I am giving 5 stars because she did a very amazing job with my dog, she was rescued and needed to get GROOMED ASAP! She was really matted, she had about 4 inches of thick fur coat. Cathy had the patience and did a lovely job. I definitely will keep using her for my dogs grooming. She dematted my dog and now she’s running around happy. Thank You! I appreciate the fact you came in less than a 24hr notice. Reasonable price as well.

Zephyr has mastered the art of dog training. Within minutes of our first session our previously untrained, recently adopted dog was sitting and heeling. We were trying to reduce his low level anxiety by working with him on basic obedience skills. Zephyr was very patient with me as I learned how to give the commands and how to use the leash. He was also very kind and loving to my dog, which I know is very important to most dog owners. My dog has shown less anxiety and greatly increased obedience skills in just three sessions with Zephyr. We are already recommending his services to family and friends with dogs!

Emily was a great find on Thumbtack! I contacted her about walking my corgi twice a week as I'm often busy and want him to be regularly exercised. We agreed on a more than reasonable price and is always punctual! She is great with dogs and has a wonderful personality. Contact her asap!

I will come and pick up your dogs, walk them, and exercise them. I will do anything that you want me to do.

I walk dogs, feed them and give them water. I bathe the dogs if needed. I also give them treats if they are well-behaved.

I'm great with animals especially dogs. I communicate with humans really well too. I'm an honest, hardworking, and reliable 36-year-old man who is looking for something different to do with my life right now. I love animals, so I figured I'd needed to start somewhere. I'm just being honest. If you have any questions, I'd be more than happy to talk to you.

I am an experienced vet tech, groomer and dog trainer who provides pet care, training and grooming. I am experienced in horse and exotic animal care as well.

I normally take dogs on nice walks, and I also take them to a park to run and play for an hour or more. My walks and playtime normally take about 2-3 hours. I'm 25 years old and love animals. I am very flexible; if you want certain things done while I walk your dog or dogs, I would be more than happy to do them. I also dog sit no later than 4 PM.

I am a dog lover and willing to board dogs in my home or pet sit at the dog's home. I look forward to meeting more dog owners in my area!

I do dog and cat grooming. I've been grooming for 23 years. I offer walk-in nail clipping for $10.00. Grooming is by appointment only.

This hobby stems from a long love for dogs of all kinds! I've grown up around dogs and have my own, whom I trained on my own to be obedient and gentle. I love the animal and find them amusing and entertaining. All dogs deserve their exercise to let out energy. When they do not release energy, they tend to become bored, which is when they will create the most mischief in your house (chewing, running laps, jumping etc.); however, most of us dog lovers work our 9-to-5s or lead very busy home lives. This should not keep you from enjoying the companionship of a dog; however, you should take the proper steps to making sure your dog gets the most exercise it can. I work for myself, giving myself flexibility to create my own schedule, and because of this, I found that I have wanted to spend time around animals, dogs in particular, since they keep great company. I can be hired in 30-minute intervals; you can build a consistent, low-cost routine for your furry friend. Feel free to contact me today to begin scheduling your pet's exercise routine! I am your neighborhood dog walker.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is included in a dog grooming?

Dog grooming is so much more than giving your dog a bath. Dog grooming is a broad term that covers all aspects of canine cleanliness and hygiene. The services included in dog grooming will vary based on your needs and what you choose to pay. Unless they are rolling in cowpies or playing in mud puddles, most dogs are okay getting a shampoo bath only as needed. You’ll know when they need it if they smell bad or are bringing dirt into the house. Some dogs, like shepherds and shih tzus, have thick coats that can get matted and tangled without regular care. Pro dog groomers can deftly blow dry a dog’s hair after a bath so that it is shiny and smooth. Dog grooming can include brushing that detangles dog hair and also thins the undercoat to minimize shedding.

Dog grooming also includes hygiene services such as toothbrushing and ear cleaning. Clean teeth are important to the health of your dog, and the pros have the patience and proper technique to get it done. Regular dog grooming can stave off tear stains, those reddish stains below your dog’s eyes. Anal gland expression is something not many people want to do on their own, even if they love their dog. A dog groomer can safely and efficiently release any blocked anal gland fluid. Other dog grooming services include nail trimming and clipping. Nationally, dog grooming prices range from $60 to $80. Most dog groomers offer discounts to customers who purchase monthly packages or bundle multiple grooming services at one time.

What is a dog groomer?

A dog groomer is a service professional who provides dog grooming and basic hygiene care for your dog. Dog groomers are typically animal lovers who are competent and comfortable working with a wide range of dog breeds and temperaments. Dog groomers are knowledgeable about the care needs for different kinds of dog coats. A poodle will have different haircut needs than a shih tzu, for example, so it pays to have a trained pro provide the proper cut. Good dog groomers know how to safely clean your dog’s teeth, bathe your dog, and cut their nails without going too short. They understand how to trim the hair from around your dog’s face, express anal glands, and clean your dog’s ears. Many people who choose dog grooming as a profession also pursue other dog services such as attending veterinary school, running a doggy day care center, working as a professional dog walker, and more.

What is a dog groomer?

Keep your family dogs happy, healthy and clean with regular dog grooming. A dog groomer is a business owner or employee of a dog grooming business who specializes in dog hygiene and grooming. To find a reputable dog groomer, research reviews, ask for references and confirm that the groomer has good standing in the dog grooming community.

A dog groomer should be comfortable and competent working with dogs of all breeds and temperaments. Typically a groomer will have trained with other groomers and taken educational courses to keep abreast of the latest safety information and techniques. There are brick-and-mortar dog grooming businesses, as well as mobile dog groomers who bring all their equipment and provide their services at your home or location. In some cases, brick-and-mortar businesses will also pick up and return your dog for an additional fee.

What vaccines do dogs need to be groomed?

It’s important to make sure your dog is up to date on its vaccines before taking it to a groomer. Vaccinations keep your dog and the other dogs that use the establishment healthy. Viruses can linger long after a dog is gone, so an unvaccinated dog can infect a number of other dogs days or even months after their visit. Find out about your dog groomer’s vaccination policies, and think carefully about receiving services from a company that does not require vaccinations. Here are the main vaccinations that are generally required for dog grooming:

  • Parvovirus: Parvo is a nasty virus that can kill dogs within 48-72 hours of infection. The virus is incredibly persistent and, according to the American Veterinary Medical Association, is resistant to heat, cold, humidity and drying. It’s spread by dog-to-dog contact or contact with contaminated feces, environments (food and water bowls, collars and leashes, etc.,) or people.
  • Adenovirus 2: Dogs receive this vaccination to protect against canine infectious hepatitis. The vaccination can also helps prevent canine cough.
  • Canine distemper virus: Distemper has no known cure and can cause serious pain, illness, and even death, although recovery is possible with medical intervention.
  • Rabies: This disease attacks the central nervous system and — when untreated — will
  • lead to death. The CDC recommends euthanizing an unvaccinated animal that has been exposed to rabies, although six-month isolation followed by vaccination is also permissible.
  • Para-influenza: Canine para-influenza leads to kennel cough and an unhappy dog.

How much does it cost to groom a dog?

Dog grooming costs depend on the service your pet requires. Nationally, the average price for dog grooming ranges from $40 to $100, varying by location. Not surprisingly, dog grooming on New York’s Upper East Side costs nearly double what it costs in a small town in Montana. Dog groomers typically handle every aspect of your dog’s beauty and hygiene, from tooth brushing to hairstyling. One potential way to save is to have your dog groomed at your doggy daycare — sometimes they offer discounts on dog grooming prices for clients. Here are some examples of average dog grooming costs in the San Francisco Bay Area. Please note these prices would include transportation fees for picking up and dropping off your dog to your home:

  • Nails: $30 a la carte or $20 when bundled with another service
  • Toothbrushing: $30 a la carte or $20 when bundled with another service
  • Tooth scraping (removal of plaque from teeth to prevent infection), with anesthesia: $600
  • Tooth scraping, without anesthesia: $400.
  • Wash and dry: $60
  • Ears: $30 a la carte or $20 when bundled with another service
  • Grooming package: $130 — includes wash, nails, teeth, ears, gland expression and haircut
