Cordobe is *by far* the best moving company I've ever used, and I am speaking as one who has moved many times in my life. Cordobe was extremely professional and careful with all our items. They treated me with an impeccable degree of integrity. The movers all had 10/10 attitudes. The owner is one of the nicest and most decent businessmen I've ever encountered. I will absolutely hire Cordobe again for future moves and will recommend them to everyone I know. If you are fortunate enough to have Cordobe bid on your move, you can accept their bid knowing with absolute confidence that your move will go extremely smoothly and as pleasant as a move can possibly be.

Initial and continued communication was good, quote was very reasonable, Analisa was great, movers were responsible and courteous. Was notified the morning of the move the movers would be about 30 minutes late and appreciated Analisa letting me know...but then was again notified by one of the movers their truck wasn't property working and would be there a few hours later than the scheduled time.

I hired four movers and two trucks to move a 3700 sf home, four bedroom, three and a half baths and lots of furniture. It took them 11 hours, longer than I anticipated, but they did a great job, took care not to tear the house or our things up, and they were all very personable. A little more expensive than I imagined but worth a little extra money to have the job done right. We will use them again in the future, hopefully many many many years from now!!!

I hired Red Carpet movers, Elijah and his crew arrived on time, evaluated the entire house of furniture and boxes, then liked a well oiled machine, two of them started moving boxes. The other guys were busy padding and wrapping the furniture. Within two hours, all of the house belongings were loaded on his enclosed hauling trailer. I was in awe of the teamwork and professionalism that Elijah and his guys showed. They were courteous, polite and respectful. Within a short timespan of four and a half hours, Elijah and his crew had my furniture in my new home, all of them had their company logo on, had asked where i wanted each piece of furniture, cleaned up all of the wrapping material and made sure that there was nothing more that i needed them to do. If you are looking for a company to move you, call Elijah at Red Carpet Movers, they are the best of the best. Thank you Elijah, what a great experience.

This was going to originally be a one-star rating. I scheduled the movers between 8-9 am. The driver called me at 9:30 and said he was 20-25 minutes out. At 11, the movers were still not at our apartment and I called them and their hub, but got no answer. at 11:30, they called and said they had to finish up another job and I should have received a call from dispatch, but she must have forgotten to call us. They eventually got to our place at around noon. So, despite the three hour delay, the movers hauled butt and got everything completed in three hours and apologized profusely for the earlier miscommunication. We moved from a two story, two-bedroom town home to an upper-story three bedroom apartment. The two movers were quick, hard-working, professional and respectful. I would be willing to hire them again and hope that the delayed arrival time/miscommunication thing was a one-time only affair.

Really was impressed but the quality and professionalism of Theo and his crew. I had a scheduling mess up and they were able to get me moved even with a 3day delay. They responded to all of my messaging in a timely manner. On the day of the move they actually called me 3 hrs early to get jump on my job. From the time they arrived until finish they were great and for the cost you won’t find better movers. Best moving value in DFW. I’ve already recommend and referred them to a friend. Thank you “Extra Set of Hands”

Service was great but I was extremely disappointed to hear that the movers made about 25-30% of the total amount I was billed and that Bellhops takes the remaining 70-75% when all the movers are essentially gig economy workers (similar to Uber drivers). They should absolutely be taking home a higher percentage. It's outrageous.

What a great company!!! I could not be happier!! Thank you CJ and crew! They called before arriving, got right to work, and moved efficiently. The men were very professional and they had great personalities! I was very impressed with how hard my movers worked and how good their attitudes were, especially considering that I moved from a 3rd floor apartment and there were no elevators available. LoL. I doubt you find another similar service out there today that would charge the fair price Universal Movers did AND would also provide a professional service quality at the same time. I can't say enough about this service! Highly recommend! Thank you again!!!!

I'm so impressed with Smith's Moving Company! My girlfriend and I originally hired them to only move a few large pieces of furniture to our new house, but when the movers arrived and saw that it was just she and I loading our truck, they offered to help with the entire move instead. I'm so glad we accepted their offer! What would have taken the two of us at least all day (8+ hours) took them only 4 1/2 hours, and they packed our truck in such a way that it would have made even the most masterful Tetris player cry with joy. I am sure they hadn't planned on spending so long on our move, considering the original request was only for 5 pieces of furniture, but my girlfriend and I are eternally grateful for the potential arguments and injured extremities we avoided because they were willing to offer additional help. When we're ready to move again, this will be the first phone call we make in our preparations. Thank you again! Keep up the outstanding work!

So happy with the job Hawks movers did on packing and moving my house. Mark and Robert were super fast and took great care of my things. They were even able to fit all my junk in their trailer...although I did mention I didn't have that much stuff, but it turns out that I really did have that much stuff, they still made it work lol! Although they weren't the cheapest place that sent me a quote, they were worth every penny I spent on the move. Thank you so much for all your help guys :)

Great experience from start to finish. Unfortunately had to call at the last second because shipping pod was delivered late. Called first thing in the morning and the movers were there within 2 hours. They worked fast and efficiently to get all of items in my apartment in enough time for me to be productive for the rest of the day. Would definitely recommend and use again if needed to. Thanks Gents!!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What do moving companies do?

Moving companies provide a range of services to help you physically move out of one residence and move into a new place. But moving companies can do so much more than just haul your belongings across town in a truck. The national average for moving company prices ($250-$350 per hour) reflects the range of services provided. Here are examples of all the ways moving companies can help:

  • Packing: Moving companies can pack your belongings for you. They typically charge a flat rate for both the box and the labor to pack the box. The more time-consuming the belongings are to pack, the higher the cost per box. For example, books could be $5 per box, linens $10 per box, and fine china and glassware $18 per box.
  • Specialty moving: Safely move a baby grand piano, a oversize aquarium, or other specialty items with the help of pro movers.
  • Storage: Many moving companies can store your belongings while you wait for a new home to be remodeled or closing of your new home to be finalized. If you’re moving long-distance, they often provide short-term storage free for a specific length of time, and a set rate after that (such as $60 per square cubic foot of storage space used).
  • Long-distance moves: No need to rent a trailer and move your things; a long-distance moving company can haul your belongings across the country for you. Typically they charge by the cubic foot for moves, with prices based on your destination.
  • Unpacking: Moving companies can even unpack your belongings for you after they have moved them. This is not as common, and will definitely increase the price, but can be helpful if you’re not able to tackle this task yourself.

How much does a moving company charge per hour?

When you’re ready to make a major move, it’s time to research moving companies’ prices. A moving company may charge on average anywhere between $25 and $100 per hour, per worker, for moving services. The price will vary with regional labor rates, local cost to do business, and the level of service the movers are providing. Nationally, the average hourly rate for a moving company is $250-$350 per hour. This price includes a range of pricing, from all-in service with four or more movers on site to standard hourly rates for one or two movers. Other factors that affect moving companies’ prices are packing, stairs (or elevators), and distance. For a full-service move, you pay movers to pack your belongings for you. You may pay for the cost of the moving boxes and an hourly rate per worker, and there may be additional charges for packing fragile items. Stairs will also add to your moving prices. Lifting and carrying boxes and furniture up and down stairs takes more time and creates more physical labor for the workers. Moving companies may charge flat rates for flights of stairs, such as $50-$70 per flight. A moving company may also charge a one-time fee for moving things via elevator, such as $75-$100. If parking is not accessible in front of your home or apartment building, there may also be an additional fee for the added distance to carry your belongings to the truck.

How much does it cost for long-distance movers?

Long-distance movers transport your belongings across the country for you. No more renting a trailer and road-tripping from state to state with your entire house hitched to your bumper. Long-distance movers make the move happen so you can fly to your new home, suitcase in hand, and wait for your furniture to arrive. Nationally, the average price range for long-distance movers is $1,490-$2,230. The distance you are moving and the number of cubic feet the movers have to transport will both affect cost. Another factor in long-distance moving costs is whether you choose to pay for an exclusive move or a consolidated move.

In an exclusive move, which is more expensive, your belongings are the only cargo on the moving truck. The movers travel directly to your new house and deliver your belongings on a scheduled day. A consolidated move is more affordable because the movers transport your belongings along with those of other people, saving them time and gas — which means you save money. The downside is that your belongings typically arrive with a two-week delivery window rather than on a prescheduled day. Read reviews to make sure you can trust the company with your possessions to ensure a peaceful moving process.

How much does it cost to move a one-bedroom apartment across the country?

Professional movers can handle the hard work of moving your one-bedroom apartment across the country for you. You can determine what your move will cost by learning the rate your movers charge per cubic foot and how they factor distance into the total cost. Cross-country movers typically charge based on your belongings rather than apartment size because that determines how much work they will have to do. For example, a studio apartment that is crammed full of things will take more work and moving truck space than the contents of a three-bedroom apartment with very little furniture.

Cross-country movers may also have varying rates, depending on where in the country you are moving. For example, a company may charge $5 per cubic foot for consolidated moves along the East Coast and $6 per cubic foot for consolidated moves from the East Coast to the central states or the West Coast. A one-bedroom apartment costs approximately $1,500 to move across the country.

How much does it cost to move across the country?

The national average cost for hiring cross-country movers is $1,490-$2,220. A number of factors can affect the cost. One factor is the distance you want to move. For example, an East Coast-based moving company may charge $5 per cubic foot for consolidated moves along the East Coast and $6 per cubic foot for consolidated moves from the East Coast to the central states or the West Coast. Another factor is how many belongings you have. Most cross-country movers charge by the cubic foot.

The type of move you want is another consideration in cost. You can have your belongings moved exclusively and delivered on a set day, or you can opt for a consolidated move, which is less expensive. In a consolidated move your belongings are stored and transported with the goods of other customers who are moving to your general vicinity during the same general time frame as you. Your belongings should arrive within a one- to two-week window, rather than on a set day. If you want the cross-country movers to pack your belongings for you, the cost will also increase.
