We were impressed as to how fast he removed our old fence and installed the new. He replaced 3 post and 27ft of wood fence on his own in 5 hours! He even fixed the latch on my gate. That's amazing if you ask me! Mr. Bolin will be my go to person from now on for any of my fence issues. Thank you Mr. Bolin!

My property backs up to a creek area, so I wanted an iron fence that would not obstruct the view. I also wanted something a bit more contemporary and modern that the standard iron fence selections. After showing Nathan and his team a few examples, they were able to built exactly what I wanted.

I loved everything about working with Firewheel--quality, value, professionalism, and the quality of the work is unbelievable! They showed up on time, on my schedule, gave me a more than fair quote and then came and exceeded my expectations with my wrought iron fence install. I could not be happier. Everyone I met was pleasant to work with and they are meticulous with their work quality. This company is A+++

We needed a fence for a big yard on a not so big budget... Kasey and Michael of HomeRun Fencing made that possible! From the beginning we knew they were the ones who were going to build our fence. From communication to installation we had zero worries. They answered every question we had promptly and in detail so we were not surprised by anything. They got the permit, called 811, and brought all of the materials. I just had to sit back and watch! When it came to installation, they were there when they said they would be and even finished sooner than I thought was possible. And the final product is better than I could have ever imagined! Just look at that beautiful backyard! If you need a fence, this is the company to choose! Trust me!

I hired TKO (JD) after talking to two references, which were extremely positive about JD's work. They were so confident in his work that I hired him right away. JD has a long list of references as he has been in the business for years. This is his first time to be on Thumbtack, but has significant experience on Home Advisor. I hired him to build a wood fence in our backyard, atop a retaining wall. He told me exactly what he would do, for what price, and the time it would take. He stuck to that. The fence ended up being 6 ft longer than originally estimated, but only charged a little for the extra materials needed, which was more than reasonable considering the quality of work. We were delayed by two days due to rain, but gave me updates on progress each day. Despite the delays, the project was done within 5 days from hire to completion. The fence is high quality work. Three cross beams, sealed and stained, with extra thick fence poles which he had welded for the project. I highly recommend JD and TKO Construction. He was honest, to the point, and professional from start to finish and enjoyed working with him.

Desi and his crew did a fantastic job on multiple projects. He replaced our broken hand rail, repaired our chain link fence, and then removed/refinished/replaced ALL of our iron railing, including the replacement of a rusted out gate. He was polite, responsive, and finished over a week ahead of schedule. We will use him again for sure.

This company is really focused on quality and workmanship. I was very impressed with the attention to detail. They don't just slap a fence together and disappear. Also, I found that they were very competitive on their pricing for my Cedar residential fence. This is the first fence I have ever replaced and they explained my options and made suggestions to ease the process. I would definitely use them again!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How long is welding training?

Because there are different paths to learning to weld, there’s no single timeline for welding training. Some people attend school part-time while working their current job, while others can focus full-time on their welding training courses. People interested in learning how to weld as a hobby can also take classes from professional welders, such as at KCMA & Services in Waterloo, Indiana.

Expect to take at least two years to go from welding newbie to American Welding Society Certified Welder. A junior college Certificate of Completion welding course is two semesters full-time, or 10 units of coursework. With this certificate, students are qualified for an apprenticeship or internship, rather than a full-time entry-level job. Welding apprenticeships range from 6,000 to 8,000 hours long, equalling three to four years at 2,000 hours per year. Some junior colleges, such as Cerritos College in the Los Angeles area, offer more in-depth welding programs that lead to different welding certifications, such as arc welding and tungsten gas arc welding. These take three to four semesters to complete, so you could be qualified for an entry-level job in about two years of full-time study. Alternatively, you can prepare for employment more quickly through an intensive vocational program at a trade school. For instance, Ohio’s Lincoln Electric Company offers a comprehensive program that prepares people for a welding career in just 20 weeks and 600 hours of hands-on instruction.

How much is a redwood fence per foot?

A redwood fence is a long-lasting home investment that can add beauty and major curb appeal to your home. Redwood fence installation costs are higher than those for pressure-treated pine or cedar, due to the relative scarcity of the wood. Pricing can vary for redwood fence installation costs based on regional labor rates, current prices of redwood planks, the height and linear feet of the fence, and any custom designs or features. Redwood fences, in addition to being beautiful, are naturally more resistant against bugs and rot than less hardy or dense woods. Redwood fences also generally fare well in wet or humid climates due to their natural oils — which also make them easier to maintain. Materials costs per linear foot for redwood planks can range anywhere from $6 to $20 or more, depending on grade, quality and height.

How much does it cost to put up a chain-link fence?

Chain-link fence is one of the most affordable options for adding safety and value to your home or business. The national average chain-link fence installation cost is $2,750. Chain-link fences are relatively simple for the pros to install; a fence of less than 150 linear feet can often be put up in under one day. A good rule of thumb is to add an additional workday for each additional 100 linear feet of fence to be installed.

Chain-link fence installation costs are affected by the fluctuating cost of steel, regional labor rates, the height of fence you select, and the features you select, such as a powder-coated finish. The industry standard is galvanized steel, which is rust- and corrosion-resistant. Galvanized chain-link fence installation cost, including labor and materials, is typically $12 per linear foot. For a more contemporary and elegant option, black powder-coated galvanized chain-link fence might cost approximately $15 per linear foot on average, including materials and labor. For industrial sites or businesses, 10-foot-high galvanized chain-link fences may provide additional security, but also have an added cost. A 10-foot-high chain-link fence could cost $17-$18 per linear foot, including labor and materials.

How much does it cost to install a vinyl fence?

A new fence can mean added home value, increased curb appeal, and improved home security. The national average vinyl fence installation cost is $4,600. Vinyl fences have a number of appealing qualities such as their durability, their lasting good looks (they don’t weather like wood does), their versatility, and the fact that they require little to no maintenance such as staining. Fencing companies typically charge per linear foot for vinyl fence installation. They calculate their estimates based on materials to be used, height of fence, linear feet of the proposed fence, and the accessibility of the terrain. If the workers need to level the land before work begins, your vinyl fence installation costs will probably increase. Vinyl fences are typically more expensive than wood or chain-link. For example, one company might charge $19-$22 per linear foot for a basic 6-foot vinyl privacy fence. Another company might charge $25-$35 per linear foot for standard vinyl fencing, while decorative fencing with custom detail could increase that cost to $50 per linear foot. For a 6-foot-high white vinyl privacy fence with two walk-through gates (plus demolition and disposal of the old fence), the cost of the total project could run $8,000. A 4-foot-high, 36-linear-foot white picket vinyl fence with one gate could cost $2,600.

How many types of welding are there?

Welding is a method of fusing together two or more pieces of metal using electricity or flame. Welding is used to construct buildings, make metal sculptures, build and repair cars, make gates and furniture, and for many other practical and aesthetic uses. There are multiple types of welding. Here is an overview of the most popular methods:

  • Stick welding: Formally known as shielded metal arc welding, stick welding uses extreme heat applied at the seam of two separate metals to melt them together. A third (intermediary) metal may also be incorporated for added strength. As the metals cool, they are bonded together.
  • Metal inert gas (MIG) welding: Formally known as gas metal arc welding, MIG welding uses a tool to feed metal wire into the weld puddle while an electrical arc melts the wire, which will fuse to the base metal upon cooling.
  • Tungsten inert gas (TIG) welding: Formally referred to gas tungsten arc welding, TIG welding is a similar process MIG welding, but instead of using a tool that continuously feeds metal wire into the weld puddle, the welder must hold and manually feed the stick.
  • Gas welding: A mix of flammable gas and oxygen is used to heat metal to the melting point.
  • Forge welding: Forging metal is an ancient art that involves heating two pieces of metal until they are molten, then hammering them together.
