I have a half built fence… Buchanan and I agreed that I would pay for materials in advance and 25% of the labor up front. Getting and paying for the materials with Bill involved was complicated, but they finally arrived. The day they started, Bill and Josh insisted on 25% more than we had agreed while I sat on pallets of lumber and concrete. I paid them a percentage of the increased labor up front and offered to pay as they completed the work. They insisted that nothing more would be due till the work was done. The work went slowly. They planned on digging the first 20 holes on day 1. They rented a post hole digger twice as wide as needed. They failed to dig even a single hole with it. With Zachary’s help, they managed perhaps 4 post holes per day. But less than a post hole every 4 man hours was only the beginning. They worked irregularly from around 11am to around 7pm, on average, including some Saturdays and Sundays; missing a day here or there for various reasons. They needed constant guidance. They had trouble getting boards level. Some are plainly cock-eyed. But when they finally got the framing set between 2 posts the pickets went up at a reasonable pace, but with gaps and warped boards despite plenty of stock and accommodation by Lowe’s. They used less than half the concrete that Home Depot recommends per post. So some posts wobble. I shelled out for more concrete. Those that got more concrete are solid. They begged for advances constantly. So I gave them advances to cover their personal expenses about which I received too much information. My perspective was they needed money which I could afford, but I wasn’t going to get far beyond where they stood on the job. The job dragged on. They begged for more money. Without warning, a couple of days after a few hundred more dollars, they came when I was not home and removed the gear they “trusted me with”, leaving refuse all over my yard. That was weeks ago. I haven’t heard from them since despite phone calls, e-mails, and text messages to Bill and Josh, including via Thumbtack. I am stranded with pallets of posts, framing, pickets, and concrete, along with the refuse. I am 60 and not all that fit. The day before they abandoned the job they called me out of my home office to complain about an unexpected root that meant they needed to change the length or line of a section. That evening, I wacked through it and 3 feet down in 20 minutes or so; hitting everything they complained about along the way. No problem. I am glad they called me out, though. Despite spikes along the property line they had dug post holes crossing the line (as another reviewer experienced). I do not blame that neighbor for contacting the borough. Thankfully, I caught it before it became a serious problem.

Bill and his crew were professional, and did an excellent job in a very short period of time. I would highly recommend them.
