I can't even describe how happy I am with the dog sitting service that Christine provides. She is great with my dogs! They love her! And she goes above and beyond just pet sitting. She brings in the mail, brings the trash can up to the house, etc. If I could give her 6 stars, I would. I have had other sitters before, but there is no comparison. She is wonderful and if you're looking for anyone to take care of your animals, look no further. I strongly recommend you hire her.

Chantal has walked my three German Shorthaired Pointers on several occasions along with my Cockapoo. These dogs can be a handful because of their strength and energy levels. Chantal did a great job, the dogs enjoyed their walk and they came home TIRED and that is fabulous... It is hard to tire out a Pointer. I would recommend Emily's Dog Jogger to any dog or pet "parent". She is great with my dogs and I plan to use her in the future when I'm out of town and need a pet sitter! She's prompt, easy to reach via phone or text and she enjoys what she's doing!

Rosie is dedicated to ensuring the happiness, safety and well being of animals. Her selfless actions for fostering dogs in particular is truly admirable. She fostered my puppy before he came home to live with me and it was clear he was well taken care of, loved and trained! I highly recommend Rosie to work with any animal. I will be forever grateful to her for all her fostering of innocent homeless dogs.

Michele comes 3 times a week to walk my Great Dane puppy, Zeppelin. She sends me daily updates about their time together and even snaps a picture or two. He couldn't seem to smile any bigger and is worn out when she leaves! Zeppelin seems to have a great time. Michele is awesome!

Well, I can take care of them. I make sure they are fed, had a good walk and bath and got treats to eat. I love them the right way, and it has a cost if you work late.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to hire a house sitter?

House-sitting can be a lifesaver when you’re leaving town for any length of time. Whether you work remotely, you’re taking a much-needed vacation, or you just want to road-trip for a few days, it’s wise to have a pro keep an eye on your house and pets while you’re gone. Your home is more likely to stay safe and you won’t have to wrangle the kitty into a kennel to travel with you. The national average pet-sitting price ranges between $20 and $30. Pet-sitting and house-sitting costs will vary based on where you live in the country and regional labor rates. Another factor in cost is how long you want the house-sitter to stay. Some people prefer to have the house-sitter stay the night at their house, perhaps to care for an elderly pet or simply to keep a watchful eye on the home at all times. Overnight stays will cost more, ranging anywhere from $50 to $100, depending on services provided. For day visits, house-sitting and pet-sitting prices will increase incrementally the longer the visit and the more service you want performed. For example, a quick 10-minute visit to feed and walk the pet and bring in the mail could be $12.50, a 25-minute visit could be $18, a 40-minute visit $25, and a 50-minute visit $32. How much should you pay for a pet sitter?

Pet sitting provides your precious pet with in-home care. A pet-sitter can make a brief visit during the day to provide snacks, playtime or affection, or stay at your house for one or more nights to tend to your pet. Prices for pet-sitting will vary based on length of the visit. Nationally, pet sitting prices range from $20 to $30, although prices run higher for your sitter to stay the night. Prices will also be affected by where you live in the country. Here are some examples of average pet-sitting prices based on length of time and region:

    • 30-minute visit: $17 in a small Texas town.
    • 30-minute visit: $25 in Southern California.
      • 45-minute visit: $28.
      • 60-minute visit: $32.
    • Overnight stay (10 hours): $50 in Texas.
    • Overnight stay (10 hours): $85 in Southern California.
      • 12 hours: $100.
      • 24 hours: $200. This is a good option for a sick, elderly or brand-new pet that needs constant supervision.

Hi, I'm looking for a petsitter for 3 weeks for my dog and two cats while I'm on vacation. I am looking for someone who can stay 4 nights a week, visit at least twice during those days, and visit 3 times per day on the other 3 days of the week. The dog needs to go out every morning by 8a.m. The cats are indoor/outdoor and have their own entrance, but they need to come in around ten p.m. every night, so those would need to be visit times on non-overnight days. In addition, I need someone to water my garden 3 times per week unless it rains. It's pretty extensive and includes a greenhouse and some large trees. It would also be great if I could have a few personal errands taken care of if possible. I need my p.o. box checked once per week, as well as some grocery shopping upon my return and other errands that may come up during my absence. I'm not sure if this is possible or what additional rates may come up. My dog is a bully breed. She is great with humans, but DOES NOT get along well with other dogs and due to her strength it would be necessary to not have other dogs around during the stay. As well, I prefer not have any guests in my home during the stay. The sitter is free to enjoy the amenities of my home, I have a hot tub and steam shower, cable, nice televisions, plenty of room to relax and a large and lovely wooded yard. The dates are speculative right now, I will base my leave time on the availability of a sitter. Just checking rates right now, and finding out if it's even possible to find someone willing to do the extra things I need besides pet/house sitting. Please get in touch with me. Thanks, Amber
