I am amending my review as Lucas Rock, the owner, contacted me to apologize for what happened and also refunded the $500 that I was charged for lost time. We chatted for about 30 minutes and I believe he was sincere in saying that is not the way business is done at his company. He actually drove to my house to give me my refund check. That made me feel like my business mattered to him and that things that went wrong were not all my fault. I was never unhappy with the actual work that was done as the paint job was good.Prior Review: David Turk of Rock Painting gave me an estimate of $2,765 to repair trim around my two dormer windows and paint most of trim on my brick house. (I had two sections painted the year before by someone else.). I clearly told him I had to keep the same two trim colors as the HOA required it. I had matched the one trim color previously; however, I had a large section of Hardy Board siding in a different color. I had no sample of this paint, just a name (Sand Storm) in the homeowners book received from the builder which I gave to David. (This was a Monarch paint and I later learned this company had.been acquired by PPG and paint names were not reliable.) David called me to see if they could move the start date up 3 days. I told him I had an appt I had to keep on that date. He said it would not be a problem because all they would do on the first day was the carpentry repair and prep work. He also said he had been able to find the siding paint.Imagine my surprise to find out on the afternoon of the first day that they had painted all of the Hardy Board in a color that clearly did not match the prior color. To my horror, it was a light pink color. It was named Sandstorm, one word. I called David and he said he would be over the next morning. When he showed up, he was clearly defensive and said I had given them the name and thats what they went with. I asked why the painters had not noticed the color was way off. He said colors fade and they cant match them. I pointed out that the color of the paint they were applying was lighter than the supposedly faded paint.I had some card paint samples that we looked at and we found one that he said he was pretty sure was it. I told him I wanted to talk to my neighbor that evening and get the name of their paint color. However, he pressured me by saying they had to finish that day because they had another job the next day. So I let him bully me into making a selection and he proceeded to go out and buy another 4 gallons of paint. HOWEVER, THEY DID NOT PAINT THE SIDING THAT DAY. So I could have gone and gotten a sample and talked to my neighbor!Of course, when the painters started painting the next morning, I could see right away the second color was wrong also. So I just had to call a halt and take the time needed to make the right selection. This I did with absolutely no help from Rock Painting.After I selected the color, they returned and finished. They carried all the wrong paint away and did not charge me for it. However, I was required to pay an additional $500 for labor.Also, afterwards my neighbor pointed out to me that the painters had not done the trim around the chimney and there appeared to be a rotten board there as well. I called David Turk and at first he said they would not do anything further. However, he did agree finally to send out another contractor who agreed to do the work for an additional $500.I think all of this grief could have been prevented if David Turk, the project manager, had done his job. He should have verified that the siding color was a matchhe could have easily done this by getting a sample. He should have noticed the chimney needed to be repaired/painted. In these days when the workers are all contractors, the manager should assure everything is ready to go before they show up. Why should I have to eat the cost of the contractors time for something I dont think was my fault? I feel I was treated rudely and unfairly and definitely would not use this company again.
