About
Two people can walk in with the same goal and need training that has little in common. One has a shoulder that catches every time it goes overhead. The other had knee surgery six years ago and has avoided loading that leg ever since without ever deciding to. Most gyms hand both of them the same program, because the program was written before either of them showed up.
We start from the other end. Every client at Motive begins with an assessment, where we measure how each joint moves on its own and how much of that motion you can control under load. Injury history, medical context, recovery, and what you want to be able to do all go into the plan, so the program fits the person in front of us.
The system underneath is Functional Range Conditioning (FRC), developed by Dr. Andreo Spina. It trains joints directly, building strength in the outer parts of a joint's range where most programs never ask you to work, and giving you control over motion you can't yet produce on your own. That work runs through everything else we do, from heavy lifting to the conditioning that keeps you capable ten years from now.
The assessment is the easiest place to start. You'll leave knowing where you stand and why.
What We Offer
- Personal Training. One-on-one coaching built from your assessment, where every exercise has a reason you can ask about.
- Motive Movement & Mobility Assessment. The starting point for most new clients, covering how you move, what you're training for, and where the gaps sit.
- Group Mobility. Coached KINSTRETCH classes in the studio, pay-what-you-can, with 20% of proceeds going to FarmShare Austin.
- KINSTRETCH Online. The same system on your own schedule, from anywhere.
- Manual Therapy (Coming Soon). Hands-on work designed to reduce tissue tension, paired with the training that keeps the range you gain.

My weekly visits to Motive are pretty much my self-care, therapy and workout all rolled into one. As someone who has never had a healthy relationship with working out and my body image, the thought of initially completing an assessment at Motive was pretty nerve-wracking. However, Brian and Liz immediately won me over! They worked with me on identifying goals that I wanted for myself and there was no push to focus on weight loss (or other "go to" goals). Instead, they encouraged me to begin with listening to my body and helped me see the potential I had for bettering my mobility, strength and endurance. Four months in and I can honestly say that my sessions, the ones usually filled with great conversation and ridiculous laughter, are the proudest investment I've made in myself in the last several years.

My partner and I had such a great experience with Motive! We worked with Brian the months leading up to our wedding and both of us felt great on our big day. We found Brian, and the whole team over at Motive, to be incredibly knowledgeable, relatable and focused. We didn't just get a great workout, we were educated about proper form and given ideas to try at home. All in all, great experience and would recommend to anyone who is wanting to make sustainable changes in their life.

Going to weekly Kinstretch has been amazing! I have learned so much about gaining strength within my full range of motion and have felt more stable and confident with my other forms of exercise because of it. Brian does an amazing job with instruction and makes it easy to understand how your body moves and how to make each exercise more effective. I'm excited to go back next week!

I came to Brian at Motive Training with a shoulder injury. After our first session together, he was able to help me pin point the cause of my shoulder pain. During the hour, we also did work together to improve the pain and my range of motion and I was surprised to feel some relief! (I've had this shoulder injury/pain for over 2 years). Brian was very thorough when it came to solving exactly where my shoulder pain was coming from. I am grateful for how careful he was when it came to testing my shoulder mobility and integrating different exercises. I was really happy with my 1-1 session because I now know what I need to work on to improve my shoulder. Following the session, I also received a detailed protocol with video tutorials of exercises I need to do daily to maintain my progress. I hope to get back to serving a volleyball overhand soon! Looking forward to my future sessions at Motive Training. Thanks, Brian!!

FAQs
What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
Personal training is $115 per session. Once a week comes to about $460 a month, and twice a week, where most clients make their steadiest progress, runs about $880. Group Mobility classes are pay-what-you-can, which makes them the lowest-cost way to train with us. You can use HSA and FSA funds through Truemed with a Letter of Medical Necessity. You're reimbursed after purchase, and we help with the paperwork once you've booked.
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
Your first visit is the Motive Movement & Mobility Assessment, which takes 60-90 minutes. We talk through your goals, training history, past injuries, and anything medical we should know, then measure how your joints move and how much of that range you can control.
From there, we set goals, record baseline measurements so we can retest later, and start training. Most clients come in at least twice a week and get a short program to do on their own between sessions. That work drives most of the results, so we keep it to what fits your week.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Every coach at Motive holds certifications through Functional Range Conditioning, the joint-training system developed by Dr. Andreo Spina, so our assessment and programming stay consistent no matter whom you train with. Our founder, Brian Murray, has coached since 2009 and holds FRCms, FRA, FRSC, and KINSTRETCH Level II certifications. He is also completing Texas massage therapy licensure.
