Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to fix a door?

On average, people pay around $233 to have their doors fixed. But you could pay more (or less) depending on the repairs that are needed. More extensive damage — like a door that’s been broken down — could raise the prices. To find out how much your repairs will cost, contact a door repair professional near you.

Can you fix a door that's been kicked in?

A door that has been kicked in can usually be repaired, but this type of repair is generally more expensive than standard repairs. The extent of damage is the largest driver of cost. The pro may need to replace the entire door, repaint or stain it, fix damaged locks and hardware, or even replace it entirely.

Consult with a door repair professional near you to find out if your door can be fixed or if it should be replaced.

How do you fix a broken door?

Doors have several moving parts and take a lot of wear and tear, so they can break in multiple ways. One of the most common types of breakage is broken hinges. Fixing this problem may involve using a chisel, glue and other specialty tools.

For any repairs you don’t feel comfortable doing yourself, hire a professional. A door repair service, contractor, carpenter or handyman may be able to fix your door issues.

Josh was very professional and provided me with a quote to repair rotted door casing. Josh went above and beyond to make sure the job was done correctly and did not over sell repairs to me. I will more than likely be using him when other repairs pop up.

The James's (2 of them) partially completed 2 out of 4 jobs I wanted to use them for. Had I paid closer attention to how James2 left my screen door I would not have allowed James1 to do my concrete job. James2 asked for paint for the screen door, which I gladly provided. He did not paint the door trim but rather left raw wood exposed. Tacky. James2 also left boards with nails, screws and sawdust on my patio furniture, floor and in my backyard which I had to clean up. The concrete job that James1 completed was not what I expected nor was it completed in the manner that he explained. After he completed his rendition of concrete repair he left all his trash materials (tube of sealant, huge box with old concrete shavings and dust and an empty bag of concrete in my 8 month old baby girl's room. I guess neither James has an affection for cleaning their work areas after them. Stupidly, I still wanted James1 or James2 really didn't matter to me, I just needed 2 small jobs done to which James1 promised he would complete on the upcoming Saturday morning. Saturday he was a no-show no-call. Sunday I called him and he said he would have James2 to call me back. No call until Tuesday only after he saw that I had found another contractor, on Thumbtack, to complete the last 2 projects. Never again. Next time I will read ALL the reviews.
