Jason did an amazing job on a laundry list of tasks, ranging from installing wifi controlled light switches, replacing GFIs, fixing a leaky sink, installing new in ceiling speakers to completely restaining our fence. He was very polite, professional and reasonably priced. Jason clearly takes pride in his work and ensures that you are 100% satisfied. We highly recommend Jason for all of your handyman needs. He will be back to assist us with other tasks in the future.

Dale replaced two fence posts and repaired the gate. The work looks great and the fence is up and gate is working again. Dale was very pleasant to work with and he communicated the material needs (wood, screws, etc). Dale's quote was very reasonable. Dale arranged to do the work promptly. I would definitely hire again!

I needed about 100’ of wood fencing replaced and put it on Thumbtack one morning. James was one of the first to reply and setup a meeting. He showed up on time and gave me a bid. I got two additional bids and he was the cheapest. I asked about materials and how they installed the fence. I was satisfied with the answers and hired him James and his helper showed up when he said they would and had the fence replaced in just a few hours. Great guy, great price, and built the fence I wanted. I will use again when we replace another section on fence

I am 100% satisfied with Mr. Bolin's work. I highly reccomend him. He was punctual, respectful, professional, and quick without compromissing quality. We were impressed as to how fast he removed our old fence and installed the new. He replaced 3 post and 27ft of wood fence on his own in 5 hours! He even fixed the latch on my gate. That's amazing if you ask me! Mr. Bolin will be my go to person from now on for any of my fence issues. Thank you Mr. Bolin!

Good Prices, Professional & Friendly I had a tree that the trunk split a half on my house hours before a wind storm was to hit our area. I called Stanley and he was able to come and cut the tree before the big branches fall down. Although the wind storm was on the way, he was very careful of bushes, flowers and sprinkler heads in the flower bed below. He got the tree cut off and didn’t cause any other damage to house or yard in the process, another company had told me that they couldn’t get to me until the next two or three days, the wind with the storm would have torn up the roof and the fence if the tree had still been there. I also have Stanley scheduled to do a portion of my fence while he's here, and he was also did an excellent job as well. His prices are good, he is professional, and friendly. I will also use him in the future and recommend him to everyone.

Nabil is very professional and responsive. We had him replace our fence last week and he did a great job. After the job was done and I had paid him in full, my neighbor called me to complain that one of the sprinkler heads had been damaged. When I contacted Nabil he could've easily ignored me since I had already paid him for his work, but instead he took the time to go back (twice since the first time our neighbors weren't home) and fix the problem - which was probably not caused by him in the first place since the damage was nowhere near the fence. This was a rental property and Nabil could've given me cheaper options, but instead he walked me through all my available options and pointed out that instead of the cheapest option, going with the mid-tier one made more sense. Upon his recommendation, we went with the slightly better fence, but hopefully it will last longer. Thanks Nabil for a job well done.

Anchor Fence installed a 6-ft tall, pre-stained cedar fence for my private residence, as well as two gates (one entry gate into the yard, one I had built to keep dogs away from the AC unit). My wife and I (and I are neighbors) are extremely pleased and impressed with the quality and price. The fence is gorgeous and very well built. Anchor fence was less expensive per foot then the company my neighbor on the other side hired a couple of years ago, but the quality was 10x better. The crew that did the installation were absolutely outstanding, leaving my yard seemingly cleaner than how they found it! We are so very pleased and cannot recommend Nathan & Anchor Fence highly enough.

Jason was very professional, friendly and extremely accommodating. I had already received 3 other quotes from other fencing companies, which were all considerably more than Jason's quote. Jason initially gave a quote per linear footage via text based on the materials I requested (8ft x 5.5in cedar pickets, 2x6 pressure treated kicker, 2x6 cedar cap, 2x4 pressure treated rails, 2 3/8" steel post and water treatment.) This was pretty straight forward, which helped relieve a lot of anxiety I had about the entire process, making me wish I had made the call sooner. Once he arrived and measured the area, he stayed true to his initial linear quote, which was very competitive, in fact, better than all other quotes I had received. Ironically, it rained both days we had scheduled to do the job, as well as all through the weekend. Although it rained, Jason and his crew worked tirelessly each day, completing what they could with risking safety. Knowing I had big dogs that were being confined to the house, as long as the fence was down, Jason even came out on Sunday by himself, to put up a temporary fence, until the rain subsided. Once it stopped raining, Monday they were able to complete the job very quickly. Jason and his team are very hard workers and get the job quickly, professionally and the quality is unsurpassed. This is the fence I always wanted, but thought I could never afford. My fence has only been up 2 days and I have already had 3 people in my neighborhood stop to inquire about the contractor and price. I highly recommend Grizzly Fence and Patio. I was not disappointed. In fact, I am having my back deck replaced later this year and I already know, I will be calling Jason first! Don’t hesitate.. Get some quotes and then contact Jason.

Shout out to D&M Welding Fences and Gates! Desi was prompt and professional, and the handrails were exactly as I asked for. Highly recommended! My parents needed a little extra help getting in and out of the house and these are very sturdy. Feels good to know they are that much safer. I will definitely use Desi for any upcoming work.

I needed a home inspection before agreeing to the asking price of a house we were about to purchase. This being a major purchase, I wanted to make sure that I had a thorough inspection done so that I had the peace of mind that we weren't going to have to fix for hidden problems at a later time or to negotiate a fair price with the seller if there were issues with the house. Chris was incredibly detailed, he walked us through every item he listed down in his findings and explained what it was and what could be a potential problem in the future. He had all these cool tools that allowed him to reach every corner of the house like this drone to inspect the roof of the house. Looking at their website and finding that they had just about every certification out there gave me confidence in knowing that we were in good hands. I'd definitely recommend them to anyone out there looking for a knowledgeable and professional inspection that will give you peace of mind.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much is a redwood fence per foot?

A redwood fence is a long-lasting home investment that can add beauty and major curb appeal to your home. Redwood fence installation costs are higher than those for pressure-treated pine or cedar, due to the relative scarcity of the wood. Pricing can vary for redwood fence installation costs based on regional labor rates, current prices of redwood planks, the height and linear feet of the fence, and any custom designs or features. Redwood fences, in addition to being beautiful, are naturally more resistant against bugs and rot than less hardy or dense woods. Redwood fences also generally fare well in wet or humid climates due to their natural oils — which also make them easier to maintain. Materials costs per linear foot for redwood planks can range anywhere from $6 to $20 or more, depending on grade, quality and height.

How much does it cost to put up a chain-link fence?

Chain-link fence is one of the most affordable options for adding safety and value to your home or business. The national average chain-link fence installation cost is $2,750. Chain-link fences are relatively simple for the pros to install; a fence of less than 150 linear feet can often be put up in under one day. A good rule of thumb is to add an additional workday for each additional 100 linear feet of fence to be installed.

Chain-link fence installation costs are affected by the fluctuating cost of steel, regional labor rates, the height of fence you select, and the features you select, such as a powder-coated finish. The industry standard is galvanized steel, which is rust- and corrosion-resistant. Galvanized chain-link fence installation cost, including labor and materials, is typically $12 per linear foot. For a more contemporary and elegant option, black powder-coated galvanized chain-link fence might cost approximately $15 per linear foot on average, including materials and labor. For industrial sites or businesses, 10-foot-high galvanized chain-link fences may provide additional security, but also have an added cost. A 10-foot-high chain-link fence could cost $17-$18 per linear foot, including labor and materials.

How much does it cost to install a vinyl fence?

A new fence can mean added home value, increased curb appeal, and improved home security. The national average vinyl fence installation cost is $4,600. Vinyl fences have a number of appealing qualities such as their durability, their lasting good looks (they don’t weather like wood does), their versatility, and the fact that they require little to no maintenance such as staining. Fencing companies typically charge per linear foot for vinyl fence installation. They calculate their estimates based on materials to be used, height of fence, linear feet of the proposed fence, and the accessibility of the terrain. If the workers need to level the land before work begins, your vinyl fence installation costs will probably increase. Vinyl fences are typically more expensive than wood or chain-link. For example, one company might charge $19-$22 per linear foot for a basic 6-foot vinyl privacy fence. Another company might charge $25-$35 per linear foot for standard vinyl fencing, while decorative fencing with custom detail could increase that cost to $50 per linear foot. For a 6-foot-high white vinyl privacy fence with two walk-through gates (plus demolition and disposal of the old fence), the cost of the total project could run $8,000. A 4-foot-high, 36-linear-foot white picket vinyl fence with one gate could cost $2,600.

How much does it cost to install a wood fence?

Help define your property line, protect your home and yard, and boost your curb appeal with a new wood fence. The national average for wood fence installation cost is $3,250. Wood fence installation costs will vary based on your geographic location, the type of wood you select, the height and style of wood fence you desire, and the condition of your property. Pressure-treated pine is a common and attractive choice that is usually resilient against rot and bugs. Cedar is another budget-friendly option that, although more expensive than pressure-treated pine, can be more affordable than redwood or teak. A wood fence requires maintenance to ensure its long-term health and beauty, so keep future staining and painting costs in mind when you’re calculating fence installation costs. Here are some examples of how height and material affect the approximate cost of wood fences:

  • 6-foot-high, pressure-treated pine fence: $15-$17 per linear foot.
  • 4-foot-high, pressure-treated pine fence: $13-$20 per linear foot.
  • Cedar fence: $18-$25 per linear foot.
  • 6-foot-high, double-sided (meaning both sides are uniform), pressure-treated pine fence with 6x6 posts: $25 per linear foot.
  • 12-foot-high, pressure-treated pine fence with custom detailing: $75 per linear foot.
  • 6-foot-high, pressure-treated pine fence with a custom lattice top: $30-$50 per linear foot.

How much does it cost to install a fence gate?

Adding a gate to your fence can be a practical way to provide access to a yard, work area or outdoor living space while ensuring safety and privacy. Gate installation costs will vary based on the gate material you select, the size of your gate, whether you install a fence at the same time, and any special features you’d like to add. Standard opening size for a single-wide gate is 4 feet; a double-wide gate is 8 feet. A small gate may be for decoration; a double-wide gate can be mounted on a rolling caster system to allow access for cars or wide loads. Here are some examples of average fence gate installation costs:

  • 4-foot, single-swing chain-link gate: $100 for materials and installation costs.
  • 28-foot wheeled chain-link gate on a caster system: $800-$1,000 for materials and installation costs.
  • 4-foot, single-swing wood gate: $75.
  • 8-foot double-wide wood gate: $150.
  • 4-foot white vinyl walk-through gate: $300–$400 for materials and installation costs.
  • 8-foot, double-wide white vinyl gate: about $800 for materials and installation costs.
  • White vinyl gate fence more than 8 feet wide: $1,200-$1,500 for materials and installation.
  • Arched black powder-coated aluminum pool gates: $175-$200 per gate.
