FAQs
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
When I begin working with a new student, I like to talk with them or their parents to determine their needs and goals. Sometimes students just want help with their homework or preparing for an important test. If a student is struggling with their grade-level course work, I like to give them an assessment to determine the areas where they are weak. I then begin by working with them in those areas.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a B.S. degree with majors in math and chemistry and a M.A. in chemistry from the University of Texas at Austin. I am currently employed as a teaching aide with Lake Travis ISD. I have had my own private tutoring business since 2014. In addition I have done private tutoring with Sylvan Learning and Lindamood-Bell Learning.
- How did you get started doing this type of work?
After I received my master's degree in chemistry, I worked for almost thirty years as a chemist. As both an undergraduate and graduate student, I taught chemistry labs. I was an assistant instructor at the University of Texas at Austin. I really enjoyed teaching and working with students. After my retirement as a chemist, I decided to pursue a second career in education. I began substitute teaching with school districts in the area and tutoring. I really enjoy helping students with their math and science studies. I particularly like working with students one on one.
