I'm thrilled with my experience. Bobby came out on my weird schedule to do a consultation, and he got me in quickly to finish the job. I had a tricky border to paint at the top of the wall that was not easy to do, and he did a great job covering a difficult color. I will definitely call him again for my next painting project. Thanks Bobby!

Okay so the job I asked for was admittedly simplified, but when Bill and Tony showed up they immediately sized up the job and began work immediately. They removed the existing cabinets and placed them in my garage for later use. Then they installed the new light fixtures, patched and painted the wall and installed the new cabinets. I was impressed at this point, but when the Master Electrician came to inspect the electrical work, I was amazed! My wife is so happy with the work that I have been given permission to hire Fixed again to install the old cabinets in my garage! Stay tuned, guys! And great touch with the door mat and shoe covers! That was the icing on the cake for my wife! Thank again!

It turned out the painting project I needed done was too expensive. Derek worked with me to do only the portions I couldn't do myself, and saved me considerable money. He prepped certain things that I could finish. In fact, we had a fairly large void in a piece of wood trim behind our water heater and I could not match the trim to replace it. Derek used ingenuity and was able to use one of my kid's toy clown noses to fill the void and fill it in with filler. I sanded it and it painted just fine. He's a nice guy and his painter works fast - doesn't have to mask (no drips).

I had a wonderful experience with Fina Ross. They did an awesome job with painting my bathtoom and did a few extra jobs around my house like fixed a broken kitchen drawer and glued back down a floor moulding that popped off a few months ago, Fina's also has a creative eye and provided valuable insights on futher jobs. The paint job was excellent and the workmanship as well as clean up met expectations. I would highly recommend Fina Ross Painting Service to anyone.Excellent job and again I would give a glowing recommendation.

Superior work done in a flash. Joe and his crew were professional and on time. They repaired and painted some superficial cracks in three rooms of my home. They have scaffolding and can match the paint for your interior.

Peter Park is a very capable contractor. Our job included sheet rock repair from water damage, painting the room, and repairing anything that was damaged by the leak of a water heater in our ceiling. Peter knew what he was doing. I even let him pick the color of paint for the bathroom. While he was working on that and waiting for things to dry, Peter helped with several other projects. One of our ceiling fans needed a new switch and several light fixtures needed new bulbs. They were located in very difficult locations. Peter also changed out an air conditioner filter. We recommend Peter Park Construction for any job. He researches the project and is very responsible. You can count on him to get the job done.

Johnny and his crew did amazing work at a great price. Hired for exterior and interior painting. They had a very high attention to detail and noticed some things I hadn’t and worked with me to make sure they were included in the job within my budget. They went above and beyond, making sure to remove shelves to paint inside closets and didn’t get any paint on the cabinet hardware. Very impressed. I will definitely hire them again for painting, and possibly tile or floor work as well.

Had a very good experience with Jose. He communicated well, was priced fairy, and did a thorough job painting a few rooms on very short notice. Even painted one room twice because he wasn’t satisfied with only 1 coat. After drying the walls looked excellent! Will hire him again.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much do painters cost?

The national average cost for an interior painter ranges between $450 and $900. Interior painters can tackle everything from complete color makeovers in each of your rooms to touching up an accent wall to painting pieces of furniture. The square footage and complexity of the project, along with the materials needed, are the main factors that will affect cost. Other factors include whether you supply the paint yourself or want the painter to do so, whether you move the furniture and do the prep work or ask them to do it, and whether any repair work is needed on the walls. Painting the ceiling and the trim will also have an effect on cost. The type of paint you choose can also raise or lower your house painting cost. A gallon of paint may range from $20 to over $100, depending on quality and brand. Ask your painter if they charge per hour or per square foot, and how much you can save by doing prep work (moving furniture, etc.) yourself.

How much does it cost to paint the interior of a house?

Interior house painting costs are calculated on a few key factors. Nationally, interior house painting projects range from $200 to $2,500. The wide price range indicates how much square footage, paint selection and labor can affect cost. One pro uses a laser to measure each room, subtracting the size of the doors and windows, and then bases the quote on the square footage of the actual surfaces to be painted. Painters may provide you with savings if you opt to paint your entire home rather than just having one room or an accent wall painted. For example, the average house painting cost for an 8x12 room with 8-foot ceilings is roughly $200, when contractor-grade paint is used. Painting ceilings, baseboards and frames can also affect cost. Pros may charge per linear foot to smooth and paint baseboards. In one area pros might charge 50 cents per linear foot to paint baseboards, while pros in another part of the country could charge $1.50 per linear foot for the same task. Painters may charge flat rates for painting door and window frames, with one charging $20-$25 and another $60 per door. Geography and regional costs to do business play a major role in the cost of interior painting. The same painter in a rural region has less to pay in taxes, transportation, insurance and overhead than they would in a major city like New York.

How much does a painter charge per room?

The cost to paint a room will vary based on the size of the room, the type of paint you select, any ceiling or trim work needed, and any repairs needed. If no repairs or other additional work is needed, painting a room with contractor-grade paint could range from $1 to $2 per square foot, including materials. Selecting a luxury paint (some cost more than $100 per gallon) will certainly increase your house painting costs. Here are some additional examples of average house painting costs, per room:

  • 12x12 room with a 9-foot ceiling: about $125
  • 12x12 room with an 8-foot ceiling: about $100
  • 14x16 master bedroom with a 9-foot ceiling: about $150
  • 14x16 master bedroom with an 8-foot ceiling: about $125
  • 16x16 living room with a 9-foot ceiling: about $175
  • 16x16 living room with a 20-foot ceiling: starting at $225
