They gave me a very reasonable quote comparing to many moving companies I've talked to. During the moving day, they managed to finish the job in less than 2 hours. I am very impressed with their work quality and efficiency.

Wow... just wow... what an amazing moving company!!! I'm so impressed. They did such a good job. Worked fast, hard, and made sure everything was right. I will never use anyone but them again! You have to use them. Don't waste time shopping. Just call them and set it up. You'll never look back.

When acquiring quotes, one moving company quoted nearly $1400 to do the same job, where Bellhops got it done for under $300. They were on time, professional and quick. They asked me if I needed help with anything at our new house, so they helped me move my large tool box into place. Hopefully this will be my last move, but if not, I'll definitely consider using this service again. Thank you!

Mack Truck Moving was outstanding. Same day service, on time, professional and FAST! We've worked with other moving companies in the past, but we will be calling these guys for all future moving needs - big and small. Extremely happy with the service and I would highly recommend for your move. These guys moved big, heavy pieces with ease, and were practically running up and down the stairs carrying double stacked boxes and desks we swore we would never move again. Great service - thank you Mack Truck Moving.

Great experience on all fronts exceeded expectations. Will certainly hire again without reservation. Home that was cleaned had not been thoroughly cleaned in about 15 years, and now is ready to put on the market. Floor and carpet cleaning work was especially thorough (and far overdue). Again great work!

Needed to move on short notice. They did great in not damaging any furniture, walls, belongings. We moved most of our belongings that we were able to box up, but due to shoulder trouble needed help with 2 person items, dressers, beds, tables etc. was told we'd get a 17' truck (possibly 20' as one client was wavering) ... I knew we'd need 2 trips, but with everything ready to go I knew it'd get done in a speedy manner. Well we ended up with a tiny 14' truck (if that big) and it took MULTIPLE trips and lots of rearranging. It ran into way more time than it should have. I contacted Mr Terry and he agreed to adjust the bill to reflect the proper time it should have taken had we gotten the bigger truck. There were a few rough situations amongst the movers that definitely affected the communication and caused grumbling. It was close to 100* so I tried to keep them hydrated and due to them squeezing me in the schedule I was very appreciative of the hard work they did and the speed of unpacking and putting items in the proper rooms etc. also, yes they took breaks, we all do when we work, physical work is hard. They took 2 15 min breaks and we treated them to lunch. I also tipped them. I don't think people understand a lot of the pricing of a move goes to the company for insurance, paying employees etc, but when they bust their butts and sweat is dripping, they deserve a tip.. Hope anyone who uses any moving company keeps that in mind.

They showed up a little after 8:00 am with high energy, positive attitude and great work ethic. They moved fast and everything was moved into the new place before I could blink. I would highly recommend this team and moving company. This was my first time using movers and everyone including Julia in the main office made this move stress free and easy. If I move again I will be contacting Nation Capital Moving.

Very pleased with the work the guys at Miracle Repair did with our fence. We needed out fencing moved up so we could install a dog door, and they made it happen. They used our existing fence, so no new fencing was needed. We love our results and so do our animals. Looking forward to working with Miracle repair in the future. Thanks again!

We hired Jim to do some work on our rental property. We sent him an email and he responded right away! He replaced rotten wood on the exterior deck, replaced Sheetrock in the garage ceiling that had some water damage from an old leak, replaced the wood on the bottom frame of a French door , painted and sealed, and a few other small jobs/routine maintenance the home needed. Jim sent us pictures of all the completed work. He was very fast/efficient and fair/reasonably priced. Very happy we chose to hire Jim!

Wes and his family have been awesome help, picking up and moving antiques for me, three being way oversized. He’s been moving and selling antiques for decades with his family and knows the right way to carry things so no damage occurs. Another experience is he did a quick trip to Memphis to pick up an SUV and trailer full of furniture and items for me, then carried them in and put them where I needed. All at incredible pricing. I can’t say enough good things about Wes. Plus he’s got a great personality and is on time and superb with details. Give him a try!

A.M.P.M. Movers helped to make our moving experience less painful. They were punctual, efficient, and respectful of our belongings. We had had the house painted two days prior to moving, and the walls still look pristine even after moving two beds and countless other items up the staircase. Would hire again.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

    What do moving companies do?

Moving companies provide a range of services to help you physically move out of one residence and move into a new place. But moving companies can do so much more than just haul your belongings across town in a truck. The national average for moving company prices ($250-$350 per hour) reflects the range of services provided. Here are examples of all the ways moving companies can help:

    • Packing: Moving companies can pack your belongings for you. They typically charge a flat rate for both the box and the labor to pack the box. The more time-consuming the belongings are to pack, the higher the cost per box. For example, books could be $5 per box, linens $10 per box, and fine china and glassware $18 per box.
    • Specialty moving: Safely move a baby grand piano, a oversize aquarium, or other specialty items with the help of pro movers.
    • Storage: Many moving companies can store your belongings while you wait for a new home to be remodeled or closing of your new home to be finalized. If you’re moving long-distance, they often provide short-term storage free for a specific length of time, and a set rate after that (such as $60 per square cubic foot of storage space used).
    • Long-distance moves: No need to rent a trailer and move your things; a long-distance moving company can haul your belongings across the country for you. Typically they charge by the cubic foot for moves, with prices based on your destination.
    • Unpacking: Moving companies can even unpack your belongings for you after they have moved them. This is not as common, and will definitely increase the price, but can be helpful if you’re not able to tackle this task yourself.

How much does a moving company charge per hour?

When you’re ready to make a major move, it’s time to research moving companies’ prices. A moving company may charge on average anywhere between $25 and $100 per hour, per worker, for moving services. The price will vary with regional labor rates, local cost to do business, and the level of service the movers are providing. Nationally, the average hourly rate for a moving company is $250-$350 per hour. This price includes a range of pricing, from all-in service with four or more movers on site to standard hourly rates for one or two movers. Other factors that affect moving companies’ prices are packing, stairs (or elevators), and distance. For a full-service move, you pay movers to pack your belongings for you. You may pay for the cost of the moving boxes and an hourly rate per worker, and there may be additional charges for packing fragile items. Stairs will also add to your moving prices. Lifting and carrying boxes and furniture up and down stairs takes more time and creates more physical labor for the workers. Moving companies may charge flat rates for flights of stairs, such as $50-$70 per flight. A moving company may also charge a one-time fee for moving things via elevator, such as $75-$100. If parking is not accessible in front of your home or apartment building, there may also be an additional fee for the added distance to carry your belongings to the truck.

How much does it cost for long-distance movers?

Long-distance movers transport your belongings across the country for you. No more renting a trailer and road-tripping from state to state with your entire house hitched to your bumper. Long-distance movers make the move happen so you can fly to your new home, suitcase in hand, and wait for your furniture to arrive. Nationally, the average price range for long-distance movers is $1,490-$2,230. The distance you are moving and the number of cubic feet the movers have to transport will both affect cost. Another factor in long-distance moving costs is whether you choose to pay for an exclusive move or a consolidated move.

In an exclusive move, which is more expensive, your belongings are the only cargo on the moving truck. The movers travel directly to your new house and deliver your belongings on a scheduled day. A consolidated move is more affordable because the movers transport your belongings along with those of other people, saving them time and gas — which means you save money. The downside is that your belongings typically arrive with a two-week delivery window rather than on a prescheduled day. Read reviews to make sure you can trust the company with your possessions to ensure a peaceful moving process.

How much does it cost to move a one-bedroom apartment across the country?

Professional movers can handle the hard work of moving your one-bedroom apartment across the country for you. You can determine what your move will cost by learning the rate your movers charge per cubic foot and how they factor distance into the total cost. Cross-country movers typically charge based on your belongings rather than apartment size because that determines how much work they will have to do. For example, a studio apartment that is crammed full of things will take more work and moving truck space than the contents of a three-bedroom apartment with very little furniture.

Cross-country movers may also have varying rates, depending on where in the country you are moving. For example, a company may charge $5 per cubic foot for consolidated moves along the East Coast and $6 per cubic foot for consolidated moves from the East Coast to the central states or the West Coast. A one-bedroom apartment costs approximately $1,500 to move across the country.

How much does it cost to move across the country?

The national average cost for hiring cross-country movers is $1,490-$2,220. A number of factors can affect the cost. One factor is the distance you want to move. For example, an East Coast-based moving company may charge $5 per cubic foot for consolidated moves along the East Coast and $6 per cubic foot for consolidated moves from the East Coast to the central states or the West Coast. Another factor is how many belongings you have. Most cross-country movers charge by the cubic foot.

The type of move you want is another consideration in cost. You can have your belongings moved exclusively and delivered on a set day, or you can opt for a consolidated move, which is less expensive. In a consolidated move your belongings are stored and transported with the goods of other customers who are moving to your general vicinity during the same general time frame as you. Your belongings should arrive within a one- to two-week window, rather than on a set day. If you want the cross-country movers to pack your belongings for you, the cost will also increase.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
