I am very satisfied with the work that was done. Randy and his crew of 1 removed 3 layers of shingles and placed new plywood and roofing shingles. They replaced gutters. They removed outside crumbling cement steps replaced with wooden steps to the basement. Each day there was clean up of any debris. Job well done and I would recommend him.

I have had the good fortune to have Joe work on my personal and investment properties. He has done everything from putting down laminate flooring to putting in new faucets, locks, putting up curtains and painting. He is meticulous in his work and leaves the property as clean as he found it. I continue to use him and would recommend him Highly

George Yuhas did excellent work and exceeded our expectations. He arrived on time for our first meeting to inspect the job and give us a quote. My first impression was that he was friendly, professional, and a good communicator. We hired George to remove two pairs of sliding glass doors to be replaced with windows. Also in our kitchen, to remove three huge glass doors and he replaced the area with a picture window with encasement windows on each side. Difficult work! He also had to build up the wall underneath each window (three different rooms), finishing off each wall with spackling, sanding and priming. The work looks beautiful. George and his helpers were so respectful of our home, constantly cleaning as they worked. Everyday George arrived, he greeted me and chatted for a few moments, very personable, he even gave our furbabies a few pets and of course a treat. I highly recommend George for any contractor or handyman work. We were so pleased, we gave him more work to build a roof and install siding on our home.

J&J Contracting was extremely professional and did quality work at reasonable prices. They did many jobs for our home remodel that included constructing custom kitchen cabinets, replacing a barn roof, replacing the support columns on a wrap around porch to give it structural integrity, drywall installation, and plumbing.

Rich and another gentleman replaced 4 areas of drywall that had water marks and where towel racks had been pulled from the walls. They also repainted the areas and did an overall fantastic job! We are very pleased!

Mike did a good job with the project at a reasonable price. It took longer than projected but the tile work in particular came out looking just like we had hoped.

I had several contractors come to see my remodel job. The whole job consisted of a total room rip out and redo including drywall, electric, windows and a floor... but after getting several estimates, I was about to give up. TRM Construction gave me an estimate for the WHOLE job (other contractors only wanted to do just the drywall or just the floor or just the electric or just the windows and then hire sub-contactors for the other parts). The owner, Tim, was there for every step of the job from rip out to finish. The work was finished quickly and the quality is great. Plus, the total cost of the job was much less than having a different contractor (sub-contactors) for each individual step. Couldn't be happier, and I will hire TRM Construction again for my roof and kitchen remodel.

Tom Ahearn installed an electric outlet for us on 3/7/2014. He was very polite and professional. Tom took the time to explain what he was doing and was very willing to answer any and all questions. I would recommend him to family and friends and will call upon him again if I ever need electrical work again.

I have used MAS for two different jobs in the past year. First was a tile flooring job in a previously unfinished room of over 300 square feet. Mike was able to provide a quality tile at a very reasonable rate and install it in a timely manner. After tiling Mike finished the job with trim mouldings around and the room looks great! Second job was a deck addition which my wife and I wish we would have done years earlier! Although it wasn't a huge amount of decking, the location and angle cuts made this job far more difficult. Mike and his crew completed the deck in one day, it looks terrific and most importantly it's solidly built and makes the space so much more functional. They even put together a new outdoor table we bought for the expanded deck! I'm currently having MAS help me with adding some structural support to the main beam and floor joists of our home. I would and do recommend MAS Construction to anyone looking for quality construction services.

I can't tell you how happy I am with Dave and Carlina from Calm and Carry On! From the day we met for a consult, I just had a good feeling about them. They communicated constantly with me thru text and took care of getting all the materials. I had 2 bedrooms and a kitchen/dining room painted... with closets and trim work (2 coats) in 2 days! They were very personable. I trusted them in my house and they really know their stuff! They got busy immediately and got the job doneand cleaned up!! I was so impressed, in talking, found out they would install vinyl plank flooring in my kitchen on the 3rd day! I love it. They are amazing!!

Tom is now my go-to guy! His first impression was made when he showed up to do the estimate for my bathroom remodel when he said he would-on time. I am a landlord with many properties that often need work. Reliability is important to me and Tom has completed three jobs for me including an emergency heating situation. He was immediately responsive, dealt well with my tenant and took care of the problem quickly at a reasonable cost. Couldn't ask for more!

Well, he was nice but he told me he'd be over between 10am and noon he called afternoon to let me know he had an emergency. I thought okay well, my time is important too! He asked me to take pictures of the door and said I save us a few hours but what I didn't understand was why we couldn't do the whole picture thing in the first place...he finally arrived around 3:20 pm and installed a security lock inside apt and rekeyed front door. He said he did the front door for free but I was charged $550. Last night he quoted a price of $65 to rekey and the lock was about $110 online. He was finished before 2hours so I didn't feel any guilt about not tipping him bc he made $187.50 an hour. Also because he was going to keep my old medecco cylinder that I had paid $90 previously. We never discussed him keeping my old lock. Other that he did a did a great job

          Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much will it cost to fix a hole in the wall?

If you have a hole in your wall, don’t despair; drywall repair professionals can patch the hole and repaint the surface and no one will be the wiser. The cost to repair a drywall hole depends on the size of the surface area of the damage, the materials and labor required, and (for a minor repair) any minimum service fee the repair company may charge. The actual labor and drywall prices may be lower than the minimum service fee, but pros must ensure their business overhead costs are met when they go out on minor jobs. To help keep costs low once the pros get there, make sure you have the right paint on hand if you want them to do to a touch up after the repair is complete, so you don’t keep them wait (and charging you for their time) while you search in the garage. Here are two examples of average prices for smaller drywall repair jobs:

          • Approximate cost to repair a 5-foot crack in a wall: $125 (labor $75 and materials $50).
          • Approximate cost to repair a 3-foot ceiling crack: $150.

What is the difference between sheetrock and drywall?

People sometimes use the terms “sheetrock” and “drywall” interchangeably, but they are not exactly the same. Drywall is the industry term for prefabricated sheets of wall, while Sheetrock is the brand name of a type of drywall. Depending on what room is being built, your drywall installation pro will select different thicknesses or grades of drywall. Standard residential drywall is ½-inch thick. Garage walls adjacent to a living space are typically ⅝-inch thick and serve as a firewall. For a garage ceiling, most contractors will use firewall-grade drywall materials to keep your home as safe as possible.

Different types of drywall can be color-coded to indicate their purpose. Purple or green drywall boards are often mold-resistant (MR) and are applied where moisture tends to accumulate, such as in bathrooms and basements or behind tile backsplashes at sinks. These mold-resistant sheets have a fiberglass instead of a paper facing finish to prevent water absorption. Regular drywall is gray or white. The drywall industry is constantly adapting with technology to provide safer and more targeted materials. You can even install soundproofing drywall to help prevent noise transfer through rooms.

How much does it cost to put up drywall?

The national average cost to hire a drywall installation professional ranges $375-$1,500, depending on the job at hand and where you are in the country. Your drywall installation cost will often be lower if the professional is installing the drywall in a new construction with open access as opposed to a remodel. The square footage of the job, the amount of materials, and the labor required also determine drywall prices. According to drywall pros, materials costs can range from 15 percent to 50 percent of your total project cost, depending on the work you’re having done. Request several quotes from drywall installation companies to find the right fit for your construction project. The quotes may be based on the company’s standard cost per square foot or a calculation of the time estimated to complete the job plus the size of the job plus materials and any travel fees. For example, drywall installation for one or two standard-size rooms could cost $900-$1,500. The cost to hang and tape an outbuilding with approximately 40 drywall sheets at 75 cents per square foot could total $1,450, including 3.75 days of labor for the drywall crew.

How much does it cost to repair drywall?

The national average price range to repair drywall is $210-$300. Drywall prices can vary greatly depending on the size of the hole or crack that needs repair, the amount of materials required, and other factors. Cracks can appear at the seams in your drywall due to uncontrollable factors like your house settling or even minor earthquakes. Drywall, although sturdy, will break with enough impact, so if a dresser falls and crashes into a wall or your have a mishap hammering in nails for artwork, you could need drywall repair. Drywall repair professionals may have a minimum service fee of $100-$150 regardless of the size of the job. This ensures that their business expenses are met anytime they send their crew out to a job. Here are some additional examples of average drywall repair prices:

          • Sand and texture five wall patches: $200 (45 minutes of labor and $40 of materials).
          • Repair a 4x8 section of wall: $225 (labor $150 and materials $75).
          • Replace drywall in an entire bedroom: $1,500 (price varies depending on the number of windows, whether there’s metal trim, etc.).
Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
