Dale replaced two fence posts and repaired the gate. The work looks great and the fence is up and gate is working again. Dale was very pleasant to work with and he communicated the material needs (wood, screws, etc). Dale's quote was very reasonable. Dale arranged to do the work promptly. I would definitely hire again!

I needed about 100’ of wood fencing replaced and put it on Thumbtack one morning. James was one of the first to reply and setup a meeting. He showed up on time and gave me a bid. I got two additional bids and he was the cheapest. I asked about materials and how they installed the fence. I was satisfied with the answers and hired him James and his helper showed up when he said they would and had the fence replaced in just a few hours. Great guy, great price, and built the fence I wanted. I will use again when we replace another section on fence

I am 100% satisfied with Mr. Bolin's work. I highly reccomend him. He was punctual, respectful, professional, and quick without compromissing quality. We were impressed as to how fast he removed our old fence and installed the new. He replaced 3 post and 27ft of wood fence on his own in 5 hours! He even fixed the latch on my gate. That's amazing if you ask me! Mr. Bolin will be my go to person from now on for any of my fence issues. Thank you Mr. Bolin!

Good Prices, Professional & Friendly I had a tree that the trunk split a half on my house hours before a wind storm was to hit our area. I called Stanley and he was able to come and cut the tree before the big branches fall down. Although the wind storm was on the way, he was very careful of bushes, flowers and sprinkler heads in the flower bed below. He got the tree cut off and didn’t cause any other damage to house or yard in the process, another company had told me that they couldn’t get to me until the next two or three days, the wind with the storm would have torn up the roof and the fence if the tree had still been there. I also have Stanley scheduled to do a portion of my fence while he's here, and he was also did an excellent job as well. His prices are good, he is professional, and friendly. I will also use him in the future and recommend him to everyone.

My wife and I just had Nathan install a fence. There was good number of trees and bushes to work around. Many of the other contractors were skeptical of the project or priced way out of the ballpark. Nathan was professional and confident in the work that could be done. They completed the job in a timely manner and did a terrific job. The crew worked very hard and conducted themselves extremely professionally. If you are looking for a fence contractor, Anchor Fence is the way to go.

Jason & Tanner of GRIZZLY FENCE built my back-line 8 foot cedar fence exactly to my specifications - even down to my request for cutting one picket shorter so the neighborhood kitties could scoot through the yards. I've had other fences built before & usually saw the labor being passed off to a crew who were paid slave wages, had a language barrier and did shoddy work. This was NOT the case with GRIZZLY! Jason and his buddy Tanner did the work themselves. They were here for the estimate and here to build the fence. They gave me an estimate on time - began and finished exactly when they said they would be and took care of the clean up as well. I will probably hire them again to put in the south side fence next year. Oh, and their estimate was almost $200 less than all the others, so I tipped them appropriately and still felt like I got a screaming deal. GRIZZLY is the best!

Khurram/Firewheel Roofing have been an absolute pleasure to work with! Firewheel Roofing is doing a couple of projects for us, and I am so grateful that I found them through Thumbtack! Pricing is very fair, and the work is exceptional.. he was out here the next day after we met, and had my fence and safety gate done within 48 hours! I can't wait to see the end result after all of our backyard renovations are complete.. (please note- the gate and side fence is our existing fence, not done by Firewheel.. they uprooted it, moved it back 18 feet and extended the side yard with the new side by side cedar pictured herein.. beautiful craftsmanship!)

I searched for different fence contractors and when I found Cody at Braughton & Sons custom fencing I knew this was the right company for me. Cody was up front and honest with his estimate and did exactly what he said they would do! He and his employees did a great job, not only with the fence, but with communicating through the whole process. I absolutely recommend Braughton & Sons custom fencing for your fencing needs.

We needed a fence for a big yard on a not so big budget... Kasey and Michael of HomeRun Fencing made that possible! From the beginning we knew they were the ones who were going to build our fence. From communication to installation we had zero worries. They answered every question we had promptly and in detail so we were not surprised by anything. They got the permit, called 811, and brought all of the materials. I just had to sit back and watch! When it came to installation, they were there when they said they would be and even finished sooner than I thought was possible. And the final product is better than I could have ever imagined! Just look at that beautiful backyard! If you need a fence, this is the company to choose! Trust me!

I hired TKO (JD) after talking to two references, which were extremely positive about JD's work. They were so confident in his work that I hired him right away. JD has a long list of references as he has been in the business for years. This is his first time to be on Thumbtack, but has significant experience on Home Advisor. I hired him to build a wood fence in our backyard, atop a retaining wall. He told me exactly what he would do, for what price, and the time it would take. He stuck to that. The fence ended up being 6 ft longer than originally estimated, but only charged a little for the extra materials needed, which was more than reasonable considering the quality of work. We were delayed by two days due to rain, but gave me updates on progress each day. Despite the delays, the project was done within 5 days from hire to completion. The fence is high quality work. Three cross beams, sealed and stained, with extra thick fence poles which he had welded for the project. I highly recommend JD and TKO Construction. He was honest, to the point, and professional from start to finish and enjoyed working with him.

Shout out to D&M Welding Fences and Gates! Desi was prompt and professional, and the handrails were exactly as I asked for. Highly recommended! My parents needed a little extra help getting in and out of the house and these are very sturdy. Feels good to know they are that much safer. I will definitely use Desi for any upcoming work.

This company is really focused on quality and workmanship. I was very impressed with the attention to detail. They don't just slap a fence together and disappear. Also, I found that they were very competitive on their pricing for my Cedar residential fence. This is the first fence I have ever replaced and they explained my options and made suggestions to ease the process. I would definitely use them again!

Our fence was damaged and a friend referred us to Jorge from M&S Doors, Fence, and Gates. Not only did he fix our fence, but he also installed a storm door and fixed the gate to our backyard. Jorge and his father did an amazing job installing everything in about 1 day and half, and we are 100% satisfied! We will definitely contact them again and refer them to our friends!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much is a redwood fence per foot?

A redwood fence is a long-lasting home investment that can add beauty and major curb appeal to your home. Redwood fence installation costs are higher than those for pressure-treated pine or cedar, due to the relative scarcity of the wood. Pricing can vary for redwood fence installation costs based on regional labor rates, current prices of redwood planks, the height and linear feet of the fence, and any custom designs or features. Redwood fences, in addition to being beautiful, are naturally more resistant against bugs and rot than less hardy or dense woods. Redwood fences also generally fare well in wet or humid climates due to their natural oils — which also make them easier to maintain. Materials costs per linear foot for redwood planks can range anywhere from $6 to $20 or more, depending on grade, quality and height.

How much does it cost to put up a chain-link fence?

Chain-link fence is one of the most affordable options for adding safety and value to your home or business. The national average chain-link fence installation cost is $2,750. Chain-link fences are relatively simple for the pros to install; a fence of less than 150 linear feet can often be put up in under one day. A good rule of thumb is to add an additional workday for each additional 100 linear feet of fence to be installed.

Chain-link fence installation costs are affected by the fluctuating cost of steel, regional labor rates, the height of fence you select, and the features you select, such as a powder-coated finish. The industry standard is galvanized steel, which is rust- and corrosion-resistant. Galvanized chain-link fence installation cost, including labor and materials, is typically $12 per linear foot. For a more contemporary and elegant option, black powder-coated galvanized chain-link fence might cost approximately $15 per linear foot on average, including materials and labor. For industrial sites or businesses, 10-foot-high galvanized chain-link fences may provide additional security, but also have an added cost. A 10-foot-high chain-link fence could cost $17-$18 per linear foot, including labor and materials.

How much does it cost to install a vinyl fence?

A new fence can mean added home value, increased curb appeal, and improved home security. The national average vinyl fence installation cost is $4,600. Vinyl fences have a number of appealing qualities such as their durability, their lasting good looks (they don’t weather like wood does), their versatility, and the fact that they require little to no maintenance such as staining. Fencing companies typically charge per linear foot for vinyl fence installation. They calculate their estimates based on materials to be used, height of fence, linear feet of the proposed fence, and the accessibility of the terrain. If the workers need to level the land before work begins, your vinyl fence installation costs will probably increase. Vinyl fences are typically more expensive than wood or chain-link. For example, one company might charge $19-$22 per linear foot for a basic 6-foot vinyl privacy fence. Another company might charge $25-$35 per linear foot for standard vinyl fencing, while decorative fencing with custom detail could increase that cost to $50 per linear foot. For a 6-foot-high white vinyl privacy fence with two walk-through gates (plus demolition and disposal of the old fence), the cost of the total project could run $8,000. A 4-foot-high, 36-linear-foot white picket vinyl fence with one gate could cost $2,600.

How much does it cost to install a wood fence?

Help define your property line, protect your home and yard, and boost your curb appeal with a new wood fence. The national average for wood fence installation cost is $3,250. Wood fence installation costs will vary based on your geographic location, the type of wood you select, the height and style of wood fence you desire, and the condition of your property. Pressure-treated pine is a common and attractive choice that is usually resilient against rot and bugs. Cedar is another budget-friendly option that, although more expensive than pressure-treated pine, can be more affordable than redwood or teak. A wood fence requires maintenance to ensure its long-term health and beauty, so keep future staining and painting costs in mind when you’re calculating fence installation costs. Here are some examples of how height and material affect the approximate cost of wood fences:

  • 6-foot-high, pressure-treated pine fence: $15-$17 per linear foot.
  • 4-foot-high, pressure-treated pine fence: $13-$20 per linear foot.
  • Cedar fence: $18-$25 per linear foot.
  • 6-foot-high, double-sided (meaning both sides are uniform), pressure-treated pine fence with 6x6 posts: $25 per linear foot.
  • 12-foot-high, pressure-treated pine fence with custom detailing: $75 per linear foot.
  • 6-foot-high, pressure-treated pine fence with a custom lattice top: $30-$50 per linear foot.

How much does it cost to install a fence gate?

Adding a gate to your fence can be a practical way to provide access to a yard, work area or outdoor living space while ensuring safety and privacy. Gate installation costs will vary based on the gate material you select, the size of your gate, whether you install a fence at the same time, and any special features you’d like to add. Standard opening size for a single-wide gate is 4 feet; a double-wide gate is 8 feet. A small gate may be for decoration; a double-wide gate can be mounted on a rolling caster system to allow access for cars or wide loads. Here are some examples of average fence gate installation costs:

  • 4-foot, single-swing chain-link gate: $100 for materials and installation costs.
  • 28-foot wheeled chain-link gate on a caster system: $800-$1,000 for materials and installation costs.
  • 4-foot, single-swing wood gate: $75.
  • 8-foot double-wide wood gate: $150.
  • 4-foot white vinyl walk-through gate: $300–$400 for materials and installation costs.
  • 8-foot, double-wide white vinyl gate: about $800 for materials and installation costs.
  • White vinyl gate fence more than 8 feet wide: $1,200-$1,500 for materials and installation.
  • Arched black powder-coated aluminum pool gates: $175-$200 per gate.
