Frank and his team did an extensive paint job on all exterior woodwork on our house, including wood trim around the roof, window fascia, doors, and a bay window. Everything looked much better after the work was done, and they completed everything within a few days.

I had water leaking into the attic as well as through an upstairs window. Jake was able to go look at the problems the same day I called and give me an estimate. He sent over pictures of all the problem areas and explained how he would fix everything. I received multiple bids, and his was very reasonable. Jake was able to schedule me for 2 days later to complete the work. He had great communication throughout the process. The work was efficient and effective. It rained all weekend and there is no more water coming in! I will definitely hire Titan Roofing when it is time to replace the entire roof, and I have already recommended them to family members in need of a quality roofing company.

Highly recommend this company! We had a previous window company that never finished the capping of a window. We called a few other companies to help us finish off the capping but no other company would take us on without selling us a whole new window. When we called Vynex we spoke to Anna who helped us without trying to sell us anything more than we needed. Frank came out to our house and quickly capped the window with no fuss or issue. It was such a relief to deal with an honest company and people who saw our situation and were willing to help us. I would highly recommend this company to anyone! They gave some desperate homeowners true piece of mind and never tried to take advantage of our situation like so many others had.

Replaced two windows in an upstairs bedroom. I wish they could have found original window sizes and replaced the original trim. My house is over 100 years old so non-standard window sizes and an east coast hurricane meant I had to settle for standard size windows. The new windows are still great but not my preference!

Charles and I communicated often via e-mail prior to his hanging new window boxes for me. He arrived very promptly, asked questions of us and explained how he was going to hang the boxes (they were a different type than the usual!) He was very efficient, polite and nice to have around! The boxes looked lovely when he was finished...now I just have to fill them with flowers!! We too will certainly have him back as we have lots of other projects with just him in mind!

The team took great care of removing stained glass windows. I had a Disney Castle one and it meant a lot. It was a huge triangle window and the team was carefull and wrapped it up. Also, I had many other stained glass windows to be removed for a move. They cleaned up any debree that fell down too. I was very lucky to find the team!

Travis helped me with a bathroom remodel. I had some shower wall damage. We ended up getting a surround, then added all new fixtures for the bsthroom. We also added other items, such as 2 new basement windows, new screen doors, ridge vent and gutters and down spouts. Travis and his crew are great at what they do. Very professional and went above my expectations. Very impressed with the completed work. I would recommend Travis and his company to everyone. My parents and sister are getting estimates on work they need done as well.

Dave installed two glass block windows for us. The price was very fair. The work took a bit longer than expected, but the quality of the work and clean-up were outstanding. Definitely recommend Dave to others for their home improvement and maintenance projects.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How do you replace a window?

You may want to replace a window if the glass has been damaged, you’re remodeling a room, or you want to upgrade your energy efficiency as well as your style by getting rid of those drafty single panes that are losing you money. When replacing a window, you can remove and replace the entire window down to the house frame. This method is best if the existing frame is damaged or deteriorating, but requires construction skills and know-how and will take more time and money. An easier and less expensive option is to install an insert replacement window into the existing frame. Insert replacements are only an option if your window frame is in good condition without rot or damage.

When replacing an entire window, first you’ll carefully remove the existing window with a pry bar and other tools. Next, you’ll make any repairs and adjustments needed to the existing frame or header and studs to ensure that the space is perfectly plumb and square, so the new window will sit perfectly within the space. Next, install the new window from the exterior, securing it into place. You’ll need to precisely wrap and insulate the window to ensure it doesn’t leak. Then, install the interior casing and exterior trim (as needed). If you prefer to hire a professional to install a window, consider replacing more than one window at a time, as the pro can work more efficiently.

How much would it cost to put in new windows?

The cost to replace a window can vary depending on factors such as window size, type of glass, brand of window, necessary trim repair, and any construction work required for installation. Labor rates and cost to do business in your region will also affect the cost. The national average window installation cost is $2,650 per project. Here are some examples of average trim repair and window replacement costs:

  • Trim repair:
    • Line and case a window frame with an MDF product: $400.
    • Line and case a window frame with raw hemlock wood: $500.
  • Approximate cost to install five windows at one time: $3,000.
  • Approximate cost to install one double-hung, energy-efficient 3-foot by 4-foot window: $500-$550.
    • For the same window size (3-foot by 4-foot) from a different manufacturer made with a specialty fiberglass exterior and all-wood interior, the cost could go up to $1,500.
    • Pricing can go as high as $5,000 for a bay or bow window with specialty glass and framing.
      • These examples include removal and disposal of old materials and window.

How much is a custom window?

Choosing custom windows will increase your window installation cost but will provide you with exactly what you want. The average national cost for window installation is $2,650. Your custom window costs will vary based on several factors. The first factor is the type of frame you want. The four most common types of frames are vinyl, fiberglass, aluminum and wood. Wood is typically the most expensive option, followed by aluminum. The type of glass you select will also affect cost. There are single-, double- and triple-pane windows. Most double- and triple-pane windows have gas sealed between the panes that act as insulation. Windows typically cost more the more energy-efficient they are, though this efficiency can save you money on utility bills in the long run. The type of glass used can also affect cost. There are different grades of glass — high-performance glass, low-e coated glass, and more — which all provide you with better insulation. In addition, the number of unified inches (window height x window width) you need will affect cost. The cost of custom windows will also be affected by installation cost and whether any repair or construction work is required to properly fit the new window.
