Excellent! I asked for two movers and a truck for 2:00 PM. They arrived at 2:00, no delay. They were very professional and polite. A third mover joined the team after half an hour and more importantly they were load the truck very quick. I expected for at least 4 hours of work (their estimate email mentioned 5 hours) but they finished the job nicely in 3 hours and half. No scratch! So different from my previous experience with moving companies where they spend 6 hours for a really 3-4 hour work.

The movers, Reyes and Daniel were AMAZING. They were so fast, so professional, and made the experience fun. At one point I accidently packed my keys to my new apartment into a box which was loaded into the truck! They were so understanding and so nice about it! They even helped me look! I have never had a good experience with movers. I wouldn't recommend any other company. Use this company if you're looking for exceptional work at a ridiculously great price. For 4 hours of work I was charged what 3 other moving companies quotes me for 2 hours of work. Best moving company ever! So reliable! So awesome!

Due to my career, I have lived in many places in the United States with all the joys of moving and having to deal with the large coast to coast moving companies. I have never had a move in 20 years that did not consist of something lost and/or something damaged. I am not only pleased to say, but delighted to share, that all changed today! With my last minute decision to move locally, I contacted Castle Movers at the very last moment. I was pleasantly surprised to find their willingness to accommodate and with sufficient equipment and manpower on such short notice. The move went without a hitch and was performed by a level of courtesy and professionalism that I have never seen before on any move. Their level of professionalism was only matched by their level of efficiency. The men knew how to work hard, they knew how to work smart, and they completed the move 3-4 hours sooner than I would have thought possible. Once the move was completed, the crew foreman asked me to inspect each room with him, we completed the necessary paperwork very expeditiously, and when the crew left, each shook my hand and welcomed me to my new home. A truly enjoyable experience and a first of its kind for me! If I move a piece of furniture ever again, Castle Movers will be my first call!!

Other moving companies quoted lower but had so many additional fees that it would have been more expensive. Elite sent four guys and they were so efficient that we left our previous house in two hours after their arrival! After an hour drive we were unloaded in less than two hours! The whole day was five hours and we had damage, no problems and no surprises. While I hope we will not be moving any time soon if we do we'll use Elite. I've already recommended them to our RE Agent and to our friends who'll be moving soon! A big thanks to the guys and best of luck in the future. What a great outfit; what a great experience!

We had Ray , Casey and Chris come to help us live into our new home. We received a call 30 mins beforehand letting us know they were on their way. They were able to move everything in a timely manner. Large items were taken extra care and wrapping and we were happy with how they settled everything Into the new home where we asked them too! Would definitely this company when moving homes.

HIGHLY recommend to others. I've used a few moving companies now and I have to say this is one of the best ones I've hired thus far. They were very prompt, friendly and got the job done quickly. There was a very small ding on the furniture and they did tell me about it (didn't bother me at all) but I thought it was nice that they told me. Would highly recommend to others!

This company was quick to respond and made it easy for me to hire them. My cross country moving company couldn't get the sofa thru the front door, scraped up an inner wall trying, then just left it on the outside landing at my apts! Youngstars Moving came to the rescue and had it inside in just under 5 min.

Highly highly recommend Smith’s Moving & Delivery. Both LaDavious and Terrance were professional, kind and efficient. I have moved 11 times over the past 5 years and these are BY FAR the most excellent movers I have ever had the pleasure of an experience with. Nothing was broken, messed up or even scratched. They got all of my large furniture pieces and about 15 heavy big boxes down 6 floors at one apartment and up 8 floors at another with no trouble whatsoever and they never once complained or refused to move anything (which believe it or not has happened multiple times with other moving companies). As long as they are around, they are who will be moving me in the DFW area. Use them, you will not regret it!

I have had my fair share of horrible moving experiences and expected nothing less than that when I hired Big Tex Movers to move me from Burleson to downtown Dallas TX. Imagine how pleasantly surprised I was from the moment I started speaking with the owner, Andy, via Thumbtack. He was extremely professional, pleasant, and straight forward. It seemed too good to be true! Then when my movers arrived, I met Patrick and Christopher and they did an amazing job! They were hustling the entire time. Running from the truck to the pick up, never stopping, never sluggish. They were well groomed, polite and very kind. They took extra care of my belongings, like they belonged to them. These hard working gentleman did this for 5 hours straight! None of my furniture or belongings were damaged and there were no hidden fees. What I was quoted by Andy was exactly what I paid. They charged by the minute! That is unheard of in their industry. I highly recommend this moving company if you're in need of an honest, hard-working moving company. I will definitely use them again and recommend them to everyone in the Dallas area. Thank you so much Andy, Patrick and Christopher!!! Y'all made my move so easy! A++++++++++++++++++

Brian was amazing. We really appreciate everything that he did. He helped us get packed and was able to move our stuff from Dallas to Missouri within 1 day which was really helpful. With most moving companies your stuff gets batched together with other clients moving in the same direction. Brian kept us updated about where he was at and if he was running behind he would let us know.

My goal was to move furniture from one storage facility to another residential location. Oasis showed up on time and picked up the furniture promptly. They did not however move the furniture to the exact spot I wanted as it didn't fit through the door. They don't disassemble anything and kept saying they had to leave so I didn't get one key furniture in its spot. They should have told me they don't disassemble anything up front, as other moving companies have offered that without me asking. I had filled out thumbtack stating I needed things moved upstairs and when I asked to move something upstairs to oasis they said that wasn't on the invoice. I never got an invoice so I didn't know what they were taking about, and I would not have gone with them if I knew they didn't want to move things upstairs. They reluctantly moved the furniture upstairs after I prompted them to. I tried to get them to wait as I would disassemble the furniture and then they would move it, as it would have only taken around twenty minutes to disassemble. They would have gotten paid more if they waited but they said they needed to leave so now I'm stuck with heavy furniture in a location I can't move. My advice to consumers who choose oasis: push for the invoice and be clear on what you want done in your chat and make sure the company and you sign off on some sort of documentation. Oasis also tried to charge me a service fee for gas, and I specifically asked them up front if they had service fees (which they said no). I went with them because they had good reviews and didn't have any hidden fees (or so I thought). All in all I'm not the happiest consumer right now.

They responded by phone quickly, provided a quote and were easy to contact. The only issue was that they were delayed both in pickup and delivery by truck issues. We had flexibility so it did not create any time issues on our part.

Professionalism is something most business people lack. The moving companies are not any different. I was so glad to see that one company actually is super efficient. I hired Pick Up Movers to move my belongings. They sent over 4 movers who were on time and got to work immediately. I had a lot of stuffs. But the movers didn’t complain about a thing. They put their heads down and packed for hours. It took them 3 hours to pack and load everything from a 2 bedroom house. The best thing about the movers was that they were so hard working and very skilled. I am thoroughly impressed seeing their professionalism. Highly recommended.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What do moving companies do?

Moving companies provide a range of services to help you physically move out of one residence and move into a new place. But moving companies can do so much more than just haul your belongings across town in a truck. The national average for moving company prices ($250-$350 per hour) reflects the range of services provided. Here are examples of all the ways moving companies can help:

  • Packing: Moving companies can pack your belongings for you. They typically charge a flat rate for both the box and the labor to pack the box. The more time-consuming the belongings are to pack, the higher the cost per box. For example, books could be $5 per box, linens $10 per box, and fine china and glassware $18 per box.
  • Specialty moving: Safely move a baby grand piano, a oversize aquarium, or other specialty items with the help of pro movers.
  • Storage: Many moving companies can store your belongings while you wait for a new home to be remodeled or closing of your new home to be finalized. If you’re moving long-distance, they often provide short-term storage free for a specific length of time, and a set rate after that (such as $60 per square cubic foot of storage space used).
  • Long-distance moves: No need to rent a trailer and move your things; a long-distance moving company can haul your belongings across the country for you. Typically they charge by the cubic foot for moves, with prices based on your destination.
  • Unpacking: Moving companies can even unpack your belongings for you after they have moved them. This is not as common, and will definitely increase the price, but can be helpful if you’re not able to tackle this task yourself.

How much does a moving company charge per hour?

When you’re ready to make a major move, it’s time to research moving companies’ prices. A moving company may charge on average anywhere between $25 and $100 per hour, per worker, for moving services. The price will vary with regional labor rates, local cost to do business, and the level of service the movers are providing. Nationally, the average hourly rate for a moving company is $250-$350 per hour. This price includes a range of pricing, from all-in service with four or more movers on site to standard hourly rates for one or two movers. Other factors that affect moving companies’ prices are packing, stairs (or elevators), and distance. For a full-service move, you pay movers to pack your belongings for you. You may pay for the cost of the moving boxes and an hourly rate per worker, and there may be additional charges for packing fragile items. Stairs will also add to your moving prices. Lifting and carrying boxes and furniture up and down stairs takes more time and creates more physical labor for the workers. Moving companies may charge flat rates for flights of stairs, such as $50-$70 per flight. A moving company may also charge a one-time fee for moving things via elevator, such as $75-$100. If parking is not accessible in front of your home or apartment building, there may also be an additional fee for the added distance to carry your belongings to the truck.

How much does it cost for long-distance movers?

Long-distance movers transport your belongings across the country for you. No more renting a trailer and road-tripping from state to state with your entire house hitched to your bumper. Long-distance movers make the move happen so you can fly to your new home, suitcase in hand, and wait for your furniture to arrive. Nationally, the average price range for long-distance movers is $1,490-$2,230. The distance you are moving and the number of cubic feet the movers have to transport will both affect cost. Another factor in long-distance moving costs is whether you choose to pay for an exclusive move or a consolidated move.

In an exclusive move, which is more expensive, your belongings are the only cargo on the moving truck. The movers travel directly to your new house and deliver your belongings on a scheduled day. A consolidated move is more affordable because the movers transport your belongings along with those of other people, saving them time and gas — which means you save money. The downside is that your belongings typically arrive with a two-week delivery window rather than on a prescheduled day. Read reviews to make sure you can trust the company with your possessions to ensure a peaceful moving process.

How much does it cost to move a one-bedroom apartment across the country?

Professional movers can handle the hard work of moving your one-bedroom apartment across the country for you. You can determine what your move will cost by learning the rate your movers charge per cubic foot and how they factor distance into the total cost. Cross-country movers typically charge based on your belongings rather than apartment size because that determines how much work they will have to do. For example, a studio apartment that is crammed full of things will take more work and moving truck space than the contents of a three-bedroom apartment with very little furniture.

Cross-country movers may also have varying rates, depending on where in the country you are moving. For example, a company may charge $5 per cubic foot for consolidated moves along the East Coast and $6 per cubic foot for consolidated moves from the East Coast to the central states or the West Coast. A one-bedroom apartment costs approximately $1,500 to move across the country.

How much does it cost to move across the country?

The national average cost for hiring cross-country movers is $1,490-$2,220. A number of factors can affect the cost. One factor is the distance you want to move. For example, an East Coast-based moving company may charge $5 per cubic foot for consolidated moves along the East Coast and $6 per cubic foot for consolidated moves from the East Coast to the central states or the West Coast. Another factor is how many belongings you have. Most cross-country movers charge by the cubic foot.

The type of move you want is another consideration in cost. You can have your belongings moved exclusively and delivered on a set day, or you can opt for a consolidated move, which is less expensive. In a consolidated move your belongings are stored and transported with the goods of other customers who are moving to your general vicinity during the same general time frame as you. Your belongings should arrive within a one- to two-week window, rather than on a set day. If you want the cross-country movers to pack your belongings for you, the cost will also increase.
