Daniel delivered what he promised...he met with us prior to the job (a two toned colored stain on a 10' x 26' deck and a 6' x 12' porch.) He was friendly, courteous and explained all of the steps that would be taken to complete the job. He followed up with the necessary communication regarding scheduling etc. Daniel performed a thorough power washing of the deck and porch first he then came back over the next two days to complete the job. We are very satisfied with the work he performed and I would highly recommend him to anyone needing their deck stained/painted.

We hired Dennis to paint the interior of a new house that we recently purchased. He was a pleasure to work with, went above and beyond and paid a great deal of attention to all the details. Very pleased with the experience and will definitely work with Dennis again.

I needed to have some old decayed soffits replaced on my front porch. Randy was knowledgeable, professional, and did excellent work. After removing the old wood, we discovered that the problem was more severe than we had originally thought and that the fix would require more work. He took it all in stride, and basically completed the entire project (from deconstruction and gathering materials to painting and carpentry) all in one day. The price was fair, and the repair looks great. We would definitely recommend 828 Construction to anyone needing carpentry or repair work.

I can not say enough great things about my experience with Mago and his team. From the get go the communication was great and the work they did far exceeded my expectations. My father is a general contractor so my quality bar is extremely high and it looks like he did it himself. Mago fixed several areas of damage for me, helped with figuring out where to extend colors for accent and other walls and made sure that we were satisfied before calling it quits. Not only do I plan to hire Tore Expressions again for painting, I am already looking to them for refinishing my laundry room and to clean my gutters. Thank you Mago and team!

Marshall did a fantastic job at a very, very fair price. I liked that other reviewers said he did such a good job and was so trustworthy. I would echo that and say if you needed a jack of all trades, he is it. He came and did our electrical work, helped with some audio/visual issues with 3 tv's, was able to troubleshoot and get us answers on everything. We are having him come back and do some painting touch up work, fix a door, fix some tile work in a bathroom and another painting project outside. I would highly recommend him. Very polite and amicable.

Very seldom you run across people that are proud of the work they do and challenge themselves to make it even better the next time around. For many of us running into these people is just a chance of luck. Donny and Garry are these kind of people, they do not brag about their work (even though they could), don't try to sell you more than what you need, they do not speak to you using complex terms, they give you an estimate and they stick to it. However what puts Donny and Gary apart form the rest is the quality of their work. They don't cut corners, don't use cheap materials and the diligence of their work is second to none. They complement each other and their team work is exemplary, it almost looks like a competition of who can do (the work) it better and complement each other when the work is done. I hire Donny and Garry to paint the front of my house and one of the decks. They power washed the house including the entrance steps, which they didn't have to, half through their work I ask them if they could take care of the front bushes, and to my surprise (and Garry's too) Donny showed his landscaping skills like I have never seen anyone else do it. At the end, Donny and Garry left my house looking like a million dollars ...even though I cannot sell it for that amount! If you are looking for great people, then this is your team, you may be thinking that I am exaggerating, but really I feel like I am only telling half of the story. It has been a pleasure hiring Donny and Garry and hope they can help me with many other projects in the future. Many thanks.

Vision Painting called right back, showed up on time and asked me what I wanted and was willing to accommodate. They were knowledgeable and worked until the job was done. When doing the walk through they were willing to do what ever it took to make me happy - although there was nothing that was needed, they did an awesome job.

Visual Concepts provided *exceptional* service for my project. I am a part-owner of a duplex and they worked with me and the other owner to get the job to perfection, going the extra mile to get every nook and cranny. It was especially helpful that our production manager,Bobby, worked with two different schedules and expectation levels to meet our needs. This project went so much more smoothly because of his efforts and dedication to getting this project right. I am so incredibly pleased with the end-result and will definitely be using them again for my next project. A HUGE thank you to Tyler, Bobby, and the entire Painting crew!!!

My husband and I bought our dream 1 story ranch style home this past fall. Only thing we didn’t love was that it didn’t have an open concept. We found Level Up Construction using thumbtack and after the initial meeting new we found the team for us. I also gave them an extremely tight timeframe as we wanted to be in our new home by Christmas. Even thru minor setbacks they just worked harder and longer to ensure we were in! Naturally we have some tiny things after having lived here for almost a month, getting a hold of them to come back and fix them has been very easy and not an issue. Work we had done: removing a load baring wall, painting the entire home, adding canned lighting, building an office, removing textured ceiling, laying wood floors/tile, installing a new sink, and installing a kitchen backsplash. We had an idea of we wanted but in talking with them they gave us so many practical changes that we wouldn’t have known about. Paul Sr even threw in the most gorgeous piece of cedar wood to finish off our fireplace. They were always prompt and very easy to talk to. After several quotes their price was more than reasonable. Our friends have all taken their number from us! The only thing I would’ve changed was communicating better that we weren’t keeping any fixtures. As their painter went thru he painted around things so we’ll have some touching up to do. Not a big deal given the tight timeframe we gave them. We’ll definitely be using them again when it’s time to overhaul our master bath!

Kenny has done numerous jobs at our house and is amazing to work with. He communicates well, is on times and always leaves the workspace neater then it was before. When I had to have surgery he finished painting the room, hung all of the shelves and even organized them. I was expecting to come home to a disorganized room. Instead I came home to a very pleasant surprise.

Mark was really great to work with. It's evident when you meet him that he's very friendly, he cares deeply about his family, and that he is determined to delivery quality work. My wife and I had a difficult and mutli-faceted project, but Mark was eager to jump in and tackle it. We were dealing with some soot and stains on our ceiling/trim in several rooms, which was caused by a malfunctioning gas fireplace. Mark was able to make our mantle, ceiling and crown molding look like new again. We also asked Mark to paint the trim and a built-in bookcase in the room that is reserved for a baby when we grow our family. That room was very important to us, and Mark delivered. The room looks like new and is now ready for our baby to move in when it comes! Mark also did some additional ceiling and crown molding painting in our kitchen and hallway - once again, the paint looks great and those areas look bright and brand new! Mark also did some patch work on some old sheet rock in the ceiling of my garage. He patched up the holes, taped up the seams and added a fresh coat of paint. Overall, Mark had a big project in our home, but he worked very hard and got the job done. Mark was at the house the day after I put my project on Thumbtack to provide a detailed quote, so you can expect him to be punctual. That weekend he jumped right in and started making progress. My wife and I have a crazy schedule, but Mark was more than willing to work with us. Sometimes he had to come for just a couple hours in the evening during the week and other times he was in our home working through most or all of the weekend. In the end, I look back at all the work that Mark completed for us and I realize that he had a major impact on our home. Almost every room in the house, plus the garage, have been painted by him and they all look great! I walk into my living room or down my hallway now, and everything is bright, white and clean again! Thank you, Mark, for your hard work!

My carport was dingy a total embarrassment, and now it’s beautiful and a pleasure to come home to. Lloyd gave the best price and did an EXCELLENT job! I WILL be using his services for ALL my painting projects in the near future. Please see my before and after photos:

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much do painters cost?

The national average cost for an interior painter ranges between $450 and $900. Interior painters can tackle everything from complete color makeovers in each of your rooms to touching up an accent wall to painting pieces of furniture. The square footage and complexity of the project, along with the materials needed, are the main factors that will affect cost. Other factors include whether you supply the paint yourself or want the painter to do so, whether you move the furniture and do the prep work or ask them to do it, and whether any repair work is needed on the walls. Painting the ceiling and the trim will also have an effect on cost. The type of paint you choose can also raise or lower your house painting cost. A gallon of paint may range from $20 to over $100, depending on quality and brand. Ask your painter if they charge per hour or per square foot, and how much you can save by doing prep work (moving furniture, etc.) yourself.

How much does it cost to paint the interior of a house?

Interior house painting costs are calculated on a few key factors. Nationally, interior house painting projects range from $200 to $2,500. The wide price range indicates how much square footage, paint selection and labor can affect cost. One pro uses a laser to measure each room, subtracting the size of the doors and windows, and then bases the quote on the square footage of the actual surfaces to be painted. Painters may provide you with savings if you opt to paint your entire home rather than just having one room or an accent wall painted. For example, the average house painting cost for an 8x12 room with 8-foot ceilings is roughly $200, when contractor-grade paint is used. Painting ceilings, baseboards and frames can also affect cost. Pros may charge per linear foot to smooth and paint baseboards. In one area pros might charge 50 cents per linear foot to paint baseboards, while pros in another part of the country could charge $1.50 per linear foot for the same task. Painters may charge flat rates for painting door and window frames, with one charging $20-$25 and another $60 per door. Geography and regional costs to do business play a major role in the cost of interior painting. The same painter in a rural region has less to pay in taxes, transportation, insurance and overhead than they would in a major city like New York.

How much does a painter charge per room?

The cost to paint a room will vary based on the size of the room, the type of paint you select, any ceiling or trim work needed, and any repairs needed. If no repairs or other additional work is needed, painting a room with contractor-grade paint could range from $1 to $2 per square foot, including materials. Selecting a luxury paint (some cost more than $100 per gallon) will certainly increase your house painting costs. Here are some additional examples of average house painting costs, per room:

  • 12x12 room with a 9-foot ceiling: about $125
  • 12x12 room with an 8-foot ceiling: about $100
  • 14x16 master bedroom with a 9-foot ceiling: about $150
  • 14x16 master bedroom with an 8-foot ceiling: about $125
  • 16x16 living room with a 9-foot ceiling: about $175
  • 16x16 living room with a 20-foot ceiling: starting at $225
