Introduction: My name is Michael Gao. I run a team of Ivy League tutors who help students with their academics, test prep, and college application process. I scored a 36 on my ACT and a 1550 on my SAT. I was also a National Merit Finalist. In my senior year, I was accepted into Columbia University (where I go now), the Wharton School of Business, and Brown. I also received full rides from the University of Virginia and the University of Texas at Austin. When I got into Columbia, I realized just how hard high school was: SAT tests, ACT tests, college essays, and AP classes. Then, I realized that it didn't need to be that hard. Our team of other exceptional college students get it. We just took the tests and classes that your student is taking now. We just wrote the personal and creative essays that your student is struggling to even brainstorm now. We know what your student is going through and can help. We did it. We get it. Let my team and I guide your student into their dream school.

College Admissions Counseling

Michael was excellent, exactly what we needed to get our questions answered. My son really liked him too. He is going into high school, so still young, but we will reach out to Michael when it comes time for test prep.

Test Prep Services

My daughter is preparing for her ACT, and needed help reviewing for the math portion and with test-taking strategies. She's gotten a lot out of her tutoring sessions with Michael and another one of the tutors on his team. Michael started by assessing her skills, and creating a clear plan for improvement. We both feel that she's better prepared and far more confident going in to this important test!

Science Tutoring

I’m glad we found Michael. We needed help for my daughter who has been struggling and very stressed with the workload of 6 AP classes in her junior year. Not only are the tutors highly qualified but they have been very helpful. I have been pretty happy with their service.

Test Prep Services

The help our teen received launched his score to a 1450 on the SAT and his second test to a 1520. The sessions were invaluable! Highly recommend. Now the hard part, picking a college.

  • What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

I always offer a flat hourly rate, but I also offer a variety of different discounts. First, if you successfully refer another student to me, I'll give you a 100 dollar credit. Second, I offer a full package for college admissions where I work with your student throughout the process. I customize the price of the package to what you think your student needs, so just give me a call and we can talk more!

  • What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

When I begin working with a new student, I always begin by learning more about who they are and what they need. For tutoring, I always will give them a diagnostic test, which will tell me how to customize my curriculum for their needs.

  • How did you get started doing this type of work?

I started tutoring and counseling after my senior year of high school when I realized that the process was often unnecessarily difficult. I remember the late nights stressing over SAT problems. I remember the weekends spent poring over essays. Now, I want to be there for my students, so that they always have someone in their corner.
