Mario did an excellent job replacing a double paned frosted window in my shower. I have an older home, so repairs are not straight forward. He clearly has experience with windows. The price was also very reasonable.

They were available when Home Depot couldn't get to it for several weeks. They did an excellent job installing ceramic tile in my upstairs bathroom. They did less than perfect with the cove base. I would recommend them.

We hired Charles to install a marble backsplash after having to fire the tile installer who completed our bathroom. We were behind schedule and Charles happily accommodated us. He was so nice to work with and made great style suggestions. We also asked him to put a brick facade on the front of our cabinets and it looks amazing! Very professional and fairly priced. We will use Charles for our future tiling needs.

Not only did Edward do the carpet installation, he also installed the vinyl plank flooring in the entire house beating out other bids. After seeing his quality of work I asked if he could also paint the exterior of my house. He was very fair on the price and helped me out of a bind due to a time crunch. He kept me up to date on all the progress and my house sold in 36 hours thanks to him and his crew!! Highly recommend!

I also ask each contractor to provide phone number of references before I hire them and did this with David. The first lady I talked with was an elderly lady and she spoke so highly of David that I wanted to ask her to confirm she wasn't his grandmother! After hearing similar good things from others I hired David to do tile work for my bathroom and stone work for the shower. The quality of the work was superb. David is one of those guys who has great skill and the commitment to do the job right. Because I wasn't exactly sure how I wanted to finish the rock shower, David and I agreed on a hourly fee so I could make any changes as we went. I was very impressed when I saw on one invoice that he didn't charge me the whole time he was working one day because he felt like he had made a mistake that caused extra time and didn't feel that I should have to pay for him to fix it. Overall I was extremely pleased with his work. He does a great job and is honest in the process.

Chris Fischer was a pleasure to work with and I would use his services again in a heartbeat. I had several minor home repairs (oven, disposal, kitchen faucet, microwave) that he thoroughly diagnosed, explained the costs, how long it would take to order parts, and repair them. His rates are very reasonable and his quality & professionalism are second-to-none!

Joe arrived on time and immediately started to work - he caulked our shower tub and removed and replaced our kitchen faucet - both jobs were done with quality work and he cleaned up afterwards - he finished both jobs in less than the time quoted and I would definitely use him again.

Kelly Cobb is a great handyman / painter / remodel person. I hired him for a small job and kept him on to basically remodel the house and another investment property. Some jobs he did were: removal of popcorn ceiling, re texturing walls and paint after electrical work cut holes in drywall, bathroom tile - floor and tub, installing bathroom vanity, landscaping, kitchen remodel, exterior & interior paint on outside house etc. I would definitely recommend Kelly as he is a hard worker and can complete just about anything. I attached some pictures of just the kitchen remodel. I described some crazy things I wanted done such as the live edge bar and his idea for the stainless steel back splash, which he had the contacts for the custom slab (he sanded it, sealed and treated slab) and steel work. He also has other contacts if needed. Trustworthy, nice, fair prices and conscientious! If I ever need additional work or do a flip I am excited I know a contractor. When the job got really big I did use his recommended helpers. He also got along with the neighbors and some subsequently hired him after my job. Thanks Kelly!

Jesse and his team did a wonderful and quick job replacing my floor. He was very helpful in picking a matching floor to the existing floor on the second story of the house. They cleaned up after each days work, even wiping down the new floor. He was also very courteous of my schedule and was honest about when he would get the job done. The end result was better than I expected and I would recommend him for any home flooring install.

I hired Jesus to do the floor in my hallway, restrooms, Landry room, and kitchen! He did an amazing job!!! In between the job I decided to put in a backsplash!!! He did an awesome job!!! I cannot stress the politeness and enthusiasm he has for the job! Whatever you ask of him he will make happen! It was a two man team... he had another man, Santos, who is just as nice and helpful! Together they did a great job!

Install tile and grout backsplash in kitchen. They called before arriving. Arrived on time. Came ready to work. This former Marine and his fiancé were delightful, hard working and paid great attention to detail. Highly recommend this company for tile install and grouting. This company is fairly new but the experience and expertise is obvious. I will hire them next for carpentry work. The price was more than reasonable. The photo attached is just one small area of a larger job.

Fred demoed both tile and carpet and then installed a beautiful hardwood floor throughout 1500 sq. ft. The floor is everything we imagined. Fred is easy to work with. He is also willing to return if you find any finishing touches that were missed.

My wife and I remodeled our kitchen with granite countertops, and they also installed our tile back splash as well. They did an excellent job, I mean our kitchen actually looks like its a totally different. My wife an I are very pleased with the new look. Even our family and friends are shocked at how much of a difference it actually made. I was mostly at work when they where doing the work, but my wife said that they where very polite and courteous. They where also very informative so we never felt as if though we where left in the dark which I myself found very pleasing. I personally do not like having a big project being done in my house and not knowing if everything is going good an on schedule. These guys would touch base with us before they would leave for the day, what they needed to finish, made sure that throughout they whole process we where happy with how it was coming along or if there was something we wanted to change. For me personally, I was very pleased that once they where completely done with our kitchen they actually came and pressure washed our driveway!! Ej told us they came an took care of that because they had been making all there cutouts out there, and he wanted to make sure they had cleaned up all there mess. Plus it was there way of thanking us, for hiring them an allowing them to work on a big project. Now I don't know about anyone else, but I have never had anyone do any type of work for me and they ended up doing an extra job like that. Free of charge no less. Simply to say thanks for hiring us. I know having a driveway pressure washed runs about what, $50-$75 somewhere around there. I've got to admit it. That in itself was absolutely Above&Beyond in my book. I would definitely recommend these guys to my friends an family, or anyone else for that matter.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to get tiling done?

You can install tiling on your floors, walls, counters, kitchen backsplash, outdoor patio and shower — to name a few places. Tile is beautiful, easy to clean, durable, and resilient against kids and pets. The national average for tile installation cost ranges between $490 and $750. Often, tile installation specialists quote a price per square foot for installation. Costs can increase if you want the pro to supply the tile instead of ordering it yourself. Other factors that can increase cost include specialized installation with a unique design that will require more labor to install.

Prep work will also affect tile installation costs. Demolition of the existing floor, counter or backsplash takes time and energy that will be reflected in the price. Necessary repairs, such as a sub-floor that needs bolstering before tile flooring can be installed, will also increase costs. For tile showers, one example of tile installation cost may be approximately $25 per square foot including all materials and labor. Average tile installation costs for backsplashes may run anywhere from $10 to $40, depending on the materials selected and the amount of labor required. The larger the area where tile is being installed, the lower the price per square foot will likely be. For example, a flooring pro may charge approximately $3.50 per square foot for wood-look tile installation in an area ranging between 6 feet by 24 feet and 8 feet by 48 feet.

How much does it cost to tile a shower?

The cost of tiling a shower depends on two main factors: the size of the shower and the quality of the tiles. In general, most professional tilers charge an average of $25 per square foot of tiled area and the national average cost for a tile installation project is $490-$750. The tiles themselves are the greatest variable; the cost depends on their size, shape, pattern and manufacturer. For example, tile purchased at a volume discount from a big-box store cost far less than tiles made in small batches by an artisan ceramics shop. Prices can range from as little as $1 to $50 or more per square foot of tile. Other factors that will drive up the total tile installation cost are grout and mortar, speciality tiles like bullnose caps or soap holders, and surface prep materials, especially if drywall needs to be replaced before the tile can be installed. Many tile installers will also remove and haul away any old materials from an existing shower installation.

How much does it cost to tile a bathroom?

Tile installation costs are a key part of your bathroom remodel costs. The tile you select (which can range from under $2 per square foot to $50 per square foot or more), the demolition and repair work required prior to installation, and the size of the job will all affect cost. You can install tile in the shower, on the counters, on the wall or on the floor. The national average for tile installation cost ranges between $490 and $750. Bathroom tile is easy to clean and durable for daily life. Here are some examples of average bathroom tile installation costs:

  • Tile installation at $25 per square foot of tiled bathroom area.
    • A standard tub and shower combo requires tiles for approximately 60 inches of length. Calculate wall height and add 30 to 36 inches of tub width for the walls at the head and foot of the tub. If the tile walls are 6 feet to 8 feet high, in this example, the tile installation costs would run about $2,000. Price includes materials.
  • Tile installation on a 3-foot by 5-foot regular tub and shower walls with an 8-foot ceiling: $1,450. Price includes materials.
  • Tile installation on a 3-foot by 5-foot regular tub and shower walls with a 10-foot ceiling: $1,650. Price includes materials.

How much does it cost to install a ceramic tile floor?

Tile installation costs for ceramic floors depend on the type of tile you select. You can purchase tile that sells for under $2 per square foot or tile that costs $50 per square foot — or more for artisanal and hand-painted tiles. The cost of labor to install a tile floor will also depend on the tile you select. It is far less labor-intensive to install a white 12-inch by 12-inch square tile than a 2-inch by 2-inch hexagonal tile with a distinct pattern. That extra time and energy equates to a higher per-square-foot installation cost. For example, a flooring pro may charge approximately $3.50 per square foot for labor to install wood-look tile in an area ranging between 6 feet by 24 feet and 8 feet by 48 feet. That same pro may charge $6 or more per square foot for a more intricate pattern, or a smaller space. Some installers may charge a minimum day rate for ceramic tile floor installation, such as $340 minimum per day, to cover business expenses and employee wages. If you’re looking to reduce costs, removing your existing flooring and handling any repairs needed can help eliminate prep work costs. Prep work may be charged per hour and could cost anywhere from $25 to $80 per hour or more, depending on the region and the type of repair work necessary.

How much does it cost to install tiles in a kitchen?

One of the most common kitchen upgrades is installing decorative backsplash tiles in the space between the counters and cabinets. It’s a chance for homeowners to get creative while also protecting the kitchen walls from splashes and stains. Like all tiling projects, kitchen tile project costs depend on the tiles you choose, installation materials such as grout and mortar, and any surface materials, like replacement backer board. The national average for a tiled kitchen backsplash is $490-$750. In general, pricing averages $10-$40 per square foot for installation, not including tile. Some professional tile installers have a minimum day rate for small projects, which averages $350.
