Overall, the fence staining job turned out fine. There was an issue with one of the fence panels coming loose during the power washing, but after discussing it, he was responsive and agreed to come back and take care of it whenever he is in the area. I appreciate his willingness to address the issue and make it right. Thank you for the work!

I did not hire this pro, so I cannot comment on the quality of his actual work. My review is based solely on my experience communicating with him through Thumbtack.

This pro responded to my fence-staining project twice, on two separate postings. Both times, I provided a detailed description of the project along with photos and specifically requested an in-person estimate. Both times, his immediate response was to ask me to call him to “discuss the project.”

I did not see the purpose of a phone call. The project was already described in detail. The logical next step was an in-person estimate, where the contractor could walk the property, see and measure the fence, properly evaluate the work involved, and provide an estimate. It would also give me an opportunity to meet the person I might be hiring.

When I did not agree to a phone call, communication stopped. He simply stopped responding through Thumbtack. This happened both times I posted the project.

I found that unusual and concerning. If a contractor is interested enough to respond to my project but unwilling to come out for a specifically requested in-person estimate without first requiring a phone call, that is not someone I am interested in hiring. To me, an in-person estimate is part of the effort involved in earning the job, particularly for a large exterior project that needs to be evaluated on site.

Again, I cannot evaluate this pro’s workmanship because I never hired him. I can only evaluate my experience trying to obtain an estimate, and based on that experience, I would not hire him.
