entrance exams; experience with teaching business writing and with facilitating more fluent and professional business communication.
