The team that was sent out did a great job. Even with moving a lot of furniture up two flights of stairs, they managed to get the job done quicker than I had expected.

Extremely good service for a very economical price - they will make sure the work gets done in one day even if it means they have to make 2 trips. Good option for local moving. They don't cover your furniture with plastic wrap while moving though, so make sure you have wraps for expensive furniture with fabric for protection.

I am at awe with the amazing work Mr. Wayne brought to the table. I must admit (even if they won't), I believe I was a bit of a difficult customer, with an odd school schedule and only being able to message them in their off hours, they still found time to work with me. Moving from one 3rd floor to another 3rd floor there movers took better quality of my furniture than the movers the moved me to my first apartment. Thank you Mr. Wayne and the outstanding service you run!

2 of the 3 movers were excellent, the 3rd guy was lazy, complained about the stairs multiple times, and attempted to tell me his life story rather than move my son and daughter in laws furniture. Additionally, while moving one of the tv's, the lazy mover left the cord to the tv in the van and we had to order a new one on Amazon. I contacted Mombo, the main mover , he confirmed it was left in truck but never responded any further. Contact I had setting up appt with office personnel was excellent, making payment was easy, and I would recommend, just wish we would of had 3 great movers, it would had been less time overall.

Took great care in moving fragiles even though it added more time than expected. Originally quoted rate was upheld and we appreciated the extra effort and care to ensure not just the safety of our belongings but also to not scratch our walls and floors. Overall excellent service

The movers showed up on time, assessed what needed to be moved and got right to work. They were very friendly and professional. Loading took a little longer than I expected, especially considering I don't have a lot of furniture and I had moved 15-20 boxes the night before. Additionally, my one biggest complaint, and it's not really a "complaint", per se, but I thought they should've wrapped some of the furniture better, ie, the dresser and wooden bed frame were only wrapped in plastic, not with a blanket to prevent scratching. Same with the TV stand, which has glass on it, to protect against breaking. The dresser did get dinged, but honestly, it's an Ikea dresser and it was pretty minor in the grand scheme, so no worries. All of that said, as I mentioned, loading took a little longer than I expected, so wrapping the furniture better would've made the process even longer. Next was the 12 mile drive to the new location. I asked if they were able to take toll roads, because that is the fastest route by far, but they said no, which was not a big deal, except it took them almost 45 minutes to go on the surface streets. I took the same route they did and it took me 25 minutes (I understand my car goes a little faster than a truck, but 20 minutes extra is 2x as slow). Is this a big deal? Not really, because it was a short move. Had I been moving a farther distance, this might be a big deal in the time vs. money column. Lastly, the unloading went pretty smooth. The one negative was that they were not putting boxes in the rooms for which they were marked, but again, not a big deal. Overall, I was pleased with the work. Like I said, the guys were prompt, worked hard, and were very friendly, so it was a good experience and I'd recommend them.

I was looking for a handyman to help me move a 1 BR apt on Jul 28, 2018. Brady responded to my request with his quote. Then, I sent him pics of the furniture to moved, and a week before the move day, we talked over telephone. At that time, given his amazing reviews, he was first choice as a handyman to help me move. As the move day drew closer, for a couple of days, Brady stopped responding. This seemed to be strange as he had been very fast in responding to my text messages beforehand. So, I thought he was no longer interested and started looking for someone else. Then, a day before the move, he responded that he had been out of town. Given his amazing past reviews, as I needed a second handyman to help me move, I hired him as well. On the move day, he arrived on time and moved things cautiously yet efficiently. Regrettably, in our conversation, while he had indicated he had a moving Dolley and moving blankets, on the move day, he did not bring them. All the same, throughout the move, our interactions were pleasant and very friendly. Overall, I appreciated his work ethic and punctuality. Had Brady not have stopped responding to the texts while traveling and brought the moving Dolley and moving blankets, I would have totally given him 5 stars. All the same, moving is always a stressful experience but I was glad to have Brady by my side.

Our moving experience with Uriel Movers was excellent. They arrived on time, actually too early [1 hr earlier than the scheduled time] but they agreed to wait for us at no charge and worked with us till we were all done which consist of moving across town, loading and unloading 100 or so moving boxes and dissemble and assemble furniture between 2 stories. Our 3-men crew did a great job! - Thank you!

Super nice people. I hired them to help load a u-haul as we were moving out of town. We should have had a slightly bigger truck but hard to know at the time. You always have more than you think you do. They did a great job getting as much stuff as possible into the truck. Only one negative and that is that they should have put sheets/blankets around the wood furniture (I did provide some). A few nicks and scratches but no major damage and so far I haven't found anything that was broken. They were very respectful of boxes I'd marked fragile which I greatly appreciated. I would hire again.

Excellent service from Betton Moving Co., Inc.!! I would recommend them to anyone needing any type of Moving Service. They are a full Moving Service company, but I hired them to move a console piano from one house to mine! The two men that arrived were very professional and got right to work loading. They took all the precautions to protect the finish and exterior while moving the piano and once it was loaded on the truck. Once we arrived at my house they unloaded with great care and placed the piano exactly where I wanted it! Again, I recommend Betton Moving Co., Inc. to anyone that needs a reliable, trustworthy, no price haggling, company to take the stress out of moving! Thank you Betton Moving Co., Inc.!!

I have seen the best and the worst in the moving business. After relocating 4 times in my life, my opinion is somewhat of an expertise. There are so many moving companies who do the job poorly. But there is one company who is at the other end of the spectrum. I have hired Pick Up Movers. They have always performed exceedingly well. I just want to say that I am vouching for the potency of this company and recommending everyone to hire this great moving service.

Great Nation Moving seems to be a pretty popular moving company, so I'd recommend calling as early as possible in order to get your desired move date. Setting up the move was very easy and GNM had no issues when we wanted to change our move to a later date. Our crew was scheduled to arrive between 8-9am on 6/20 and they showed up right around 8:30am. We had a four-man crew, all were super polite and were extremely helpful getting our place ready for the move (we were mostly packed, but due to some issues with our house we hadn't completely finished). They wrapped all of our furniture and helped us pack the last few things that we needed. I thought that they did a great job, especially considering the limited space in our town home. We also had some things at a storage unit and they took care of those things quickly and without complaints. All in all I was very pleased with the loading process. Unloading at our house they didn't have to navigate the maze that is my former town home had. They made a real effort to make sure that everything was unloaded in its proper place (not always as easy as it sounds when you don't even know where to place items yet). For all the issues that we've had getting set up in our new place, it was really nice to have something finally go really smoothly. We had a great experience with Great Nation Moving and we'd definitely hire them again. From start to finish it was a 5 day turn around to Minneapolis, MN.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What do moving companies do?

Moving companies provide a range of services to help you physically move out of one residence and move into a new place. But moving companies can do so much more than just haul your belongings across town in a truck. The national average for moving company prices ($250-$350 per hour) reflects the range of services provided. Here are examples of all the ways moving companies can help:

  • Packing: Moving companies can pack your belongings for you. They typically charge a flat rate for both the box and the labor to pack the box. The more time-consuming the belongings are to pack, the higher the cost per box. For example, books could be $5 per box, linens $10 per box, and fine china and glassware $18 per box.
  • Specialty moving: Safely move a baby grand piano, a oversize aquarium, or other specialty items with the help of pro movers.
  • Storage: Many moving companies can store your belongings while you wait for a new home to be remodeled or closing of your new home to be finalized. If you’re moving long-distance, they often provide short-term storage free for a specific length of time, and a set rate after that (such as $60 per square cubic foot of storage space used).
  • Long-distance moves: No need to rent a trailer and move your things; a long-distance moving company can haul your belongings across the country for you. Typically they charge by the cubic foot for moves, with prices based on your destination.
  • Unpacking: Moving companies can even unpack your belongings for you after they have moved them. This is not as common, and will definitely increase the price, but can be helpful if you’re not able to tackle this task yourself.

How much does a moving company charge per hour?

When you’re ready to make a major move, it’s time to research moving companies’ prices. A moving company may charge on average anywhere between $25 and $100 per hour, per worker, for moving services. The price will vary with regional labor rates, local cost to do business, and the level of service the movers are providing. Nationally, the average hourly rate for a moving company is $250-$350 per hour. This price includes a range of pricing, from all-in service with four or more movers on site to standard hourly rates for one or two movers. Other factors that affect moving companies’ prices are packing, stairs (or elevators), and distance. For a full-service move, you pay movers to pack your belongings for you. You may pay for the cost of the moving boxes and an hourly rate per worker, and there may be additional charges for packing fragile items. Stairs will also add to your moving prices. Lifting and carrying boxes and furniture up and down stairs takes more time and creates more physical labor for the workers. Moving companies may charge flat rates for flights of stairs, such as $50-$70 per flight. A moving company may also charge a one-time fee for moving things via elevator, such as $75-$100. If parking is not accessible in front of your home or apartment building, there may also be an additional fee for the added distance to carry your belongings to the truck.

How much does it cost for long-distance movers?

Long-distance movers transport your belongings across the country for you. No more renting a trailer and road-tripping from state to state with your entire house hitched to your bumper. Long-distance movers make the move happen so you can fly to your new home, suitcase in hand, and wait for your furniture to arrive. Nationally, the average price range for long-distance movers is $1,490-$2,230. The distance you are moving and the number of cubic feet the movers have to transport will both affect cost. Another factor in long-distance moving costs is whether you choose to pay for an exclusive move or a consolidated move.

In an exclusive move, which is more expensive, your belongings are the only cargo on the moving truck. The movers travel directly to your new house and deliver your belongings on a scheduled day. A consolidated move is more affordable because the movers transport your belongings along with those of other people, saving them time and gas — which means you save money. The downside is that your belongings typically arrive with a two-week delivery window rather than on a prescheduled day. Read reviews to make sure you can trust the company with your possessions to ensure a peaceful moving process.

How much does it cost to move a one-bedroom apartment across the country?

Professional movers can handle the hard work of moving your one-bedroom apartment across the country for you. You can determine what your move will cost by learning the rate your movers charge per cubic foot and how they factor distance into the total cost. Cross-country movers typically charge based on your belongings rather than apartment size because that determines how much work they will have to do. For example, a studio apartment that is crammed full of things will take more work and moving truck space than the contents of a three-bedroom apartment with very little furniture.

Cross-country movers may also have varying rates, depending on where in the country you are moving. For example, a company may charge $5 per cubic foot for consolidated moves along the East Coast and $6 per cubic foot for consolidated moves from the East Coast to the central states or the West Coast. A one-bedroom apartment costs approximately $1,500 to move across the country.

How much does it cost to move across the country?

The national average cost for hiring cross-country movers is $1,490-$2,220. A number of factors can affect the cost. One factor is the distance you want to move. For example, an East Coast-based moving company may charge $5 per cubic foot for consolidated moves along the East Coast and $6 per cubic foot for consolidated moves from the East Coast to the central states or the West Coast. Another factor is how many belongings you have. Most cross-country movers charge by the cubic foot.

The type of move you want is another consideration in cost. You can have your belongings moved exclusively and delivered on a set day, or you can opt for a consolidated move, which is less expensive. In a consolidated move your belongings are stored and transported with the goods of other customers who are moving to your general vicinity during the same general time frame as you. Your belongings should arrive within a one- to two-week window, rather than on a set day. If you want the cross-country movers to pack your belongings for you, the cost will also increase.
