Countertop Installation, Countertop Repair or Maintenance

Luke D. says, "Pros: -service was within 1 day of request -fantastic price compared to other quotes -everyone was extremely nice and helpful -overall it looks really great and we are happy with it -they made suggestions to make the faucet look better and it really does. They know what they are doing Cons - The one side was fairly uneven, maybe this is normal or it cracked or something but I will have to cover that up with a bit of caulk - I asked if they drilled in the clips so they would be sturdy and he said yes. And then I showed that we used something different before (the pressure clips where you cut a slit in) and he said that those should be used for smaller sinks. When I looked there were the pressure clips - I know dust is unavoidable, I set up a tent but it was down when I came out, I am assuming due to space issues. I would have used the plastic to cover my furniture and put food away instead if they told me their machine wouldn’t be able to put all of it outside"See more

FAQs

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does countertop installation cost?

The national average for countertop installation is $2,147, but this cost can fluctuate depending on the type of countertop you want. Countertops made out of granite, marble, quartz, laminate, soapstone and even recycled glass will all have different costs.

The color and patterns may also have an impact, particularly you choose a natural stone with rarer colors or patterns available. The size and type of finish all play a role, too. Keep in mind more customized edges, complex shapes and cutouts will add to the cost.

To understand how much your new counters will cost, talk to contractors and countertop installers near you. Request free estimates so you can properly budget for this project.

How long does countertop installation take?

Countertop installation generally takes a couple of days, though some companies say it could take less than one day and closer to a week. It all depends on the demand the pro is dealing with.

If it's a remodel job, then it will take time to remove the existing countertop. The pro will then need to make cutouts for things like sinks and electrical outlets. After shaping the countertop in their shop, they will bring it in — typically in several sections — and place it and seal it. After fitting sinks, outlets and appliances into the countertop, they will seal the seams.

When you're requesting price quotes from countertop specialists, ask them how long it will take to install your new counters.

What's the most durable countertop?

Countertops made out of natural stones — such as granite and quartz — are the most durable. These materials are nearly impervious to heat, knife cuts, scratching and staining.
