Not only was Mike on time and professional but he went above and beyond what I could have asked for. He came over to repair a leak under our kitchen sink and to attach the face of a drawer that came off. While under the sink he noticed that we were getting a couple of small leaks that we had not even noticed yet. He went to his truck and came back with parts to fix every problem. He replaced the basket in the sink and a few of the pipes that were not holding up so well. Chalk all this up and the fact that he is so reasonably priced, we will definitely be calling him again!! Oh and now no one can see what Im hiding in my junk drawer anymore!

I give Jason 5 stars for the work that he did reconnecting our sink plumbing and garbage disposal. I talked to Jason on the phone, told him I knew we would need a garbage disposal bracket as we could not get the old one off of the sink. He came prepared with all the materials that he needed and was able to complete the job quickly. Those are big bonus points in my book! The only reason that I have taken off a star on the overall rating is because Jason was over an hour late. He did text me and let me know that he was running behind, so we were aware. And he did apologize and let us know that he hated being late. So, I do feel that this is probably not something that happens often. I will definitely use him in the future and feel confident that I can provide a 5 star review then.

Carl was great removing the old and installing our new bottom mount kitchen sink. Had several plumbers and several handymen turn down the job, but Carl came in when he said he would, quickly had a plan and made it happen.

Kevin was quick to respond to my messages and arrived on time. He was very professional and pleasant to talk to. Not only that he went above and beyond by providing extensive knowledge on how to prevent my kitchen drains from clogging in the future. I would recommend working with Kevin to anyone.

The pipe that my washing machine drains into kept overflowing. It was an ongoing problem for a few months on and off. I was able to schedule my appointment for the same week. He arrived on time and fixed our problem within an hour by using an electric snake. It has been a few weeks and the problem is still solved!!! Was able to text him which is great for my busy schedule.

Connley Cannon and Gregory showed up promptly at 9:00 am and finished removing the old water heater and installing the new water heater to meet City of Austin codes at around 10:30 am. I'm very pleased with the timing and the work they did. They were very respectful and kept me informed of everything during the installation. Glad my wife found out about Thumbtack to place the job for bidding as we prefer supporting an independent whenever we can. He was also a few hundred dollars cheaper than all the other bids I received! Thanks Cannon Plumbing & Drain for a job well done.

He was only able to clear the shower. He couldn't clear the drain in the back yard but he diagnosed the problem accurately as a busted pipe. He didn't have the tools to fix the busted pipe, so he charged me approprietly for the diagnoses.

We are very pleased with the look of our bathroom. Felipe was easy to work with and did his best to make sure we got the design we wanted. We received quotes from several contractor between $8,500 to $43,000. Felipe quote was not the lowest but in the range we thought was reasonable for our size bathroom. Our project had several set backs which were no ones fault: The tub filler we selected had a design flaw, which required some redesign. The sink drains didn't work the way we hoped and had to order replacements. The tub showed up with a crack and we had to order a replacement. Felipe worked with us through each issue and did his best to guide us to a solution. One of the great things about working with Filipe was the fact he knows some very good subcontractors. The company he recommended to do the show glass, did a great job at half the cost other companies quoted for the same work. Plus we got a lifetime warranty on the glass and workmanship. With every project there's always the 90/10 rule. 90% of the work is straight forward and fairly easy to complete. The rest of the work is more tedious and requires time. There were a couple of areas I thought the work could have been better: The pony wall tile was not cut straight and left ragged grout edges (picture). The retexturing could have been better if not rushed (picture). The caulking around the tub, particularly behind the tub was very poorly done. For the price, I really don't have anything to complain about. This was our first project hiring a contractor to do a project. We learned some important lessons. 1) Create a check list of work items. This will help make sure there are no disagreements on what is and isn't part of the contract. 2) Inspect the work regularly. It's only your fault if the works not done correctly. 3) Don't pay until the work is done to your satisfaction. 4) Get everything in writing including the warranty. I can't say enough how happy we are with the new bathroom. I have other property in Austin and I will use Felipe for future projects.

I had Jim with A1 Plumbing Repair Specialist come to my house to install all new fixtures before I sold my house. He installed 3 bathroom sink, 2 showers, 1 toilet, 1 kitchen sink and 1 vegetable sink faucet. I had all of the parts already he came in an put everything together and I got more money for putting a few dollars in comparatively. Great work! Will use again at my new house if necessary.

july,15, 2015. i had t-horn remove my disposal and then straight pipe my kitchen sink. my 1st positive impression was by looking at this site. benton responds to all his customers feedback and thanks them on this site. he also has a code of ethics he discusses on this site. also he called me this morning to followup and make sure everything is working. my sink was stopping up when my dishwasher drained and it was gross. i am still checking to make sure it is ok because i did not run a load of dishes last night. i am sure it is fine. he also replaced a bib on the outside. so how many plumbers do you know that do this type of thank you and telephone follow up and discusses ethics? NONE!!; well now there is one that that does. anyway, i wanted to develop a relationship with t-horn, because you just never know when you will need a plumber. thanks benton. patrick

David did an excellent job of diagnosing our problem over text. He was courteous inside our home, and after repairing our kitchen drain, he even went the extra mile by repairing a faulty disposal switch. If we ever need a master plumber again, we'll call David.

I had the pleasure of hiring Ryan to repair a clogged sewer drain. The day before he came the City of Austin came and stated that the problem was their responsibility and repaired it. When Ryan came he notified me that there was nothing for him to do and refunded me my deposit. He is a very pleasant, respectful and honest person to work with. I shall definitely hire him again and I highly recommend him.

Awesome work done by Pex Plumbing! During the job, the plumber ran into an unforeseen problem with where we wanted to re-position our lines for a kitchen remodel. He was able to come up with an even better solution and did so all in quick order. We will have him come back to do more work once our kitchen is complete. For now, all I can say is that he was a true professional and did a wonderful job for us!

We used Treaty Oak Plumbing to fix an issue with our kitchen sink not properly draining. The owner, Ben arrived at our house when he said he would, fixed the problem right away and was reasonably priced. We will definitely use Treaty Oak again for an upstairs bathroom remodel. I would really recommend them.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What are plumbers and what do they do?

Plumbers are skilled professionals who are trained to install and maintain pipes and systems for drinking water, sewage and drainage. They usually have trained through four- to five-year training programs, which include apprenticeships, via trade schools and community colleges. Plumbers’ areas of expertise typically go beyond pipes to include mathematics, blueprint reading, plumbing codes and water distribution. They handle plumbing emergencies, such as broken pipes or clogged drains, and install and maintain everything from a new piping system to a replacement faucet. Plumbers also know how to install bathtubs and showers, toilets, water heaters and dishwashers. Plumbers may work on residential or commercial sites, sometimes designing and laying out a pipe system during construction.

How do you find a good plumber?

Whether you need a plumber to perform drain repair, install a new fixture, or replace rusty pipes, you need to make sure you hire someone reliable who will finish your job on time and within budget. Start by asking the plumbers on your short list these questions:

    • What is the total cost? Make sure your estimate includes materials and labor. Find out whether the plumber will be providing the materials and whether you’re being charged an hourly rate (which is variable) or a flat fee.
    • Is removal and cleanup included in the job? Some plumbers leave behind old parts, while others include the cleanup in the cost.
    • Is the work guaranteed? Find out whether the work (as well as the parts or fixtures) are guaranteed under a warranty.

Follow these additional tips for confidently hiring a plumber or other skilled professional.
