Inset Kitchen Cabinets Nightmare We hired Ebenezer to assemble 6 inset base cabinets for our kitchen. I offered a set amount of money for completing each cabinet, including installing the cabinet knobs and pulls. Implicit in that offer is that the cabinets would have to be assembled correctly and not damaged. I asked him to complete one cabinet at a time, in order of increasing challenge so that I could make sure he had the ability to do it while protecting the $1000+ base cabinets. He constructed the first box (there were no drawers or doors required), and then he constructed another box well. In hindsight, these trial tasks did not include installing drawers, drawer slides, or drawer fronts which turned out to be the biggest problem. After the trial, I thought he probably knew what he was doing so I gave him some space to do his job. That was a big mistake. Ebenezer and his colleague drilled through a cabinet door, ruining it; damaged two drawer fronts; drizzled wood glue all over the new hardwood kitchen floor; and installed two entire base cabinets of drawers incorrectly, damaging them. He also didn’t stick to the order of assembling the cabinets so I could check he was assembling them correctly, which led us to the end of the day result of multiple damaged cabinets and thousands of dollars lost. To add insult to injury, Ebenezer and his colleague used my husband’s treasured woodworking project (a transom window) as scrap wood during the project, destroying that project as well. He made a move like he was going to start tearing apart the poorly-assembled base cabinets. I said that if he tried that, I would call the police. He stormed out saying that I was a terrible person and that God would make me pay. In hindsight, after reading reviews more closely here, I see some patterns that showed up in our experience with him. (1) The first is not respecting agreements made before work starts and demanding more money than the original agreement stated after a task is completed or not completing a task and demanding the money anyway. I see that he also does moving work and this behavior does seem more prevalent in the moving industry, unfortunately. (2) The second pattern is that he does not seem to be good at assembling furniture.
