I cannot say enough good things about thks company. Straight forward, honest, good folks that undsrstood what I needed and the timeline that I was wanting to follow. Everything happened exactly as it was planned and I was sent progress photos through out the project with explanations. Quote beat four other competitors by over $500. Owner even explained different aspects of roofing and what potential issues I could experience in the future and how the warranty would protect me. Unmatched customer service and pride in their work. Hands down best experience I have had with home repairs in over 10 years!

Exceptional attention to detail. I'm enthralled. Mike and his crew are the best. They hung & finished 165 boards in our addition. Installed our trim & doors. Painted everything as well. The walls are smooth and flat & the trim looks amazing. In addition to the overall quality of the work: our experience was splendid. Remodels can be stressful. Outside of the framing, plumbing and electric...they handled everything else. True finishing professionals!

Alex and A&A Contracting replaced a rotted front stair system for us this past weekend. It was completely falling apart and we knew it would collapse soon. We had to be at a tennis tournament all day and by the time we returned, it was completely replaced (with extra support), primed, painted and resealed to prevent future water intrusion. Alex made sure to call me to let me know they would have to remove some brick to reach the bottom board, but it was placed back so perfectly, I couldn't tell at all. He also waited patiently for us to return and took an extra 30 min going over future projects we wanted quotes for. He is a perfectionist which, as a designer, is essential for me! We will be hiring him again soon for our residential needs including demolishing a fireplace hearth and retiling as well as a bathroom remodel!

After getting several quotes to fix some foundation water damage, and sliding glass door replacement, I chose to go with Anthony. He is very knowledgeable and comprehensively showed me why it was happening. He advised a solution to fix the problem, rather than just replace the damaged materials. My time schedule was stringent, and Anthony delivered as he said. He kept me up to date with the progress while I was out of town and dealt directly with my realtor with required paperwork. It was a great experience dealing with Anthony. I would highly recommend Tri Square Construction for any general contractor projects.

I have worked with many contractors before but these guys are absolutely the best. They work hard, do a fantastic job and come up with great solutions to problems that we have run into along the way of the renovation of my 1974 house. If you want a job done well and want it done right, these are the guys to do it.

Henry came out to look at our kitchen for a potential remodel. In the end, we decided that it was going to be tok small of a job but I appreciated his candor. I was finally able to get a better idea of how much money I should budget for remodel. He also gave me some references for handymen who could help us as we try to do a lot of the remodeling ourselves.

I am redoing my bathroom and needed help with the majority of the project. MCB did the demo, built the shower pan, tiled the shower and hung the drywall in the rest of the bathroom. The laid the rest of the floor in the bathroom which I will tile myself. I appreciate that they worked with me to do the things I cannot but let me do the work that I can. Everyone was friendly and they took the time to answer my questions about what they were doing as well as giving me some guidance on the next steps that I will do myself. I cannot directly compare pricing with other companies as I looked at a number of different options. However, one thing that I asked everyone was to do the demo. For demo, MCB was much cheaper and it took them a lot less time than the other companies said that it would take to do the work.

We hired this company to do a whole house renovation for us. We could not be happier that we actually found a contractor that is honest and up front every step of the way. He was willing to meet with us before we purchased the property to walk through and help us design and know what our bottom dollar would be. As with any big project there were bumps in the road but Trey was the first one to call and meet with us to come up with a solution. His attention to detail, structural knowledge and honesty was refreshing. Communication is key to me and I have to say that is what impressed me the most. A lot of contractors disappear for days or weeks at a time but every phone call was answered promptly. He made sure we knew exactly what was going on every step of the way. This has been our easiest reno to date and I look forward to doing business with King Construction in the future.

I had a problem with a sagging beam on the front porch and had no idea who to hire to fix it. Fortunately, I called CH&H Renovations. Greg came out and accessed the situation and provided the solution. The beam was replaced, columns and handrail were added. They truly transformed an average looking porch into a beautiful one. I found CH&H to be prompt, courteous and very professional. Price was fair and workmanship outstanding. I absolutely would not hesitate to hire them again. Also had them replace my roof and it looks fantastic.

      Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

Why should you hire a contractor?

Hiring a general contractor is a good idea for many remodeling projects. Home renovation contractors have a broad range of skills to manage, coordinate and complete a project. They should help make sure your project comes in on time and within your budget as they hire and supervise all the necessary subcontractors, including electricians and plumbers. They also handle procuring all the materials required for your job. Some homeowners look to save money by acting as their own contractor, but an experienced home renovation contractor is worth the cost. They should know local building codes, be able to pull all necessary permits, and work with inspectors to make sure the construction meets local codes. Also, because they get professional discounts, they can typically buy materials at a better price than you can; better prices on materials and labor save you money, and make up for at least a percentage of the cost of the contractor.

      What is a general contractor?

When starting a home remodel or new construction project, you will probably hire a general contractor. A general contractor is a professional who is qualified to take a set of building plans and construct them as outlined. The general contractor may help perform the day-to-day building, or they may just hire workers and oversee all the work activities. In either case, the job of the general contractor is to see that your project gets built.

When you have a building project, ask for bids from various contractors. The bids tell you how much each will charge and what their scope of work will be. Once you have selected a bid, you sign a contract with that general contractor outlining the specifics of the project and the milestones during the project when they will receive payment installments. Once the contract is official, the general contractor will bring in their crew to begin construction. The contractor will manage the workers and subcontractors (anyone who doesn’t work directly for their company but that they need to outsource, like a marble installation pro), order all the materials, obtain work permits, and confirm that all the workers and subcontractors are completing their projects as planned. They typically handle all the payments to the workers and subcontractors, and send you invoice. For all these reasons, it’s also especially important to follow a few smart hiring practices when it comes to finding a general contractor.  If you are organized and competent to oversee construction projects, and are able to make sure everything is being built properly and meeting code, it’s possible you can be your own general contractor.

How do you choose a commercial general contractor?

A commercial contractor provides similar services as a residential general contractor but specializes in working with large-scale projects for businesses, schools, nonprofits, governments and development firms. When researching commercial general contractors, review their portfolio of work and confirm they have ample experience working in the area you need. For example, if you are building a small strip mall, ask if the contractors have experience successfully incorporating all the needed elements such as a parking lot, meeting ADA requirements, accessing the proper permits, and completing work on time.

Once you’ve identified several qualified candidates, request bids for your project and then compare the scope of work with your needs and budget. Your commercial general contractor should oversee design, permitting, construction, materials purchase, and adherence to building code and zoning regulations, as well as sticking to an agreed-upon budget and schedule. It’s important to establish clear communication with your future commercial general contractor, as this will mean a smoother process for everyone. For all these reasons, it’s also especially important to follow a few smart hiring practices when it comes to finding a general contractor.

Do I need a contractor for a kitchen remodel?

A kitchen remodel is one of the most important investments you can make in your home, and it’s critical to get the details right; that’s where a home renovation contractor comes in. A minor remodel usually includes new cabinet faces and hardware, replacement appliances, and paint, while an extensive job may enlarge the kitchen’s square footage, install new cabinets or an island, change the layout, and lay new tile or hardwood floors. Any renovation that includes filing permits, construction, or electrical or plumbing work is best completed by an experienced contractor who knows local codes.

How much will it cost to remodel my house?

The cost to remodel a home is highly variable — size and scope of the project, quality of materials, and the number of subcontractors required to complete the job all affect the total cost. The average national cost of a home renovation project is $13,500. The national average per-square-foot cost of a remodel ranges from $25 to $100. Nationally, kitchen and bathroom remodels are the most popular types of projects, in part because they typically have the highest return on investment when the home is sold. The national average cost of a major kitchen remodel ranges from $25,000 to $62,000, while the average bathroom remodel tends to cost $6,000 to $18,000. In addition to materials and labor costs, many remodeling project costs include permit fees, which, average $900 or more, depending on your location.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
