FAQs
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Of course! My study of TCM will never end. Deciding what to study first is the only drawback. We are required as acupuncturists to get CEU's every year in order to maintain our license.
- How did you get started doing this type of work?
I owe my career in TCM to a shoulder injury. Not only was I in pain but I couldn't participate in the sports I loved. I saw doctors, went to physical therapy and received cortisone shots. It helped, but not enough. An acquaintance suggested acupuncture and by that time I was willing to try anything. I saw an expensive, highly recommended professional and felt like it was a waste of time and money. He didn't tell me what he was doing or why. He put in needles, set a timer for 20 minutes and left. When the timer went off, he came back, took out the needles and sent me to his receptionist. It felt impersonal and I didn't notice results. Six months later another person recommended a community acupuncture clinic. I told her I had tried acupuncture but didn't find it worthwhile. She insisted I would like this particular clinic and eventually wore me down. I went in, tried it, and fell in love. Totally different experience. My shoulder healed, my overall health improved and I felt better than I had in a long time. I continued my weekly appointments and started doing some research. I soon realized my passion for TCM vastly outranked my feelings toward my current career. I always knew I wanted to work with and help people and after my own experience with acupuncture I knew I had found my calling. I applied to schools and moved from WI to TX. It was a huge decision for me but oddly enough, the easiest. I haven't looked back since.
- What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
We ask some odd questions. We want to look at your tongue, feel your pulse and ask about your bowel movements. We sometimes ask about thinks you may think are unrelated to your problem. I assure you they are not, so please don't hold back, or deny a symptom. We are not judging, we are trying to determine your diagnosis. So please answer in detail, it'll help us do our job.
