Introduction: I am affordable, I set no age limitations, and I give the customer what they want and/or what they need. Some students come in with an agenda or an assignment for their highschool band and some students just want to be able to play their favorite songs. If a student needs to learn to read for school, I teach them to read the traditional sheet music required to do so. For example, I may ask the student to bring the musical piece that they must learn to perform at an audition and teach them to read and play it. But, if a student comes in and just wants to learn a few chords, scales, and improv techniques, I will assign chord progressions and finger exercises to aid that desire. The process of learning has always intrigued my mind since I was a kid. Learning is a never ending sea of new information just waiting to be discovered. Being able to show someone how to do even just a little bit of what I love makes me feel useful, and the expression on a students face when all the pieces come together during that moment when they realize they have learned something new, is absolutely priceless.

My daughter has been taking guitar lessons for over a year and singing for the last 3 months with Paul. He is a amazing instructor. He is extremely down to earth and all around good guy! What I love about Paul is that he takes so much pride in his work! His prices are so reasonable and his schedule is always accommodating! He's the best!!

Paul has been teaching my son how to play guitar for almost 2 years and also has been teaching my daughter piano since last year at Ampus Rehearsal Studios. He is very professional and very knowledgable. I am impressed with the progress that both my children have made. Paul has a special way of capturing the attention of his students and makes learning very fun. My children look forward to his lessons every week. Paul's fees are so reasonable and he is very flexible in his scheduling of lessons that I even started my middle child with guitar lessons.

This guy is an awesome teacher ! I remeber when I first decided to take lessons I was nervous if the teacher would be intimidating, but then I heard about Paul Dattner ! I remeber when I first met him he was a really cool approachable guy . He is extremely easy and cool to get along with ! I always have conversations after lessons with him he is that cool of a guy! He is an excellent guitarist ! I honestly thought there was one type of genre of guitar we would be playing be but he has taught me a whole wide selection of music from classical to metal! He can teach you both accustic and electric! He as well has taught music theory and he has even begun to teach me to sing ! If you wanna take guitar as a hobby or wanna become a rock star , I definately suggest Paul Dattner , he does it all!!!!!

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I usually network online a lot to stay up to date on what music is out and ask my students what they are listening to. I research, adjust, and my methods evolve accordingly.
How did you get started doing this type of work?
Funny story: I used to be a martial artist in several styles of self defense, then went on the become a power lifter/body builder. When I injured my lower back while training at home to dead lift 365 lbs., five pounds less than my previous max at the time, weighing in at about 127 lbs. I had to stop for at least six months, according to the Doc. So, I had to find something else to do to pass the time, hence the reason why I picked up the guitar on April 1st, 2002 and never put it down.
What types of customers have you worked with?
Guitar lessons are what most people ask me for. Piano, vocal, and theory lessons are the other common things I teach, while throwing a little bit of science and physics in, just because I'm full of useless information. Ha! Ha!
