My wife contacted Rodney through Thumbtack for a demo job that needed to be completed, that I didn't have time for because she was days away from being induced to have my son. Rodney came to the site and looked at the project, the walls, floors, sinks and bathtubs had already been taken partially out as well as back stairs and part of the fireplace. He asked us what we normally would say this job would take in terms of time and men, we said a motivated crew of three men could likely do it in three days. He quoted us $1800 for the job and we agreed. He started work and kept us updated on what happened each day, including telling us that his guys were hard to motivate and would stop and take long breaks or be on their cell phones. Seven days later, Rodney claimed he was done with the job, when we came and looked, the insulation in the ceiling wasn't taken down and Rodney claimed he talked to the homeowner and was "saving him money" by not doing it. When we spoke to the homeowner and he said he told Rodney it needed to come down because of a rat problem. A day later, Rodney emailed us claiming that he did more work than he thought he was going to and wanted more money, trying to change his bid to $3,490, itemizing each thing as if we were paying him for each individual thing instead of the bid he gave us. Two days after Rodney "finished" the job, we got a panicked because he had a threat of a lean being put on his house by Rodney. So we paid Rodney the $1800 that we agreed to in the bid. My wife, eleven days after giving birth to my son, went to the site and loaded half a dumpster in two hours. What I can't seem to understand is how it takes four grown men to fill one dumpster in a day and my wife can fill half of one in two hours. His team was definitely not motivated. My wife also called him to discuss the new bill that he had sent us because she is the one who keeps our books and if we really needed to pay him the extra money, she would be the one writing the check. He asked her if I wasn't "man" enough to call her myself, said she needed to "manage" me and not him, told her that she needed to speak with me and not with him about this, said she was condescending, said his wife thinks she is condescending, then said "I am out $700 on this job and if you don't pay me, I will come after you." All while she was trying to have him explain the bill he sent us. At the end of the day, my wife ended up calling her law firm and having her attorney look over all of the documents. We found that Rodney didn't have a leg to stand on to be asking for more money, and the fact that he wouldn't stop calling us became harassment. If he tries to contact us again we will have to order him to cease and desist and that he needs to contact us strictly through a legal team. I would NEVER recommend him to a friend or family member, and I probably wouldn't even recommend him to someone I didn't like. After all the bullshit of him going behind our back to the homeowner, the threats he has made, and how unprofessional he has been, it is a waste of time and money to deal with him. Try your luck elsewhere.
