I'm very please with Sit Means Sit Dog Training in Belton, TX. The communication was excellent and I noticed results within one week of training with my dog Leo. The training is easy to learn and the group classes help my dog learn at a faster pace with the distraction of other dogs. I found that in targeting my dog's intelligence we have a stronger connection and we can both help each other. Robin has been amazing also, as have the other trainers! Thank you Sit Means Sit!

Christina came to our house twice a day to care for our three dogs. She by far exceeded my expectations! One of our older dogs can be grumpy and instead of saying "no, thank you," she made practice visits and spent extra time making him comfortable. It only took a day for him to come around and he quickly became excited to see her each visit. She also didn't just do the chores of pet sitting (feeding, let them out and refill water); she spent time each visit to love on them, took them on walks (or let them take her on walks, really), gave them treats, switched which lights were on each night and even cleaned our house before we came home! I can't recommend her enough!!

They take a genuine interest in the health and happiness of our dogs. They truly care about them and how they interact with us in our personal situation. We have had three dogs trained by them and all three have come home as pets adaptable to nearly any type of situation. We have also been thoroughly pleased with their grooming services. Our dogs come back to us as “show” quality and we have personally witnessed the effort they take to achieve this result.

Stephanie is a wonderful person in general; and a great dog groomer! I took my Mother's dog Sadie to get her groomed by Stephanie; Sadie was perfectly groomed, and smelled lovely when I picked her up! I will definitely be taking Sadie back to K-9 kiddos in the future! I recommend K-9 kiddos to anyone living in the Lorena area!

I have used Claudia on a few occasions to pet sit our 3 dogs. I have been extremely happy with her services. My pets are always happy and well taken care of by Claudia. I enjoy getting text messages from her to keep updated on our pets. Last year we had plans to go out of town for Christmas. It is a very busy time of year so I booked Claudia about a year in advance. She takes good care of the home and plants as well. I like having someone stay at the house especially during the holidays and I don't have to stop the mail delivery. She is honest and trustworthy. She arrives on time. I highly recommend Claudia for house/pet sitting.

I work with the dog owner and his/her dog to learn basic commands like sit, stay, come, down, heal, off, place, etc.

I have 25 acres of rolling hills that animals get to enjoy! If your animal is coming to stay with me for a mini vacation, I have two large areas that are fenced off for their protection. I work from my home as a Healthcare Recruiter, therefore it gives me extra time to put any play and socialize with the animals. I have horses and three dogs. I would have to say, they are all spoiled rotten, but that is okay. My children have grown up and moved on with their lives. Obviously, my animals have become my children and I always take the extra time and effort to care for your animal just like my own!

I train young puppies and adolescent dogs in obedience commands, and the owners to continue training when they are alone with their pets.

We specialize in dog boarding, training, and full-service grooming. Our boarding facility consists of 64 indoor/outdoor runs, and the inside is climate-controlled. We have a 3200-square foot training center and 2 certified dog trainers on site.

I can take care of your dog while you are out of town with no worries. I love dogs! Please trust me to take care of your little four-legged family members.

For the Family 4-legged friend it is essential to evaluate the dog behavior in conjunction with the animal's environment and the realistic expectations of the owner/owners. Guard/K-9 training requires a different evaluation, as does guide or search/rescue training. In addition to training I also am intimately involved in rescue work in more than one country. I also work with wolf and wolf hybrid species. My first pet was an alligator that was to be put down (rescued & still living) and 4 White Shepherds. I use non GMO treats/food .I provide a thorough evaluation for free and should any behavioral difficulties appear in the future will re-educate at no charge. My primary focus is to unite in harmony our furry friends with our life style. Since I recently arrived on this site I am still in the midst of completing a more comprehensive profile. I also provide massage therapy. As the saying goes "if you love your job you will never work a day in your life". When I see the relief and subsequent happiness in an owner's eyes, it makes my day because I know that their furry friend and owner are now secure in their relationship.

I help you understand your canine companion so that you have long and happy life together. I offer dog obedience training at your home so that you don't have to try to train your dog with other distractions that can occur with big classes. I work with you and your dog one on one in order to maximize the training time.

I have bred and trained horses and dogs for over 25 years. I am semi-retired, but I still need to work. I would love to work in a kennel or do stable cleaning and exercising and grooming your loved ones (dogs or horses) as needed.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How old should a puppy be for training?

Dog training shouldn’t wait until you’re having behavior problems. If you get a new puppy, start from the beginning with professional training to give both you and your puppy the tools you need for a healthy relationship. Dog training is as much about teaching the owner how to interact with their new dog as it is about the dog learning to behave. Puppy training can start as early as eight weeks old. Trainers who offer puppy training programs may works specifically with dogs between the ages of 8 and 18 weeks old. Trainers can teach owners about potty training and how to deal with accidents, working with separation anxiety, and training your pooch out of destructive behaviors like chewing, biting and demand barking. Puppies will start to learn to walk on-leash and other basic skills.

In addition to behavior training, socializing your puppy is an important part of dog training. Socializing your dog means they become comfortable and confident in a variety of settings and have a great foundation for becoming a well-adjusted adult dog. After your puppy has had the proper vaccinations, you can start to introduce it to a variety of different dogs and people in safe settings.

Which dog training method is best?

The best type of dog training for both you and your dog depends on the outcomes you hope to achieve. If you want your dog to learn agility training, go to someone who specializes in those techniques. Regardless of whether you want your dog to learn basic behavior or competitive-level tricks, the majority of dog training is actually about training the owner how to communicate with their dog. Most professional dog trainers agree that a model of training based on positive reinforcement breeds a happy, healthy, well-adjusted dog. The alternative to positive reinforcement training is using force or aggression techniques like physical punishment or shock-collar training to get the dog to do (or not do) a behavior. While the dog may learn how to behavior as you direct, it is also learning to communicate with force and aggression, and will in turn use those behaviors on other dogs (or people) that are smaller or weaker than it is. Before signing up with a dog trainer, meet with the trainer and ask for references. Watch the trainer interact with your dog, and make sure they treat your dog with patience and firm kindness. Ask them questions about their training methods:

  • What type of training methods do you use?
  • What is your background and training, and how did you become a dog trainer?
  • How long do you expect that we will work together before we achieve the results I’m after?

How long does it take to train a puppy?

Dog training depends on the dog and how much homework the dog owner is willing to put in. Puppy training is similar to dog training in that the onus of the work depends on the owner learning new ways to interact with their dog. For a quick crash course, you can opt for a single, two hour smart-start puppy training consultation to teach you the ins and outs of being a new dog parent. You can learn how to manage potty training and what to do if the puppy experiences separation anxiety. As long as you’re willing to work on dog training a little bit each day, your puppy will quickly learn these new behaviors. If you’re not confident about training your puppy yourself, you can enroll in a 6- to 8-week puppy training course, with weekly lessons touching on everything from bite control to obedience. Puppies usually need to be at least three months old for group training classes. If you want more intensive one-on-one work, you can opt for private lessons. Some behavior problems can be resolved in one session if the dog owner learns and can implement new skills. In the case of more serious issues, 3 to 10 private sessions can typically correct challenges.
