Had a problem with water leaking in through a window. Steve Clark came by the same day I spoke with him and gave me an estimate; turns out my window had been installed backwards! He explained what he'd need to do, the cost, and the timeframe. He scheduled the repair for the following week. Mr. Clark singlehandedly reinstalled my second-story window (removing and reinstalling siding, fixing the flashing, and other tweaks) - did a fantastic job, and came in at the exact time and cost, surprisingly low given that it was an all-day job! Really happy with the service received.

The price we paid was much less than any other bid we received. We are very pleased with the siding and gutter installation. This company is a small business where the owner and one other guy did all the work. The owner is a family man and could only work short days due to taking and picking up his daughter from school. I still feel like the job was completed in a very timely manner. We would definitely use them again.

We hired D B Handyman Services to install new tile on our fireplace hearth and couldn’t be happier with the results or the experience we had during the project. David is a truly skilled craftsman who not only has pride in his work, but also cares about making his customers happy. Being owners of a home that is over eighty years old, we have had many occasions that required us to carry out the often annoying chore of hiring those with construction skills. We saw the travertine tile installation for which we hired David as more than your typical handyman project, but not quite big enough to hire a contractor. However, as many simple home improvement tasks are in older homes, what looked easy from the outside was not quite as straight-forward once we started preparing the site. Lucky for us, David sensed our concern and handled everything in a thoughtful and reassuring manner that gave us peace of mind so that we could relax and know that the job was going to be done right. Not only does our tile look fantastic, the floor supporting it is now more than adequate to insure that the hearth survives another eighty years. We already have David lined up for another project and are now inspired to move ahead on others that we had given up on because we didn’t believe they could be taken care of without a lot of frustration. Though I am cautious in writing such a positive review, as I want to make sure that he is available to us when we need him, he deserves as much work as he can get and it would be unfair of me not to spread the word. If you are looking for someone who is good at what he does, creative, and fair, you have found him here.

My wife was present to designate how she wanted the placement of the wall lamps and some additional items as well. Timothy arrived when he said he would and jumped right in to the tasks. He checked all his measurements and installed everything to perfection. She is so happy with his work and so am I. He is a professional, his prices are fair, and we will definitely hire him again. Great job!

Steve recently installed window awnings on our home. He was extremely professional, precise, equipped with all tools needed, and very efficient. Not only did he schedule service within two days, he came on a Saturday morning and arrived 15 minutes early! He also made recommendation in the process that really enhanced our home's exterior decor. I am so grateful to have made the connection and have already planned to call him again for another project. I totally recommend him for home repairs!

Very pleased and my windows are too! The service was A+ and the workers were courteous and took pride in their aim to please. I signed up to have the cleaning done 3 times a year at a very good price. Well worth it! Brenda, Franklin TN (Before it was cleaned this large double pane window over my front doors appeared to have a broken seal between the glass. But it was only dirty!)

Brad was great to work with. From start to finish he was there the whole way. Windows look great and the metal capping he did made the windows look better. Brad was there during the whole installation to make sure everything went correctly and that we were satisfied with product. I love the sliding door with the blinds in between the glass. The sliding doors at the big box stores are terrible compared to this door. The sliding door is made similar to windows and have the same low-e glass as windows. The installation crew was great, they worked hard and made sure everything was exactly how I wanted. The metal bending they did for the capping was amazing. They even did my garage door frame where I had wood rot at bottom of frame. These windows and doors are some of the best available when come to u factor and most important air infiltration rating. Most window companies to not advertise their air infiltration ratings because they are so poor.

Very satisfied with his work. Not only he did an excellent work with the kitchen backslash tile installation, but he also fixed/repaired a couple of other things (oven light, wood floor repair, etc.) . Very easy to communicate with. It didn't take him long to finish, and he was fast and flexible. I strongly recommend him.

Marvin and Miguel gave me an incredibly fair quote. When they started work they were on time, professional and their entire crew was respectful. They listened to exactly what I wanted, and even made adjustments when I changed my mind. It took them only two days to complete a whole installation, and I couldn't be happier with how it turned out. Wonderful professionals that I'd be glad to work with again, and recommend to others.

The bottom line up front Cary is more than a contractor that comes to your house and does work on it. He is like a friend who truly cares about the customer experience throughout the project. Mr Cary truly helped me and my disabled veteran son by making my house wheelchair accessible for him to be able to live a normal life. He goes above and beyond, he is on time, and the work was of top quality. Cary came to my residence, turned the two living rooms, and kitchen into a open concept. He took out all the existing walls, built braces and installed a huge counter in the center that looks magnificent. Thank you so much Cary great work!

Wayne recently replaced a bedroom floor, installed new windows and did a bathroom remodel for us, with a new tile floor, refurbishing cabinets, changing out the fixtures and adding a beadboard to the lower halves of the walls. He had great suggestions for ways to improve the look of the bathroom. The hardwood floors look terrific and Wayne went above and beyond when he found a way to get a large closet done with the available materials, (which had not been computed to include the closet.) The windows look great and no more leaks.

      Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How do you replace a window?

You may want to replace a window if the glass has been damaged, you’re remodeling a room, or you want to upgrade your energy efficiency as well as your style by getting rid of those drafty single panes that are losing you money. When replacing a window, you can remove and replace the entire window down to the house frame. This method is best if the existing frame is damaged or deteriorating, but requires construction skills and know-how and will take more time and money. An easier and less expensive option is to install an insert replacement window into the existing frame. Insert replacements are only an option if your window frame is in good condition without rot or damage.

When replacing an entire window, first you’ll carefully remove the existing window with a pry bar and other tools. Next, you’ll make any repairs and adjustments needed to the existing frame or header and studs to ensure that the space is perfectly plumb and square, so the new window will sit perfectly within the space. Next, install the new window from the exterior, securing it into place. You’ll need to precisely wrap and insulate the window to ensure it doesn’t leak. Then, install the interior casing and exterior trim (as needed). If you prefer to hire a professional to install a window, consider replacing more than one window at a time, as the pro can work more efficiently.

How much would it cost to put in new windows?

The cost to replace a window can vary depending on factors such as window size, type of glass, brand of window, necessary trim repair, and any construction work required for installation. Labor rates and cost to do business in your region will also affect the cost. The national average window installation cost is $2,650 per project. Here are some examples of average trim repair and window replacement costs:

      • Trim repair:
        • Line and case a window frame with an MDF product: $400.
        • Line and case a window frame with raw hemlock wood: $500.
      • Approximate cost to install five windows at one time: $3,000.
      • Approximate cost to install one double-hung, energy-efficient 3-foot by 4-foot window: $500-$550.
        • For the same window size (3-foot by 4-foot) from a different manufacturer made with a specialty fiberglass exterior and all-wood interior, the cost could go up to $1,500.
        • Pricing can go as high as $5,000 for a bay or bow window with specialty glass and framing.
          • These examples include removal and disposal of old materials and window.

How much is a custom window?

Choosing custom windows will increase your window installation cost but will provide you with exactly what you want. The average national cost for window installation is $2,650. Your custom window costs will vary based on several factors. The first factor is the type of frame you want. The four most common types of frames are vinyl, fiberglass, aluminum and wood. Wood is typically the most expensive option, followed by aluminum. The type of glass you select will also affect cost. There are single-, double- and triple-pane windows. Most double- and triple-pane windows have gas sealed between the panes that act as insulation. Windows typically cost more the more energy-efficient they are, though this efficiency can save you money on utility bills in the long run. The type of glass used can also affect cost. There are different grades of glass — high-performance glass, low-e coated glass, and more — which all provide you with better insulation. In addition, the number of unified inches (window height x window width) you need will affect cost. The cost of custom windows will also be affected by installation cost and whether any repair or construction work is required to properly fit the new window.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
