What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Yes I do. The makeup world is forever changing, developing and evolving as time goes on so that means for us makeup artists there is always something new to learn! I try my best to continuously learn the new upcoming makeup styles that way I can be ready for anything the client desires.
How did you get started doing this type of work?
When I was in high school I was always the girl going to school with loud colors on my eyes. I was always experimenting on myself and my younger sister with different makeup techniques, eventually my fellow school mates started asking me to do their makeup for prom, homecoming and school pictures. It was then that I realized that I could do makeup not just as a hobby but as a career. Once I graduated high school, I found a school that specialized in teaching makeup artistry and haven't stopped doing makeup since.
What types of customers have you worked with?
Most of the makeup work I do is for photo shoots and bridal parties. Photo shoots can range from natural makeup to high fashion dramatic makeup all the way up to artistic looks. Bridal parties usually desire more of a natural look for their special day but that doesn't stop some from wanting that bright pop of red on their lips. Everyone is different and I can customize your look to whatever your heart desires!
What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
My advice is to take your time finding the right makeup artist for you. You want to make sure to do your research.Try to see if you can find any reviews or testimonies from others who have worked with the artist, or you can even ask others what they thought about the artist if you know anyone that has worked with him/her. If you cant find any reviews or testimonies try looking them up on social media such as Facebook, Instagram or Model Mayhem. You might find someone you can ask on one of those sites about the artist. Were they on time to the event? Were they professional? And did they use appropriate sanitation practices? These are all great things to know about an artist before you make your decision to hire them.
What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?
Makeup artistry is a form of art itself. There are so many different things in the makeup industry that are constantly evolving and changing that we as makeup artists are constantly learning in order to keep up with what is "in". With that being said, there are endless possibilities as to what we can create and that is what makes it so much fun!
