Victor and crew did a great job on our concrete driveway. He was very quick to respond to my request. He was very professional and meticulous in his work. He wasn't the lowest bid I received but he was worth paying extra for. He and his crew arrived early on time and got the job done in one day. Don't waste your time on anyone else, Victor is your guy for concrete work!!

We had Guillaume do several projects around the hosue: recaulk a bathroom, fix several light fixtures, wash exterior windows, power wash our driveway and front walk-way. He did not do a good job. He did a GREAT job! I absolutely have him in my contacts. He was pleasant to work with, efficient, and added value more than we asked for. Good job, mon amie, we see you again, soon!

I would hire and recommend Manuel to anyone (residential or commercial) I know based on his skill, professionalism, and value. Manuel did an incredible job. He laid concrete for my driveway and was on time, professional, and was detailed oriented in finishing his job the right way. He respected what he was doing and his workmanship showed. Further, he was about the least expensive person that bid on the project from thumbtack and other resources. Manuel used to a project manager running crews for a large concrete company but left that job to start his own business. See the before and after photos below. Note: the concrete had not completely dried yet in this ‘complete’ photo, however, the concrete looks amazing and dried a lighter color.

I cannot say enough great things about this company. Scott is very personable and came over and gave me a super reasonable quote. His guys showed up exactly when they said they would and did exactly what they said they’d do. As a result we have a beautiful new driveway with an attention to detail and a little bit of a decorative flair. I love the work that Scott and his company did and will definitely refer them to others.

David and his crew did an awesome job on our driveway and sidewalk. His response time was great from start to finish. He bid the job last Saturday and everything is completed as of today (5 days later). They even did some extra work around the house and the pricing was very competitive. I would gladly recommend them for any concrete work. Thank you to the entire crew for all of the hard work.

Polo and his team were very communicative during the process, which I appreciated. They demo-ed and replaced my two car driveway in three days. They were delayed by daily rain. The driveway looks great and the price was competitive. Final clean-up was delayed, but when I asked, Polo immediately took care of it. We will use them again for other projects!

I had the pleasure of meeting Eric when he came to my house to look at a job. I had him look at a sidewalk and driveway I was looking to build. I was impressed by the knowledge that I received. He even managed to save me some money. While the project was being worked on he kept me updated with exactly what he was doing and what was going on. I would definitely recommend and already have recommended this company to others.

We had flagstone type pavers installed to replace crushed granite pathways and sitting areas. It was a tedious and time consuming job as it required cutting to fit pieces uniformly and level. The end result was wonderful.

When it came to selecting a pave stone for my back patio, Steve was very informative and easy to work with and showed me samples of pavers that would best fit my needs. The order came when he said it would and the product was top quality. I had a good stress free experience and plan to do more business with him in the future. Thanks Steve!

Skyler Design Build provide our home with the upmost respect and attention. Their true personal concern to address our needs lead to them being awarded two (2) more projects i.e., Kitchen re-model and Paver Sealant/Leveling. The individual’s on our project were nothing less than outstanding. They listen to what we wanted, provided it above our expectations and walked us through the process “no surprises”. My first call on any home project will too Skyler Design Build.

Jorge and his crew did a great job on putting in my concrete retaining wall. It was well engineered and nicely finished. The job sight was also cleaned up very well after the job was completed. They started on-time and finished on time. I couldn't ask for a better quality job or better service. Zercon's pricing was also very competitive. I highly recommend Zercon for any of your concrete (patio, driveway, walk way) or paving related needs.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How do you find a good concrete contractor?

Concrete contractors pave driveways, build foundations for homes, install retaining walls, create hardscaping for front and back yards, build concrete steps, and so much more. When searching for a driveway contractor, read reviews from previous customers and ask for referrals. Ask the contractor for photos of examples of their work that’s similar to what you want. Confirm they will get the proper permits so your driveway is up to code. Hiring a driveway contractor to install concrete can average $5-$6 per square foot, or more, depending on where you live, the slope and grade of the driveway site, and regional labor costs. For a new asphalt driveway, the cost could average from $3-5 per square foot. A standard concrete driveway of 500 square feet averaging $5-$6 per square foot would cost $2,500-$3,000 — so it pays to research someone who will do quality work. Excavation and grading work can increase your cost per square foot significantly. Ask whether the contractor provides a materials and labor warranty for their work. Some cracking of the concrete may occur as it settles, but you should talk with your contractor about any structural or aesthetic concerns you have. When hiring a concrete contractor, check out our tips for smart hiring on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to redo a concrete driveway?

Replacing or renovating a damaged or time-worn asphalt or concrete driveway can boost your curb appeal and add to your home value. If your concrete driveway is nearing 20 years or more, it may be wise to invest in an entirely new driveway, instead of redoing your current one. Asphalt driveways average 15-20 years of life, so if you start needing major repairs around the 15 year mark, weigh the pros and cons of repairing or replacing it. Request bids from two to three driveway contractors to determine pricing and project scope, and check out our tips for smart hiring on Thumbtack. Here are some examples of average costs:

    • The national average cost to hire a concrete specialist is $2,750, but that price can vary greatly depending on the work needed to repair and resurface your concrete driveway, the square footage of the project, current costs of concrete, and regional labor rates.
    • Driveway contractors average $2-$3 per square foot to smooth and resurface your asphalt driveway.
    • Resurfacing concrete driveways averages $3-$10 per square foot. Pricing can depend on repairs needed, project size and geographic location.
    • Nationally, the average cost for resurfacing a 500-square-foot driveway ranges from $2,000 to $5,000.
    • Sealant for a concrete drive can cost $20-$80 per gallon.
    • Sealant for an asphalt drive averages 25 cents per square foot.

    What do paving contractors do?

Paving contractors can be hired to install a concrete or asphalt driveway at your home, office or property. They can also repave an asphalt or concrete driveway that has been damaged by time, weather or heavy loads. When you are looking for a driveway contractor, request quotes from at least three professionals who are in good standing and have great customer reviews. They should do a site visit and write you a bid, detailing the work involved, materials needed, approximate length of the project and estimated cost.

The site for your new driveway will determine costs and the work required for your contractor. First, the ground must be excavated to lay a clear path. This means removing any trees, bushes and stumps. Next, the driveway contractor will grade the area, making a level surface for the concrete or asphalt. To ensure proper drainage, driveway contractors should install a sub-base of compacted gravel (or similar) 4 inches-8 inches deep, depending on your soil type. Then the concrete or asphalt may be poured and smoothed over the top. Your driveway contractor should recommend an appropriate sealant for your climate and advise you on curing time.
