Two days ago I called Carolina Garage Door Services. Yesterday morning Brian diagnosed the problems with my 2 garage doors and quoted me the cost to fix each. That same evening he returned to fix both doors and they're back working perfectly now. Very professional, courteous, fast and reasonably priced! I highly recommend this company.

This is the company to hire for a professional job! As busy as the owner is, he stayed on top of everything necessary to provide excellent service. The team of painters did an exemplary job! There were two areas that needed patched in my living and dining areas; flawless job! They also were extremely fast and cleaned up by vacuuming and wiping down my hardwoods. I plan to have them back in the near future to paint additional rooms and my garage. A+++

We hired them to paint our new-to-us townhouse walls, interior doors, and kitchen cabinets. Everything turned out absolutely beautiful, and the place looks brand new. We will absolutely hire them again for future paint needs, and highly recommend this business.

Gillaspie Handyman repaired a soffit as well as replaced portions of rotted wood above a window and our garage. Nick Gillaspie and his team were professional, responsive to my questions, respectful and neat. At the end of the day, they cleaned up all their materials and left not a trace of debris.

We needed some closet doors installed and "fit" to the space in our house. I reached out to Bob and he quoted the job quickly. We hired him but he was finishing another job. Bob kept me on the loop as to when he was coming to do our project. He did a wonderful job; the doors are installed and they look like they were never cut or adjusted. Bob is very professional and personable. I will definitely hire him again and recommend him to our friends.

Ben Hamrick and his team did an outstanding job at our home. They did exterior work (4 sides brick) which included trim, front door, windows, replaced rotten wood on windows, etc, From pressure washing the house, walk and driveway, to the clean up, everything was done very professionally and in a timely manner. The week they were to start, the heat was almost unbearable and Ben thought that would delay things but it all worked out according to schedule. The crew was there by 7:00a.m. and worked consistently to finish. The most impressive thing was Ben and his team's attitude towards the work. Whatever additions were added, he obliged. His contract itemized everything in detail with nothing hidden. His quote won over 5 others. Not so much because of price (although reasonable and within range) but his personality had much to do with him getting the job. Would I recommend Ben Hamrick? Absolutely, without a doubt!

Powder Room floor replaced. Jonathan and I met to pick out and purchase the tile and materials needed. He and his crew arrived when he promised and did a professional job. He even fixed a small issue with lighting outside my garage door at no additional charge. Jonathan is easy to work with and genuinely wants to make sure his customer is satisfied.

Roberto and his crew showed up when they said they would and were very responsive to my requests. They repaired drywall then primed and painted an entire house including trim and popcorn ceilings. I'm having them come back to paint the exterior doors next. Good work and reasonable priced.

Gregg has helped change the overall flow and function of my home and I am very thankful for his help. This project required him to close off 2 bi-fold doors and close it with wall. He then removed the hallway closet and created a new door on the other side so the new room has a closet. His work turned out great and would recommend him for future projects!

Mr. Martinez of Celestial Painting was very prompt in responding to giving me a quote. I had him paint my kitchen, living room and 6 doors in the kitchen. He removed a wallpaper border in the kitchen and fixed areas where countertops had been removed and patched numerous holes on the kitchen walls. I love how the job turned out and have recommended him to numerous people. He is also going to fix a cracked ceiling for me. I can’t say enough how pleased I am with his work. Carol Holub

Omar came out to give me a estimate within one hour of my initial inquiry. I check his company's bio and read all the reviews. I agreed on his price and called him a day or so later to set up a day for them to begin work. I hired them to paint the whole main floor. (Country size kitchen, family room, Dining room and sitting room) They painted the ceilings, chair rails, crownmoldings, door frames and floor trim. His workers are very polite and courteous. They cleaned up 100% when the project was done and placed all the furniture back. My house looks awesome, they did a fantastic job!! Omar's team will be out again in a couple of weeks to powerwash and paint the outside. And beyond that we have another pending job. And I must add ........ his prices are great!

My name is Angela and Queen City Painting Services was hired to paint the interior for a home recently purchased. I can not say enough great things about Mr.Luna! He was very detailed and worked with me through the entire project. We added additional work because he could be trusted and did an outstanding job on everything. His customer service was terrific! He helped us pick out the color that we absolutely love. He sent me a picture of the exterior door when the color did not show as expected and worked with us until everything was perfect inside and outside.

Great Experienced Professional Exterior Painters! We are very pleased with Jackson’s workers and services he’d provided. He showed up promptly on time to give us a quote, worked very fast to finalize the details on what is asked and cost estimate. We were very happy with the process and would highly recommend Jackson and his team to others needing paint project. The project took about 7 business days. They taped the windows and doors and covered my newly remodeled deck so paint doesn’t get on it. They worked through painting the trims and edges with double coats of white paint. They sprayed the siding of the home.... which gave it a nice even coat! They painted the beams underneath the deck as well and garage door. We are very happy with the results. Once complete, we finalized and did a walk through for touch up and clean up on recess paints etc.... surprisingly ... there wasn’t a lot of excess mess left. He even pressured wash and cleaned the driveway for us because of some paint that was dropped by his workers. Some of his workers do no speak English but My communication with Jackson was sufficient enough to convey what my needs were with the project and the information trickles down. Again, VERY happy with his work and team! He’s very pleasant to deal with and very customer service oriented! We feel like we have a brand new home! Thanks Jackson and Team!!!

Always early, professional, does excellent work. They are there when they say they will be Rates are reasonable. They replaced and repaired my siding, have installed a new entry door and storm door on my back door, removed two regular doors and replaced with bifolds. They will probably be at my house for the next few days doing other things. I will be highly recommending this company to anyone that is looking for work to be done. I will add photos when everything is complete. I could not be happier.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How do you fix a broken garage door?

Garage door problems don’t have to mean the end of the world. Garage door repair is typically a one-day process and can be done for only a few hundred dollars. Common garage door repair requests include fixing slow or erratic garage doors, addressing strange sounds coming from the garage door or motor, fixing cosmetic damage such as dents or scrapes, repairing broken doors that are stuck open or closed, and troubleshooting inoperable doors.

The two main garage door operating mechanisms are sectional roll-ups or tilt-ups. Garage door repair services can fix single-car, double-car or RV-height doors. Your garage door may be made of wood, steel, aluminum, masonite, vinyl, fiberglass or another material. The type of garage door repair you need really depends on the type of garage door you have and the issue at hand. Garage door repair pros often charge a flat service call fee to diagnose the problem and provide an estimate. For customers who choose to have the repair done, the service call fee may be applied to the first hour of labor (including time to make the diagnosis). If your garage door is under warranty, the repair may be free of charge.

Who repairs garage doors?

Garage door repair is a specialized job, which is typically handled by a garage door repair service. Professional garage door repair technicians can test or repair a garage door system and fix cosmetic blemishes on doors. Common requests include help with jammed or inoperable doors, slow or erratic doors, unusual sounds, dents or scrapes on the door, and general system testing. Garage door repair professionals can work on single-car, double-car and RV-size garage doors.

How do you choose a garage door?

When garage door repair isn’t an option — perhaps the current door is beyond fixing or you want to upgrade to a quieter, more energy-efficient model — it’s time to buy a new one. But choosing a garage door is not as simple as it sounds, even when you know the right size for your home. A wide range of materials, styles and finishes are available, and each factor influences the cost. Garage doors are made of aluminum, steel, vinyl, fiberglass, masonite, wood (typically cedar or mahogany), or a composite of several materials. They may be insulated against cold or heat. Traditional and modern styles include raised panel, carriage house or crossbuck. Most styles have window or arch options, and are available in different wood finishes and neutral colors. Because garage doors account for a large part of a home’s exterior, their appearance is usually a homeowner’s top priority. An attractive garage door can increase a home’s curb appeal and resale value.

How much does garage door repair cost?

When a garage door goes off the track, the spring breaks, the door is dented or the garage door opener is on the fritz, a professional garage door repair specialist can help. The cost to have a garage door fixed varies, but the national average cost of garage door repair is $70-$110. The extent of the damage and the size and material of the door will affect the final cost. A garage door repair company generally charges a national average of $80 for a service call, which includes the first hour of labor and service, such as testing and inspecting the garage door and opener. Apart from labor, the garage door repair costs hinge on buying replacements parts. For example, a new spring costs an average of $60. Expect to pay several hundred dollars, though, if the door is beyond repair; a new garage door ranges in price from $200 to $4,000, and most homeowners spend an average of $800-$1,200.

How much does it cost to install a new garage door opener?

Your new garage door opener cost will vary based on the model you purchase and how long installation takes. Typically, installation pros charge by the hour, although if the pro is also selling the garage door opener they may have a flat fee for the product with installation. The national average for new garage door opener costs (with installation) is between $390 and $650, although the national average cost for the opener purchased alone may be in the $150-$300 range. The three most common types of openers are chain-drive, screw-drive and belt-drive. The chain-drive costs the least but makes the most noise. The belt-drive is typically the quietest and the most expensive. You can expect to pay about the same amount for installation for any of the three styles. The lifespan of a garage door opener is approximately 10 years, depending on quality. A pro may provide opener repairs for the cost of their service call fee or they may charge a flat fee, such as $100 for opener repair. Here are some examples of new garage door opener average costs, including installation:

  • Contractor-grade garage door opener with installation: $300.
  • Chain-drive opener with installation and one remote: $350.
  • Belt-drive opener with installation and two remotes: $400
  • Top-of-the-line opener with ¾-horsepower battery backup, belt drive and nearly soundless operation: $475
    • The majority of higher-end garage door openers are “smart” products and will connect via app to your smartphone for remote access.
