About this pro

How does your business stand out?

We offer more options than most other competitors. Not only do we offer all levels of instruction (even beginner!), we also have classes and events for experienced crafters as well. And while scrapbooking stores may offer classes, how many of them will bring the class or the crop to you?

What do you enjoy about the work you do?

I love meeting new people! I especially love sharing my crafts with people who think they have no creativity because in a class I can show them just how creative they can be! It is always fun to see new crafters as they realize "I can do this!"

Q&A

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
Pricing depends on the scope of the project. The typical rate for a completed scrapbook album is $5/page plus supplies. Scrapbooking lessons and classes can range from $15+ depending on the skill level and length of class. We also offer FREE group crafting and tutoring most Thursdays at the studio.
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
I like to have a thorough conversation with the client about what they want to achieve. For instance, are they wanting scrapbooking lessons, or are they looking to have someone complete a project for them? In the case of projects, it is important to know how many photos/pages the customer wants as well as the level of detail needed. Do you want simple pages with photos and captions, or are you looking for something more elaborate?
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have taken numerous trainings and workshops including: Copic Markers 1,2 and 3; Bible Journaling, mixed-media, card-making, photography, stamping techniques, and more. I have also been involved with Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts, having been a Leader (both), Merit Badge Counselor (Boy Scouts), and a Council Trainer for other adults (Girl Scouts). These positions required specific training for working with, leading, and instructing both youth and adults.
How did you get started doing this type of work?
I have been a scrapbooker for 30+ years. My mother scrapbooked, and I was the club Reporter (scrapbooker) for my high school V.I.C.A. team. I have a passion for genealogy, and it, combined with my love of photography, naturally developed into a desire to document the lives of my family and our heritage. I began teaching photography and craft lessons to Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts when my children were young, and in 2003 I founded Crafty Neighbor with a friend of mine to offer scrapbooking classes, crops, retreats and cruises. I have been on the design team and taught classes for Scrappin' Goodtime, a scrapbooking store in Corsicana, and I host many events around the Dallas area.
What types of customers have you worked with?
We organize scrapbooking events including classes, crops, retreats, and cruises. We have classes and events for all levels of scrapbooking skill.
Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?
I recently completed a 56-page mini scrapbook album that I started while I was on the cruise I was scrapbooking. The challenge for this project was in working with such a small size and finding suitable embellishments for the pages that were both flat and fit the 4½" x 7" pages. I worked on this project off and on for over a year (I was also working on other projects at the time), and I really love how well the small format was able to capture the essence of my trip.
What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
Creativity and inspiration begin with a thorough understanding of the tools used to create. Expertise begins with application of that understanding over time. Sharing creativity, inspiration, and expertise helps it grow! If you are one of our students, our goal is to help you find the creativity and inspiration inside yourself, and help you share it with others in fun and meaningful ways!
What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?
It is important for me to know whether you are looking for lessons, or are looking for someone to complete the project for you. If you are interested in finding someone to complete your project, I need to know how many photos and/or pages you expect the project to be, what size (12" x 12", 8½" x 11", 8" x 8", etc.). I also need to know the level of detail you are looking for. Do you want simple pages with photos and captions, or are you looking for something more heavily detailed and/or embellished? For lessons, it is helpful to know what you expect to gain from lessons or classes. Are you just starting out and need to know where to start, are you a card-maker but want to branch out into scrapbooking, or are you an experienced crafter looking to expand your skills?
