I believe that many if not most guitar teachers focus so much on teaching where to put your fingers that they lose sight of teaching how to play music. That perspective is reinforced by the number of people who come to me with years of lessons under their belt that still can't play with confidence and freedom. I teach the guitar as a musical instrument - a tool for expressing musical ideas that begin in the ears and head, but come out through the fingers. One student of mine put it beautifully, and allowed me to quote her on my website: "Other teachers can teach you to play a song. Dave teaches you to play guitar". I spend my days sharing something I love with people who share that love. That makes me very fortunate by any standard.

Dave has taught my adult sons (guitar and bass) from time-to-time and worked with my 20-year-old daughter (guitar, songwriting) since she was 15. Dave and I have recorded and performed together in New York. I have found he is a patient teacher, a great player, extremely knowledgeable, and a nice, down to earth person as well. I learned so much about music just jamming with him, it was bound to be in his blood to teach. If Dave ever asks you to do a gig and you say, "No"... It's your loss. Every show with him is like taking a masters class in music. I say this with all sincerity, and experience.
