I offer a hands on fun aproach to learning by using manipulatives and real world experiences in math and science. The best way to improve reading comprehension is to foster a passion for reading by using your child's personal interest they will remain focused and reading won't be a chore but something they actually enjoy. To improve writing skills your child won't just work on spelling, grammar and format but also will learn how to express themselves using their 5 senses, feelings and the use of figurative language to increase details and interest within their compositions. I can also help reduce anxiety regarding the state assessment, STAAR, and help your child with test preparation.
I believe that communication between the tutor and teacher is a key component to increasing academic success. If possible I would directly communicate with your child's teacher to not only get a better idea of academic weaknesses but to also support skills and strategies be learned in the classroom. It's a great way to get feedback if there are gains or whether certain areas need more work. If teacher, parent and tutor are a united front it's avoids confusion for your child.
My favorite part about working with children is seeing the light bulb go off and watching the confidence build! It's important that a child measure success based on their own growth and not compare themselves to others. Everyone develops at their own pace and should feel good about their individual growth. I like to help children develop self confidence, see the possibilities of what they are capable of and watch them blossom!
