Deedee helped me and my wife with our 1.5 year old german shepherd tremendously. He’s well behaved when he’s in “training” mode but can be a terror when he’s not focused or remotely distracted. With only four sessions, his behavior went from almost unbearable (always play biting, barking at everything, not great at walking, etc.) to the point where he’s getting compliments on his behavior. We participated in two separate (different locations) group-training sessions when he was younger but the results weren’t where we wanted them. I would highly recommend one-on-one training with Deedee because she teached us, the owners, as much -if not more- than she was able to teach our dog (it could be beneficial to do group training after an initial training with Deedee to socialize your dog/pup). I never realized how much we thought we were doing correctly (per the group training classes) that just wasn’t cutting it. He still has a ways to go but she sets a strong foundation. Overall, if you have a dog you simply aren’t seeing the results you want from training or a young puppy, call Deedee. We’ll likely be boarding our dog with her as well when we go on vacation. She’s very professional, responsive and accommodating. We both highly recommend her.

We had our 2 APBT watched by Bonnie for 4 days. When we were looking for a dog sitter, our dogs picked her. The drop-off went smoothly. Throughout the days we got updates and videos of how they were doing and could tell they were fine by how they acted in them. That made it alot easier on us knowing our dogs were fine. At the end of the trip we had no problems getting our dogs back and the price was what we agreed on. We had zero issues and highly recommend her for sitting services, as we will be going back again. The dogs slept like rocks when they got home which means they had alot of fun.

Jessica is a perfect example of someone who is passionate about their life work. I have had many pet sitters over the years and had elected to not vacation for the last few years because of past poor experiences. I have no worries now. Jessica is most competent and caring as Maya's pet nanny! She is professional, calming, caring, a creative problem solver, good communicator both with listening and providing updates or questions, retains detailed information, and most importantly provides safe, loving and responsible care to my furry kid.

Rhonda has been our pet sitter for over two years now. She always takes excellent care of them in our home and gives them plenty of play and exercise. She will call us with daily updates to let us know how they are doing as well, and leaves us detailed notes. I would highly recommend her to anyone looking for an in-home pet sitter!

Fetch Pet Sitting looked after my Bulldog and 2 Kitty Cats while we took a 14 day vacation over the Christmas and New Year Holiday Season. I typically take my dog to a kennel however he is getting up there in years I and would have worried while away. Fetch set up an initial meeting in my home where the 2 sitters came and met my animals and got all the information they needed to take good care of my animals. I provided them with a key each, and on the day of my departure received a text message letting me know they would be there later on that day and to have a great vacation. During my vacation, I received a text from home giving me a quick update on the status. Which allowed me to really relax. Upon my return I found the animals content and happy. The house was left very tidy, the mail had been taken care of, and most of all my pets were all in great shape. In fact - I think they were a little disappointed when we walked through the door rather than the pet sitters - they were completely spoiled while I was away. I fully intend on using Fetch Pet Sitting again and would highly recommend this service to anyone who has pets. They were professional and very thorough, and they obviously have a deep affection for animals as demonstrated by how my pets were upon arrival home. I had the service come to my house 3 times a day - since I was gone for so long. I think the service was good value for money - I would have paid as much to Kennel my Dogs and pay a neighbors kid to look after my cats. Peace of mind - Priceless.

Matt is great to work with...we have two Briards that have never been boarded. Our male has arthritis and we always had a house sitter. FetchPet Care was great, caring and we now have confidence that our furry kids are in good hands when we travel.

Lynn is absolutely wonderful!! We've used her on several occasions. I prefer to bring my dog to someone's house while I am out of town. The first time we used Lynn, she came to my house to meet my pet for a short time. Then we did a trial period of a couple of hours where I took my pet to her house to meet her dogs. It went fantastic! Lynn and her husband are true dog lovers. My dog loves going over to her house. Recently, we were on vacation for 2 weeks, and Lynn would send photos and emails of how my pet was doing, which was very comforting. She follows any special instructions such as dietary restrictions. She and her husband are just absolutely wonderful, and our dog things so too ! I'm so glad we found her and she is conveniently located in Greensburg. I don't hesitate to recommend Lynn at all. Just truly stellar !

I had Sandy care for my pets for the first time when I went on vacation a few weeks ago. I could not have been happier with her service. She was reliable, responsive and understood the anxiety of a pet owner that worries about their babies when they leave home. I am a very neurotic pet owner and I could not recommend Sandy more highly.

I started to use Fetch Monroeville Pet Care services at the beginning of 2012 for my tomcat. I do travel a lot due to my job nature. My cat's care while I am OOT was in the past a very stressing issue since I found difficult to find reliable and professional services in the cities we lived. When I found about Fetch on Internet (not having any friend here to give me any references about), I was happy that such a service exits (versus private pet sitters) since is hard to give the key of your house to a stranger. After first meeting with Shari, my rest of skepticism disappeared in an instant when I saw how she interacted with my cat, her attention to all my requests and specifics and her dedication. After that Shari helped us more than 5 times for short and long times (longest was 3 weeks) and everything was taken care of like I was home with my cat. My cat is playing with her all the time which speaks for itself. One time we run out of food while I was out and Shari brought food from hers. She aerated the rooms as well and took garbage out. No matter how hard the weather or time in the day and night we needed her she never missed and I got my piece of mind with every day reports about my cat on my cell that she provides. I know that if he needs a doctor she will take him to vet right away. She is now part of our family not only cat sitter. Very responsible and safe. Thank you Shari! PS: also our flowers thank you for watering them.

Ellie is great with my Shar pei Chewie. Chewie is a very nervous dog and She trusts Ellie. She loves walking with Ellie. One night I was in the hospital about to be admitted and I called Ellie to get her to pick up Chew at 1130pm at night and she went and picked her up and watched her for me while some tests were being done. I trust Ellie in my apartment with my things and moreover and importantly I trust her with Chewie. Chewie was abused I think by the way she cowers when she occasionally had an accident and hides. She does not trust everyone and she trusted Ellie almost instantly which is a very rare thing for Chew. I don't think Chew trusted me when I get her as a rescue in November for almost a week. Ellie is awesome!!! Oh I also called Ellie the very day that she emailed me and I told her I needed her tomorrow. Ellie met her and came to the house that day. Ellie is the best pet walker and sitter!!

Carrie is GREAT! She is clearly a pet lover (as is her partner). She makes an effort to be flexible to one's schedule. She does not just sit and watch the dog play outside, but is actively involved. If you need her to find palace off-leash, she will find it. She will come to your home and she will do overnights. Her home is rather small to have a large pet there but it is full of love and comfort, which is most important. She will check in w/ you everyday, give you updates; never complains (even if your dog helps her to sprain her ankle!) She is trustworthy and I highly recommend her!

When our dog reached 7 years of age, we used Tracy to stop by, to walk and let our dog out for bathroom breaks, while we were working. Tracy is very caring, trustworthy and reliable. Tracy would stop by when we were home, and our dog would be excited to see her! I wouldn't hesitate to utilize Tracy's services again.

Carol is my new go-to girl. She was so good to my cat Pencils, kept in communication with me while I was on vacation for two weeks - sent me a photo of pencils while we were away - she was great. Super experienced and reassured me that my cat would be just fine while I was away when I was panicking. She certainly was well taken care of! When I picked Pencils up, her fur was super soft and it was clear that she was brushed really well (she usually sheds quite a bit). Carol is great, it doesn't get any better than that. Her prices beat any kennel or cage free cat houses. My cat is adventurous and loved watching the fish in Carol's fish tank and playing with her dogs. Carol even offered to pick Pencils up 30 minutes away from her house. She is very knowledgable and friendly. HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

I hired Erin to watch my 2 dogs and cat a few months prior to my March vacation. Unfortunately, during that time my senior dog got sick. Erin and I communicated the whole time as I got diagnosis. Erin was prepared and experienced with caring for a diabetic dog. This made me feel comfortable hiring her. Sadly my senior dog got very sick and I had to euthanize her. During that time, prior to my vacation I cannot begin to explain how understanding and gracious Erin was. I went on vacation and Erin made it so easy. She put me at ease with updates daily and was very communicative. I will hire her again because I feel comfortable that I have hired a trustworthy pet loving person.

Renee is the best! We originally wanted to hire a pet sitter to help us with our little boy who was sick. Renee met with us on short notice, brought him a toy & treats, and was great with him and his sister. After Louie passed away, Renee kept doing visits to help keep Saige happy while she missed her brother. Now, we have a new puppy and again Renee is saving the day with puppy visits. We're so happy we found her! We know we can trust her with our babies, in our home and with whatever our dogs need that day. She sends updates and pictures, leaves notes and our dogs absolutely love her! Highly recommended! Thank you so much!

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to hire a house sitter?

House-sitting can be a lifesaver when you’re leaving town for any length of time. Whether you work remotely, you’re taking a much-needed vacation, or you just want to road-trip for a few days, it’s wise to have a pro keep an eye on your house and pets while you’re gone. Your home is more likely to stay safe and you won’t have to wrangle the kitty into a kennel to travel with you. The national average pet-sitting price ranges between $20 and $30. Pet-sitting and house-sitting costs will vary based on where you live in the country and regional labor rates. Another factor in cost is how long you want the house-sitter to stay. Some people prefer to have the house-sitter stay the night at their house, perhaps to care for an elderly pet or simply to keep a watchful eye on the home at all times. Overnight stays will cost more, ranging anywhere from $50 to $100, depending on services provided. For day visits, house-sitting and pet-sitting prices will increase incrementally the longer the visit and the more service you want performed. For example, a quick 10-minute visit to feed and walk the pet and bring in the mail could be $12.50, a 25-minute visit could be $18, a 40-minute visit $25, and a 50-minute visit $32. For more, check out our tips for smart hiring on Thumbtack.

How much should you pay for a pet sitter?

Pet sitting provides your precious pet with in-home care. A pet-sitter can make a brief visit during the day to provide snacks, playtime or affection, or stay at your house for one or more nights to tend to your pet. Prices for pet-sitting will vary based on length of the visit. Nationally, pet sitting prices range from $20 to $30, although prices run higher for your sitter to stay the night. Prices will also be affected by where you live in the country. Here are some examples of average pet-sitting prices based on length of time and region:

    • 30-minute visit: $17 in a small Texas town.
    • 30-minute visit: $25 in Southern California.
      • 45-minute visit: $28.
      • 60-minute visit: $32.
    • Overnight stay (10 hours): $50 in Texas.
    • Overnight stay (10 hours): $85 in Southern California.
      • 12 hours: $100.
      • 24 hours: $200. This is a good option for a sick, elderly or brand-new pet that needs constant supervision.
