Devitto is prompt, responsive, and really good and fast at his work. We had numerous issues with our house (siding rot, roof crown molding and window rot) and Devito was quickly able to resolve it. He came out one day to quote and then finished the work in 2.5 days. Also best priced of the 3 carpenters that quoted from Thumbtack. We've asked him to do additional work since his initial work was done so well and will be working with him for future needs. On top of that, he is a humble guy with a good work ethic which we appreciate.
Side note: Devitto has 20 years of carpentry experience, not 3 as it says on Thumbtack.

We hired DeVitto to hang crown molding in a bathroom and install new shoe molding. He did excellent work. The corners were meticulously cut and the end result was really beautiful. DeVitto also caulked and filled the nail holes, and painted the trim, which was all included in his very reasonable price. He communicated with us through the process about his schedule (which in my experience is not something all or even most trades people do). We plan to hire DeVitto again to do additional carpentry jobs around our house. If you are looking for someone to do carpentry work, DeVitto is great. He is a master carpenter who worked previously in Virginia, and is trying to build a business here in South Carolina.

My father always said that if you don’t have anything nice to say about someone, don’t say anything! But in this case, I think it important for the next homeowner that has to deal with this guy. He contacted me shortly after I messaged him and we agreed on a price to install crown molding and a date/time for the installation. He contacted me an hour after he was scheduled to be at my home and said he was 45 mins away. Shortly thereafter, he contacted me again, indicating he had gotten a flat and would be late. He was already late, this just made him later! When he arrived, he had no help, as he indicated he was bringing. So I got stuck helping him off load his equipment. He then asked if he could borrow a ladder, because we had 9ft ceiling. As I was looking in his vehicle, I didn’t see a mitre saw, so I ask him if he had one, he said he did not. Indicating he cuts the crown using a circular saw. I have seen my share of crown molding being cut and I have never seen any finish carpenter use a circular saw to cut crown. I asked him if he had ever done this before and he claimed he did. I offered to allow him to use my mitre saw, seeing the crown was going on my house and I wanted it done right. He then had to borrow a drill, because he needed to find the studs. “Never seen that before, either” At that point, I was unsure of this guy’s abilities, so I started to watch his work. I have never seen anyone cut crown with the molding laying flat on the table. The first piece he hung on the wall, he had to cut the length 3 times to get it right. Oh boy….who did I hire! At this point, I should have cut my losses and terminated the job.
I allowed him to finish the install and although I wanted him to initially chalk the corners and nail divets, I told him he didn’t need to do that. First, because I wanted him gone and Second, to document this guy’s work. Although he doesn’t have a lot of reviews on thumbtack, they were all positive. In fact one of the reviews was for crown molding. During the install he dirty the walls and ceiling, as depicted in the pics. His mitre cuts were terrible.
No way, I would recommend this guy to anyone! What a disappointment.
