Russ drove a pretty good distance to estimate my job. He brought plenty of samples. He also communicated with me throughout the entire process. The two installers that installed the carpet, David and Paul were equally professional. They did a great job removing the old carpet and installing the new one. They even vacuumed everything when they were finished! Oh and they take away the old carpet. Russ came at a later date to install the stair runner. He stayed until it was perfectly done and he wasn't feeling well but you wouldn't know it from the job he did. I highly recommend them.

As a retired General Contractor having built hundreds of houses over more than 20 years, when I was asked to return to Massachusetts to remodel a home for my daughter and her family I found that most of the people that had done work for me in the past had retired and were no longer available. I needed to install 700 sq ft of prefinished 3 ¼” Maple flooring and the time line was very tight so I turned to other resources to get the job done and that is where I found Wilson Silva of GREAT FLOORING AND PAINTING, REMODELING INC. I explained to Wilson that I needed the job done ASAP and he offered to start the job 2 days after I spoke to him and promised to have the job completed in 2 days, all at a price that was very reasonable and better than all of the other companies that responded to my request. Wilson showed up at the site on the day that he said he would and to my surprise was able to finish in just one day! He told me that he knew that I needed the job done quickly so he brought extra help, staying to the agreed upon price. As for the results, the job came out great. Everything looks tight and straight. He took the time to make sure that everything was done perfect. In the 20 plus years that I have been doing this type of work I can honestly say that Wilson is one of the most professional, honest subcontractors that I have had the pleasure of working with. I highly recommend Wilson Silva and Great Flooring and Painting, Remodeling Inc. Do not waste your time searching out other hardwood floor installers, you have found “The Guy”!

I can’t say enough amazing things about Go-To Carpet Installation! Oliver returned my messages immediately and was able to come this morning with his partner to take a look at my carpet. I had a unique problem that involved a urine soaked carpet and pad from my cat and after many attempts at cleaning the carpet myself, I realized the padding had to go before I can professionally clean it. Any request I made, they accommodated completely and did so in such a short amount of time! They not only helped me replace the padding, but they also helped me clean and scrub the stains that were left over, replaced the tacking, restretched the carpet, and vacuumed afterwards. It’s something I had been very embarrassed about but they never made me feel badly about the situation and were so helpful! They even gave me a quote just in case I eventually decide to replace the carpet. Everything was done within about two hours! I highly recommend this carpet installation company to anyone-you will be so pleased with the professionalism, care, and kindness that they show to their customers! Thank you so much!!!!

I recently bought a new home, which was in desperate need of new hardwood floors. After getting the run around from other flooring companies, I decided to reach out to Floor Coverings International Cape Cod. From the consultation to the installation, everything was done in a professional and timely manner. They had a vast selection, which they were able to show me at the comfort of my home. The service was top notch and the finished product looks amazing! I would highly recommend this company to anybody in the market for new flooring and carpeting.

Blair gutted and installed a new bath (custom shower, new paint, plumbing, new tile), including advising on choice of tile on trip to HD to decide/collect materials. So pleased I contracted him to re-tile kitchen floor and backsplash and remove old counter ahead of new granite install. Very good work. Very good price. Would recommend and would contract again.

My husband and I had Derek install new carpeting in a bedroom, he did a great job with the installation and we are both extremely pleased. Derek even went the extra mile to meet us at Home Depot to pick out dog friendly carpet. I am definitely calling him back when we redo our living room.

I recently had two pretty large jobs done by Abbey Carpet & Rugs. I had three rooms of hardwood floor installed (as well as some stairs) and had old hardwoods in two other areas sanded and stained to match the new hardwood. In addition, I had three areas of new carpet installed. I From the very beginning it was a pleasant experience dealing with Abby's. From the sales consultants, to the scheduling and right down to the installation. Everyone at Abby's was extremely professional. The installers (three different installers needed for this particular job) were great. They arrived on time, were extremely careful of my newly painted home, and and were very, very professional. I love my hardwood floors and they match perfectly to the old wood! The carpet is great and the runner up the stairs looks amazing. I would recommend Abby's to anyone looking for any type of flooring. I'm now awaiting the installation of two bathroom floors, and have no doubt that my experience will be just as great!!

Glen installed carpet in four of my bedrooms, and installed prefinished hardwood flooring in my kitchen/dining room, hallway, and parlor. He was very professional, clean, and punctual. He really educated me on the technical aspects of flooring installation. He isn't the least expensive installer I found, but it was worth paying a little more for his level of professionalism.

I needed a more functional closet space in a bedroom and wanted to replace the carpet with hardwood in 4 bedrooms and a hallway. Paulo was very helpful and patient with me as we determined the size and location of the new walls in the bedroom. He was very careful taking down the existing closet doors and trim for salvage and future use. The crew was efficient and they always cleaned up at the end of each day. They carefully moved the furniture in order to tear out the carpet and install the wood floor. The entire project covered nearly 900 s.f. of flooring and was completed on time within 5 days. Paulo is professional and a gentleman and cares about his craftsmanship. My friends and family were quite impressed with the work and the renovation! I highly recommend Paulo and look forward to having Paulo return to complete more projects for me.

Anthony came to the rescue when we needed a tile installation for three bathrooms. Our regular tile installer was backlogged and had not put us on his schedule even though we thought we were next in line. We obtained three quotes and Anthony's was in the middle. He has experience with all types of complicated installations and did a wonderful job on our master bath in particular working with three different tiles and creating a beautiful design.

        Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to carpet a bedroom?

If you’re building a new home, remodeling, or ready for new carpet in your bedroom, you’ll want to know carpet installation costs. Here are the factors that affect the cost of your new bedroom carpet:

        • Installation cost per square yard: From under $2 to over $6. Carpet companies have a labor cost per square foot for installing your new carpet. Depending on where you live in the country, that rate can vary greatly. This rate does not include the cost of the carpet.
        • Type of carpet: from $1 per square foot to $20 or more per square foot. The fibers that make up your carpet will have a direct effect on cost. As an example, specialty wool carpets may start at about $10 per square foot, while a manufactured fiber like nylon may be about $2 per square foot.
        • Removal of old carpet: from $1 to $4 per square yard. Old carpet is labor-intensive to remove and also costs money to dispose of or recycle. The cost to remove carpet will depend on how much carpet you need removed and whether your installation pros offer a discounted rate for installing your new carpet at the same time.
        • Subfloor repair: from $40 to $70 per hour (plus materials cost). If the flooring underneath your old carpet is damaged, it must be repaired before the new carpet is installed. Many carpet pros can offer this service, or you can hire a handyman to handle the job.
        • Type of carpet pad: $1 per square yard and up, depending on the thickness. The cost to install carpet pad is typically included with the labor cost per yard of installing the carpet itself.

How much does it cost to install carpet on stairs?

The number of stairs you want carpeted in your home will directly affect your carpet installation cost. Putting carpet on stairs generally increases the labor time and requires a higher degree of detail than laying carpet flat. Where you live in the country also plays a role in your carpet installation cost. Carpet installation companies in smaller towns with a lower cost of living and a lower cost to do business (insurance, company vehicles, employee labor, etc.) can usually offer their customers lower rates than companies in large cities where the cost of living and the cost to do business are higher. Carpet pros will often quote you a flat rate per stair once they do a site visit to provide an estimate. They’ll take into account the size of each stair you want carpeted (including both the step and the riser), and what type of stair it is. For example, the cost might range between $3 and $10 per stair for labor only. On the higher end of the spectrum, box stairs or staircase stairs with spindles that must be worked around might cost between $15 and $25 per stair.

How much does it cost to install carpet?

If you’re ready to bring new life into your house with a makeover from the ground up, you’re ready to learn more about carpet installation costs. Installation costs vary greatly, depending on a number of factors such as the type of carpet, the number of square yards, any necessary repair work, the number of stairs you have, and where you live. Due to these variables, the national average cost of carpet installation ranges between $200 and $4,500.

To start planning for your new carpet, measure roughly how many square yards of carpet you’ll need. Research the main carpet styles and materials you like to get a feel for what they cost. Nylon carpets are typically the least expensive, and wool is one of the higher-end carpets. Prices per square foot might range from under $2 to over $10, depending on materials. Count the number of stairs you want carpeted; each one might average between $3 and $10 (or more for box steps). Carpet removal can be an added cost as well, averaging $1-$4 per square yard, depending on the company and regional disposal costs.

How much is the cheapest carpet?

If you’re looking to reduce carpet installation costs, there are several ways to save. Start by considering your carpeting needs. Manufactured materials such as polyester and nylon will be cheaper than natural fibers such as wool. From big box retailers, starting prices for olefin-based carpet are approximately 50 cents per square foot — making the cost under $5 per square yard. Indoor carpets made with olefin fibers are typically the least expensive on the market. Keep in mind that olefin fibers are not as soft on bare feet as other fibers, so are often used in areas like basements, playrooms or indoor patios. Nylon and polyester are good options to reduce carpet installation costs while still creating a cozy feel. The face weight, fiber construction and density of a carpet all affect the cost per square foot. The cheapest nylon or polyester carpets can start at just under $2 per square foot, making them about $18 per square yard. Lower-cost carpet tends to wear out more quickly and show stains more easily, so avoid light colors and vacuum regularly to keep the fibers clear of dirt that might age it too quickly.
