Introduction: I put my heart and soul into everything I produce, as if I were designing a space of my very own. Several years ago, I had a vision for my daughter's room. When I was given the opportunity to design a little girl's bedroom for a client, I was able to see the vision come to life! What I didn't realize was... the entire time I was conceptualizing the idea, it was intended for a special client. Seeing a client's face, as they begin to see their own creativity, ideas, and vision come to life, is the best reward. I think we all have an inner artist; sometimes we just need someone to help wake it up.

Wow! I was blessed, no, fortunate enough that Meggan Jordan-Johnson came to my market on a family trip in the Summer of 2013. I'm a realtor, & I had a good listing in a good area, but it was a short sale & a bit dated on the interior. Mid-transaction the bank holding the sellers loan, sold it to another bank, forcing us to start the process all the way over. The buyer was devastated, already fed-up from the long wait & expressed a desire to move on. It turns out that during the long wait, the buyer had disassociated herself from the property, & now wanted to go see properties that might not only close sooner, but that had a more modern look & feel, more akin to her tastes. That was until fate slipped my way. A colleague shared with me the great experience she had with a designer she had worked with in Atlanta, & told me that she just happened to be in Bowie, MD visiting family. Things fell in place, & I was able to sit down with Meggan Jordan-Johnson, vision extraordinaire to talk about what she would do with the property if she had the opportunity. I was blown away. Her ability to pull things together from different places & to help us visualize it was simply amazing. Not only did the buyer change her tune, but she fell in love with the property all over again & opted to go with one of the theme's & layouts that Meggan suggested. In the end, what seemed lost, was saved. My deal closed successfully & I simply couldn't have done it without Meggan! I wish she was in my market permanently. To those of you with local access, take advantage of her while you have her! She has a wonderfully creative mind, her service is superb, & to top it all off, you can tell she loves what she's doing. She's more than worth the money!

Meggan helped us with our daughter's nursery. She was so creative and passionate. We truly enjoyed working with her and the entire process. We absolutely love the design and how she knew exactly what we wanted. The nursery is absolutely beautiful. Meggan is an amazing professional with great taste. We will be hiring her for our formal living room. We are super excited!

Meggan was wonderful to work with. If she made an appointment, she kept it and was on time. She did everything she said she was going to do, and it was obvious to me that she worked hard to make sure each room turned out well. I told her that I did not care what decorator style she used because I felt my personal taste was not important. I just wanted the house to look nice, but depersonalized so that a potential buyer could see herself and her family living in the house. AND, because I have been in the middle of several important and time-sensitive projects, I asked Meggan to complete the staging with as little work on my part as possible. I gave her the key and left her to it. I was happy with the result. She used just enough furniture and decorative touches to suggest the scale of the rooms and how they might be furnished. She was able to incorporate a few of my own small pieces that I'd temporarily left behind for the purpose of staging. I was impressed that her staged version of our master bath was almost nicer than my own design when we'd lived there. In the master bedroom, she hung a beautiful painting from her personal collection that I later learned she done herself. I almost asked if she'd be willing to sell it to me. I don't know if this is something that she does, but I could see her putting her staging talent to work doing home decor for clients. Meggan was honest, dependable and professional throughout the process. She's well-organized, detail-oriented and energetic. I understand from her that she has a degree in fine arts, which explains her eye for color and design. Her prices were reasonable for the amount of work involved. I'd recommend Meggan to anyone who wants to avoid an empty house during the time it is on the market and to anyone who wants a faster turn-around and higher price on a sale.

FAQs

  • What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

Fine Arts Degree from Syracuse University with a concentration in design and textiles.

  • How did you get started doing this type of work?

I realized I had a gift for art at an early age. I began drawing as a young girl, and realized I had an eye for color and detail. I would create outfiits, various projects for school (including costumes and sets for plays), displays, even home-made greeting cards. I just loved art, and the ability it gave me to express myself creatively. I received an art scholarship to college, and entered Syracuse University's College for Visual and Performing Arts. It was there, I was able to hone in on one area of design, and it was interiors! I began designing textiles... wallpaper, bedding, and other interior surfaces. That quickly evolved into an instant love affair with interior design.

  • What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

I always tell clients, to be sure there is a connection between you and the designer that you are selecting. We have the privilege of working in your intimate and personal space. The energy should effortlessly flow, in order to produce the best space possible.
