Hiring WM Pro Movers was a great experience. These guys are on top of it; from rapid communication about my needs leading up to the move to extra flexibility when I needed them to make an extra stop last minute, everything ran smoothly and on time. Also, most movers use blankets, and so did these guys, but I'd never had a team pay such close attention to all my furniture. They wrapped just about every single item and all my antique wood furniture arrived without a single scratch. I'd highly recommend them!

I looked into probably 10 movers and this one was cloest to me and had the best price. I was expecting a hidden fee or milage, etc. Nothing! While other companies were wanting added on costs beyond the per hour quote, this company was upfront and included tax. It was storming and the 2 guys that came out were happy, fast, and never stopped moving! My friend was moving the same day and the company she went with said they were late, they even charged her for an extra hour which was spent setting up their music at each location. They also added the cost for mileage and such. In spite of the heavy rain, these guys wrapped, disassembled, moved, unpacked and reassembled my furniture. The only cons is they forgot 1 screw on my desk, there was a line of damage on my entertainment center where something got whacked and the fake wood backing on my desk hutch (same cheap backing you see on bookcases), was torn in one corner. Given that this backing hangs over awkwardly, I cannot really hold it against them. Plus is it in the back, so with my organizer box, no one sees it. All in all, these guys did a great job. Even rounded down to the nearest hour. Will for sure be using them again next time and recommending them to everyone.

Amazing cross-country moving experience from a true professional. I relocated from Austin, TX, to Boston, MA, and Alix and his Team were a pleasure to work with. Fast, punctual and caring. They are outstanding and I highly recommend them.

1Source Moving is a fantastic company. They moved us cross-country and then did another smaller move for us in Austin. They were punctual, professional, and friendly. The movers were experienced and carefully loaded and unloaded our belongings. They were flexible and worked to accommodate our schedule and needs. We feel we got great value for both moves. I highly recommend Andy and his company as great movers that matched every quality we would ever look for in a mover.

The movers were on time and got the job done in exactly 2 hours, which is what I was hoping for. They were pretty careful with my furniture but I would have liked to see them wrap the dresser to protect the drawers and corners and secure the pieces more carefully in the truck. Everything turned out fine, they got the job done but I didn't think anything went above and beyond.

Moving is consistently among the most stressful events we engage in. Having personable, patient and professional movers is the only way to curb the stress and manage the unforeseen (while maintaining your sanity). I was a little nervous because this was my first "Miura" move... but they definitely did not disappoint... I encountered a few major glitches during my move, and these guys hung in there with me until the job was done. They're customer-"centric" and my new favorite moving company. Superb job guys!

I hired Clydesdale Movers to handle my move from San Antonio to the Houston area. The team arrived on time (actually a few minutes early) and had everything loaded and ready to go within about 3 hours. They arrived at the destination before I did and had everything unloaded into the house and garage. I was able to handle payment over the phone with a credit card. They were careful with moving and loading everything. Nothing was damaged or missing when I arrived. I was especially pleased with their service since I only had a week to find a moving company, get packed and move out. And it was a holiday weekend when I moved. I would certainly hire Clydesdale Movers again and would highly recommend them to anyone looking for a great moving company.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost for long-distance movers?

Long-distance movers transport your belongings across the country for you. No more renting a trailer and road-tripping from state to state with your entire house hitched to your bumper. Long-distance movers make the move happen so you can fly to your new home, suitcase in hand, and wait for your furniture to arrive. Nationally, the average price range for long-distance movers is $1,490-$2,230. The distance you are moving and the number of cubic feet the movers have to transport will both affect cost. Another factor in long-distance moving costs is whether you choose to pay for an exclusive move or a consolidated move.

In an exclusive move, which is more expensive, your belongings are the only cargo on the moving truck. The movers travel directly to your new house and deliver your belongings on a scheduled day. A consolidated move is more affordable because the movers transport your belongings along with those of other people, saving them time and gas — which means you save money. The downside is that your belongings typically arrive with a two-week delivery window rather than on a prescheduled day. Read reviews to make sure you can trust the company with your possessions to ensure a peaceful moving process.

How much does it cost to move a one-bedroom apartment across the country?

Professional movers can handle the hard work of moving your one-bedroom apartment across the country for you. You can determine what your move will cost by learning the rate your movers charge per cubic foot and how they factor distance into the total cost. Cross-country movers typically charge based on your belongings rather than apartment size because that determines how much work they will have to do. For example, a studio apartment that is crammed full of things will take more work and moving truck space than the contents of a three-bedroom apartment with very little furniture.

Cross-country movers may also have varying rates, depending on where in the country you are moving. For example, a company may charge $5 per cubic foot for consolidated moves along the East Coast and $6 per cubic foot for consolidated moves from the East Coast to the central states or the West Coast. A one-bedroom apartment costs approximately $1,500 to move across the country.

How much does it cost to move across the country?

The national average cost for hiring cross-country movers is $1,490-$2,220. A number of factors can affect the cost. One factor is the distance you want to move. For example, an East Coast-based moving company may charge $5 per cubic foot for consolidated moves along the East Coast and $6 per cubic foot for consolidated moves from the East Coast to the central states or the West Coast. Another factor is how many belongings you have. Most cross-country movers charge by the cubic foot.

The type of move you want is another consideration in cost. You can have your belongings moved exclusively and delivered on a set day, or you can opt for a consolidated move, which is less expensive. In a consolidated move your belongings are stored and transported with the goods of other customers who are moving to your general vicinity during the same general time frame as you. Your belongings should arrive within a one- to two-week window, rather than on a set day. If you want the cross-country movers to pack your belongings for you, the cost will also increase.
