The technicians arrived on time and replaced the fire alarm batteries, identified the bad alarms, identified the correct replacement alarm, and installed replacement alarm. Very happy with the results and they were reasonably priced. Will use this company for future repairs.

These handy man guys are a one phone call, done deal! Everything is taken care of. They fixed my garbage disposal, patched a hole in the wall from the door. Even have a cleaning maid service. They are affordable, honest, and local. I’d refer them to anyone looking to work with an honest Family ran company.

These guys are expert water damage professionals with highly skilled and certified associates. They came to dry my house out after a heavy storm, put everything back to before damaged state and even upgraded some things for me. I even had them come steam clean the tile at my job! I cant recommend a more respectable company!! Good job ARA and thank you for helping me.

Hired on Thumbtack

This is a difficult review to write, because they are genuinely nice people. They respond quickly and are extremely courteous. And when it comes to water damage restoration, I've no doubt that they excel at their job. But that's not what I hired them to do and, unfortunately, the project was simply beyond anything they were capable of handling. I started a project on thumbtack because I needed to have a new window installed and, for whatever reason, Austin Affordable Restoration was the only business that was recommended. They provided a quote that was really high considering the task that needed to be completed, so I asked them if they would like to also do a pass through between my kitchen and living room. I sent them a picture of what I wanted, which you can see in my review. They said no problem, and would be willing to do the whole thing at a discounted rate if it's done the same day. I agreed, and an appointment time was set up. Unfortunately, there were a few delays because the window had yet to be delivered - and I mention it because they were extremely understanding about it. They went out of their way to accommodate my schedule, which I really appreciated. A date was set and they were here first thing in the morning, ready to get to work. Everything was going fine, until I realized that they were simply going to cut a hole in the wall, without providing the proper support (since it is load bearing). When I brought this to their attention, they said I never mentioned that, so the cost of the install would have to be adjusted. I DID in fact mention it (which you can see highlighted in my message), but more importantly - that shouldn't be my job. They're the experts, so they should know whether or not a wall is load bearing before starting a project. What bothered me as much as anything, though, is that they acted like I was an idiot for being concerned about it. They said it was unnecessary, because I have a "pier and beam house" but they would go ahead with it if that's what I wanted. They then went on to say that they would have to year down the drywall on both sides of the wall and put a 14 foot header in to reinforce the wall. First of all, my house is on a concrete slab, it is not pier and beam. Second, you don't need to destroy the wall in order to reinforce it. As the picture I've attached shows, you simply need to put a header above the opening, which is supported by some 2x4s on either side. That properly redistributes the weight which is bearing down on the wall. With all of that in mind, I decided to tell them to stop working and just pay them for their time. As far as I was concerned, they didn't have the technical knowledge to complete either project, so it was just best to quit right then and there. I think they charged too much -$425 - for what they did, which amounted to taking down the original window and cutting a hole in the wall, I could have done those two things myself, so it was really just a colossal waste of time and money. So, again, while they are probably exceptional at handling water damage, they really shouldn't be involved in handyman work at this point. I do not recommend them for handyman services.

Affordable Restoration Austin's reply
Afternoon Robert, When it comes to a situation like this, and applying the support needed. There are steps needed to be taken to insure proper installation. Unfortunately we do not take short cuts, I understand you are already renovating a lot and adding on this extra project to the original idea wasn’t expecting to be over your budget. Yes we quoted a price ESTIMATED based off the (3) Photos provided and what was asked. We opened the space between the living room and kitchen (opening for a bar), uninstalled the window with its exterior trim, (was asked to stop) and reinstalled it. *unfortunately there is no way for us to install a header without removing Sheetrock and electrical wiring. -ARA
